Before: Exotic beauty Sarah Shahi confident in pre-fight interviews: “Of course, I’m excited at the chance to go for the championship. A year ago, the biggest thing I had to look forward to was being picked by Scarlet to get her head back together after she lost the title. Now I’m serious competition for the best girls in the game. It’s a wonderful feeling.” Girl-next-door Julianne Hough has more overall experience, but this is also her first time in the upper echelons of the flyweight division: “Right now, I have to get by Sarah and that’s a hard enough job on its own. She’s very sinuous and tough, there aren’t any blowouts in this girl’s ledger, but I like my wheels better.”

Julianne in fire-engine red Bikini, black gloves, shoulder-length hair wetted down. Sarah in white bikini, white gloves, hair loose and tangly down her back.

R1: Hough out leggy early, hopping and slinking around sidestep. Sarah buries a hesitation right in her belly in the second minute, doubling her over. Julianne finds herself stacked up in the ropes, worked over hard for the rest of the round. Shahi takes up where she left off on Meester, as Hough absorbs a terrific pounding to Head, shoulder, and ribs. Julianne’s legs hold her up under the assault, but Sarah picks up the 10-8 anyway. Monica Belluci makes her way to ringside, gives her rattled star a talking to between rounds.

R2: Hough gets on her bicycle, uses her slight reach advantage to keep Shahi at arm’s length. Light jabs slipping through Sarah’s guard, not doing any damage, but allowing Julianne to post an answering shutout. Concerned conference in Sarah’s corner, Hough cannot be allowed to pinwheel freely out there.

R3: Sarah strong on the inside, hardest blows of the night thudding into Julianne’s ribs as she comes inside behind her jab. Not able to follow up though, as Hough is still able to disengage at will. Shahi may be winning the exchanges, but she hasn’t been able to FORCE one since the first round. Hough shipping more hurt this round, but willing to accept it to maintain control.

R4: Julianne finds another gear, continues to circle and strafe. Jabs coming in even faster, nibbling at Sarah on the inside. Hough is setting an inhuman pace, both fighters have great conditioning, makes the endurance match option an chancy one for Julianne, but more than sufficient to post a shutout this round.

R5:Julianne continues to work the perimeter. Sarah sets up a nice fluid guard, keeps Hough from making any headway on the inside. The result is a series of savage two-way exchanges as Julianne comes inside. Shahi seems to have Hough’s timing down, not giving away any more freebies, but Julianne still dictating the course of the fight itself.

R6: More of the same. Nothing wrong with Sarah when she can get mitts on meat, but Hough is deciding when those opportunities are going to be. Initiative firmly in the blonde’s hands as she takes her fifth straight round.

R7: HOUGH’S ROCKED! As Julianne comes inside, Sarah fakes a right hook to the body, sets her up for an overhand left that sends the blonde reeling. Sarah stacks her up in the ropes, piles on the hurt. She puts everything she has into reducing her opponent to the body. If she’s going to get back into this fight, she has to take away Julianne’s legs. Bell-to-bell domination by the brunette, and it remains to see what the consequences will be.

R8: Sarah comes out eager to pile on, finds out that Julianne can also come show more than one look. This time she’s facing the Julianne Hough who put Kelly Carlson away hard and fast. Shahi’s rocked, driven back across the ring. She firms just shy of the ropes, and both fighters plant and pitch in the hardest sustained two-way action of the fight. Both women pounding away at point blank range, trying to mine the quit out of the other going into the championship rounds. Fighters keep working past the bell, ref has to step in to end the carnage.

R9: Sarah showing the effects of the last round, starting to slow up. Julianne positively bouncy after the past two rounds hard action appears to have made her point, and is content to stay on the outside again. Jab flicking out to nibble and nip as the dancer takes over again.

R10: Hough could just dance out the round and take the fight, but instead comes in to make a statement. She comes inside behind a suppressive jab, then begins to hook Sarah to the body. By the second minute she’s muscled Sarah into the ropes, hooking hard to tummy and tits. Curvy legs hold Sarah up to the bell, but results are a foregone conclusion as she’s been thoroughly outmaneuvered and outclassed. Julianne Hough takes her second straight fight with her legs, and is now poised for a shot at the flyweight belts.

After: After the ref drops Julianne’s hand, she offers it to Sarah, who takes it. Empire girls in attendance mob the ring, Sienna’s absence more pointed as Julianne is poised to succeed where she failed. Flyweight champ Sarah Carter facing a contender not merely for her title, but also for her status as the leggy blonde ring general, and this is not lost on Julianne: “Your legs are old news, Carter! I’m not just taking your title, I’m replacing you!” Fire and ice, poised to collide. Whichever prevails, it’s going to be fun to watch.
