TESS VALMORE

This was a huge PPV with 26 fights including two title fights. Can you believe there was not one, but two of those hated draws. In these days of extra rounds, draws are increasing unusual. Tractorpull used to be able to blame the judges for their inability to make up their minds, but no longer. Now you can blame a fighter for a fight that ends a draw.

BOWEN/ CLARKE I had no idea who these two were. I live in Nashville, you don’t really expect me to watch that program. It’s a story we know all to well here and done daily in this town. Don’t have HBO, so we have seen only one segment of “ Game Of Thrones” No matter. This fight was pretty one sided. Clarke came close to pitching a shutout, including flooring Bowen twice. Bowen nearly stopped a worn out Clarke in the tenth but didn’t and Clarke got a wide decision

LAW/ PATTON Bonzo trying to double up on Patton. First, Righetti, now Law. We expected a hard hitting fight, we just didn’t expect it to be a two section fight. Section 1. rounds one through seven. Law came out punching in the first round giving Patton a savage beating, which continued through round 7. Unfortunately Law made the same mistake the Clarke had in the previous fight. She had punched herself out. Patton took over and wrecked havoc on Law in the last three rounds. Patton needed a knockout and didn’t get it. Law by a wide decision

VAUGIER/ DE LA GARZA. These two put on a good close fight. Vaugier had a slight lead at the end of five. Alana forged ahead taking the sixth and seventh and ninth. Vaugier had a good tenth but it wasn’t enough and De La Garza got a one point decision

JOHNSON/ JONES. Jones looking for her first win in her second fight. Johnson, a seldom seen older veteran. The veteran came close to winning in the first round when she decked Jones. That missed opportunity cost her the fight, as the young woman came back to baffle and hurt Johnson. It wasn’t a runaway fight, but Jones did enough to get a solid decision

VANCAMP/ VANDERVOORT I thought VanCamp won the pre-fight with that snake skin bikini. That was the highpoint of her night. VanCamp did win the first, but from that time on, it was pretty much all Vandervoort. She floored VanCamp twice in the third. In the seventh, Vandervoort again floored VanCamp twice. The last time, VanCamp was counted out. Vandervoort scores the first KO of the night.

MITRA/ PALICKI Mitra recently shocked the boxing world with a KO of Garner and the followed up with a KO of Accola. Well, there was no way she was going to beat Palicki. So I thought. While Mitra won round two and three, Adrianne was ahead on the cards at the end of five. At the beginning of the sixth, a couple overhand rights left Palicki limp on the ropes. Mitra continued the head hunting, even holding Palicki up so she wouldn’t go down until the referee saved Palicki from serious injury. Someone needs to stop this loudmouthed Brit

LIVELY/ BROOK Lively’s lucky punch fifteen minutes of fame is long over. Most probably, so is most probably her stay in Jeri’s. She did manage to floor Brook in the fourth, but then let her escape in the fifth. Brook ended Lively’s night by putting her on the canvas in the sixth and feasting on Lively’s bra until the referee stepped in and stopped the fight. Lively has now lost seven straight, five by KO’s

KURYLENKO/ HOLMES Both come in on four fight losing streaks, but Kuryenko was the favorite due to competition she has faced. In the fourth Kurylenko hurt Holmes and then got caught with a left/ right and went down. In the fifth Kurylenko made her big mistake when she went to Holmes’ trunks. then got payed back by Holmes with a low punch. The infuriated Holmes then ripped into Kurylenko in the sixth with a series of chopping rights that left Kurylenko out on the canvas. Lesson-Don’t foul and don’t refer to your opponent as a famous divorcee

MADEKWE/ DOBREV Madekwe made the same mistake that Kurylenko did, It’s not good to foul your opponent as Madekwe did in the first round. Dobrev was given time to recover, which is seldom done in the FCBA, especially if your are fighting Gena Lee. The furious Dobrev ripped into Madekwe flooring her in the third and punching her into a stupor causing the referee to call a halt to the fight

OLSEN/ GLAU Glau was attempting to end a six fight losing streak. In the first round Glau floored Olsen. We didn’t know it then, but it would be that knockdown that decided the fight. Olsen fought Glau even the rest of the way, the knockdown being the deciding factor in Glau getting the decision

GUGINO/ ROBBIE What convinced Gugino to get back in the ring is beyond me. The 41 year old decided to get into a body punching brawl with Robbie. Not good. Robbie dropped Gugino in the fourth. In the fifth, Robbie continued to soften up Gugino’s body before a couple chopping rights put Gugino down for the count

WINSTEAD/ SWAN Winstead is on a career comeback After a couple dismal years, she has won her last four. Swan is one of the great lightweights. If you don’t believe that, just ask her. You might want to wait until she wakes up after being put out cold by Winstead in the second. Did you notice Decker and Ruah doing the high fives. So much for stable solidarity. Winstead now has five in a row.

MICHALKA/ MUMFORD A good fight though it was a one sided. Michalka took eight of the ten rounds, flooring Mumford in the first and seventh rounds. Mumford managed to win only the fifth and sixth. There were rumors that Michalka was going to move up to lightweight. Apparently, she has decided the hunting grounds at bantam look better

MENOUNOS/ STRAVHOSKI. The upset of the night. After losing the first round, Yvonne got in gear and took rounds two through five, to open a big lead. In the sixth, a sweeping right stunned the blonde and Menounos went all in pounding Strahovski helpless resulting in the fight being stopped.

NOLIN/ BLOODGOOD There is nothing I enjoy more than seeing Gena Lee get whipped up on. Needless to say, I enjoyed this fight as Bloodgood kind of gave Nolin the payback I owe her. Bloodgood decked Nolin in the first. In the fifth, Nolin made the same mistake two other fighters made tonight. She fouled. Isn’t that a surprise. Bloodgood did not take it kindly and simple blew Nolin’s doors off with a devastating KO in the sixth. A big win for Bloodgood, who serves notice that Charlize is going to have a really bad night sometime in the next year, as Bloodgood is one of the Crusaders

BACCARIN/ M. KELLY A good close fight. Three knockdowns, two by Kelly, one by Baccarin. Baccarin had the lead, but lost the last two rounds and the fight was declared a draw. Kelly wanted to continue to a decision. Baccarin had had enough and simply declared, she did what she wanted to do and refused extra rounds. We assume that means the Baccarin’s goal is not to win

MENDES/ CARLSON Somewhat of a surprise. Mendes dug herself into a deep hole with a lack of offense in the first four rounds, which saw her put on the canvas once. Mendes floored Carlson in the fifth, but after that was frustrated by Carlson’s essentially running, but stopping long enough to land punches. Mendes came close to closing it out in the tenth, but couldn’t do it and lost a one point decision

HEIGL/ FREEMAN One of the fights of the night. Freeman looked like she was going to romp as she took the first four rounds. The Heigl came back, but need the last round and she got it. The score, five rounds apiece. One knockdown each. A draw. Freeman wanted to continue. Heigl didn’t. Extra rounds can’t be forced. Heigl ranted like she had just won the title but her refusal to go extra speaks volumes

JOHANSSON/ LAWRENCE This was a big fight for Lawrence, who is considered the future of the Academy. She was favored by the younger elements. Johansson was in favor with the veteran crowd. The younger crowd won. The fight was fairly even going into the sixth round when Lawrence simply went on a tear that Johansson couldn’t come close to handling. She floored Johansson twice, the second time for the KO win

PORTMAN/ TISDALE The second most brutal fight of the night. Both punching away and using questionable tactics, Both fouling win no regret. We had Tisdale ahead on our card going into the eighth when hell broke loose. Portman gave Tisdale a brutal beating while flooring her. Round nine just the opposite. Portman would go down and essentially saved by the bell. Round ten, a low blow set Tisdale up for a Portman blitz that had Tisdale helpless and the bout was stopped just before the bell rang. Portman got a TKO.

WILLIAMS/ HUDGENS The most brutal fight of the night. Williams coming off one of the worst defeats of her career face her nemesis in Vanessa who has 2/1 lead over Mish. Four knockdowns, three by Hudgens , three bras busting two by Hudgens, unstopped slugging. Despite the embarrassment, Hudgens was probably saved from defeat, when the referee stopped the fight in the fifth for her bra to be repaired. After that, it was Hudgens on the offensive and Mish who was saved by busting bras. In the end it was Hudgens who got the nod and now can really claim to be the “Conqueror of Mish” I wonder what Mish thinks about Portman’s comment that she would probably dump to Nessa? Problems surfacing at the Consortium?

KUNIS/ PANETTIERE The “little” girls are really putting on the fights tonight. I didn’t think Hayden would last the first round as she was downed twice. Mila couldn’t follow up and the fight changed. Panettiere got through the second round in good shape. She floored Kunis in fifth and then took the last four hard fought rounds to get the decision

UPTON/ THERON The second Crusade bout and a poor performance from Theron against a bigger, but inexperienced opponent. Although Charlize won the fight with a sixth round TKO, it was a typical old Charlize type fight, in that she won, while taking more punishment than her opponent. Unfortunately, this is not the Charlize of old, but an old Charlize. Big difference, Upton was the weak link in the Crusade and she did some serious damage to Theron’s body. Charlize was lucky to get out of the first round. With the damage done by Govich and now Upton, Theron should be easy picking in the next Crusade bout. It definitely appears she can no longer handle the beef and that is what is in her future

CARTER/ CHABERT This title fight didn’t last long. About five minutes. Carter won the first round and then put Chabert on the canvas in the second. Unlike some other fighters tonight, she didn’t let Chabert get away. She hammered Chabert until she was out on her feet and the fight was halted. The fourth straight title defense for Carter. Should we now call her dominate?

HEWITT/ DUSHKU. Lesson number one never bet against the “sheriff” Lesson number two, never bet against the ‘sheriff” in a title fight. Lesson number three. If your chest is your proudest possession , it can also be your worst enemy in a fight. Hewitt learned all three lessons in a short six minute course. A short right to the jaw early in the first round started the Dushku romp that ended in the second round with destruction reminiscent of a JMD fight. Eliza again is the queen of the bantams

GOVICH/ LOKEN A typical Loken fight. Along the line the opponent is going to find that tender chin and it’s over. Loken made some very bad decisions in this fight. She did OK legging it around but when she chose to brawl, it was turn off the switch time. Govich didn’t knock her out but a chin checker left Loken unable to respond and she was beaten into a mess and the fight was stopped

We must thank SimGuy for posting the PPV on Friday. He did it at our request so we would be able to get the review up this weekend.
