Yvonne Strahovski versus Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Santa-kini Bout)

BEFORE: It's a Christmas tradition. What would the holidays be without a Santa-kini bout? Even better yet, it was between Yvonne Strahovski and constant rival Mary Elizabeth Winstead, a frequent competitor in such Santa-kini matches. Yvonne Strahovski has been a successful fighter in every respect since joining the FCBA thus far, but one constant thorn in her side has been Winstead. Yvonne's wins in 2012 include fighters like Jennifer Garner, Tricia Helfer and Charlize Theron (twice), but has found it difficult – for whate
ver reason – to beat Winstead on a consistent basis. Pundits have tried to explain it a number of ways, but continue to be unable to explain Winstead's frequent wins over her blonde rival.

Thankfully, for those confused, Mary Elizabeth Winstead has an answer: “Heart. I've got more of it than she does and that's something that Great Brunettes tend to have over Great Blondes like Yvonne. Make no mistake about it – I consider myself a Great Brunette. Yvonne can't handle it and that's why I'm going to take her down tonight. I've never backed down from Vonnie and I'm not going to start now. Yvonne is one of my best friends for sure, but I think it's time she learns I'm just better than her. That'll be my Christmas gift to her!”

Yvonne grins at hearing Mary's explanation: “Of course Mary has a heart and tonight, I'm sorry to say I'm going to have to break it. I've got more heart than Mary and even if Mary is a great brunette, I'm definitely a Great Blonde. There's no way I lose to her again. I'm going to end my year on the best note possible – making sure Mary understands that I'm the better fighter! Winnie is definitely one of my best friends here, but don't be mad, Mare, if I go ahead and just re-gift your Christmas present to me. I like it so much, that I'll just give it back to you!”

Both fighters look like they're in a particularly giving mood in this final match-up of the night between rivals, both clad in Santa-kini inspired outfits, practically identical with only minor stylistic differences between them. Both girls have their hair in fighting ponytails, black boxing gloves with white fur cuffs. Red bikini tops with fur trim across and matching boy-cut bottoms with white-fur waistline, along with black belts. Both are clad in black boxing boots approximately mid-calf with white fur trim. In contrast with some of the other fights on display tonight, both fighters hug before the match although when they push apart, it's all business. Once the two step into the ring, it's on!

R1: Yvonne coming forward from the bell in a display of classy boxing against Winstead as the two of them meet midring. It's Yvonne who is turning Mary in the center of the ring, maneuvering her towards the ropes with some rangy jabs and shots coming forward from her hip, trying to slam in her gloves into Mary's torso Showcasing her legs as she slides out of trouble whenever Winstead attempts to pounce forward, busting her up the middle with some quick hooks to opposing tummy and then pushing forward on those same powerful legs, stroking her gloves across Mary's torso. Quickly pivoting and sliding around the ring in a breezy shutout to start off this match, making a statement with her range, preventing Mary from getting close. Mary physically appears to be unhurt, although the look on her face indicates her pride may not be.

R2: In the second round, however, it's Yvonne's body and pride who take a pounding. Yvonne comes forward for more of the bobbing and flanking style that she employed to great effect in the first round, but Mary isn't in the mood for that. Winstead using a completely different tactic – just charging towards Yvonne, her gloves firing out towards Yvonne's chest and bodying her back towards the ropes. Slamming leather into Straho's tummy, torso and cleavage, she looks like a girl on a mission. Yvonne's eyes narrow, trying to get some offense going with some jabs to keep Winstead back, but is unable to get off the ropes. It's brute force as opposed to the breezy, rangy style from the first round, but one can't arge with the results as Mary keeps ripping hooks to ribs for a shutout of her own.

R3: Both fighters immediately head out to the center of the ring, with each fighter eager to use the particular method that has worked so well for them thus far this match as Mary tries to swarm Yvonne from the outset, bumping and fighting off Yvonne's chest throughout the round. Yvonne looking to disrupt Mary's own aggression with a jab, using her footwork to hopefully control Mary and working from a distance, content to keep driving her gloves with rangy precision along Winstead's head and shoulders. Down the stretch, it's Mary displaying that heart she was talking about so prevalently prior to the contest as her will allows her to body up to Yvonne again and push her back to the ropes. Yvonne is pressured by Mary along the ropes as she is outworked this round for close points to award this one for Winstead.

R4: Mary charges in headlong, eager to ragdoll Vonnie to ropes to hopefully resume pounding on her blonde foe. Mary unable to press in close with Yvonne pushing Mary back with a left jab, planting her feet across the canvas and then suddenly, a cute and sneaky right hand suddenly snaps up across Mary's temple. Mary clearly didn't see that coming at all, caught off guard with Winstead wobbly-butt for a moment, then pitches forward to the canvas with a thud. WINSTEAD IS DOWN! Yvonne gazing down, hard-eyed at Mary, as if willing her brunette nemesis to remain face-down on the mats. However, Winstead is plucky enough to make it back to her feet to beat the count, swaying and slightly glassy-eyed as she struggles to focus. Yvonne is not about to let this opportunity go to waste and immediately reaches in under Mary's arms, wrapping her up and shoving her back against the ropes. Chesting up as she makes Winstead take her weight, Straho immediately going to batter her gloves with loud and brutal-looking looping rights and lefts across Mary's torso. Hooks slam in, battering Mary's ribs until she's forced to cover up along her waistline and Yvonne then switches targets to Winstead's chest, just ringing both hands in a steady one-two combination along her cleavage. As Mary starts to double over a bit, Yvonne is shrugging in swift little uppercuts into Mary's face. The ref starts to step in, wondering whether Mary will recover, but as Yvonne starts slamming in right and left hooks, forcing Mary to go earmuff and seeing the tears in her eyes, the ref has no choice but to stop the match. Yvonne keeps pounding away, unaware of the win, her sturdy sinewy thighs set, gloves stuffing in a steady rhythm towards Mary's head and shoulders as the ref pulls Yvonne off as she just cleaned up like a champ. Battering Mary without mercy to get the win via TKO4 for Yvonne Strahovski!!

AFTER It's a huge win for Yvonne over her long-standing rival, which Yvonne celebrates by bellowing in triumph and pumping her fist into the air emphatically. In stark contrast, Winstead is blinking back tears of hurt and shock on her stool, trying to overcome the crushing loss she'd just suffered. Those quickly turn to “How-could-you” tears and cries of protest as Yvonne comes over, gripping her by the arm and wrapping one of her blonde forearms around Winstead's waist. It's clear Yvonne has never forgotten being walked by Winstead in their first bout and is eager to return the favor. Mary appears to not have expected this at all, shaking her head back and forth as Yvonne leads her around the ring, tugging her confidently and posing with her defeated opponent in each corner. Yvonne grinning, in complete control at the moment. Mary tries to wriggle free once or twice, but Yvonne will curl in her forearm tighter to give her a rough shake in order to halt any thoughts of freedom. Finally, Yvonne leans forward, whispers something in Mary's ear that is inaudible to anybody but the two rivals, though the look on Winstead's face indicates it's definitely something other than holiday wishes as Strahovski finally allows her opponent to escape from the Walk of Shame.

Yvonne doesn't appear apologetic afterward, either: “I told myself I wouldn't walk her until I knocked her out and tonight, I did. TKO4, baby! Mary has been one of my best friends and biggest challenges here in the FCBA, but I simply couldn't let her get away with doing that to me. That's how she welcomed me to the league and that's how I'm going to end out the year with a win over Mare. Sorry, Winnie, but you had it coming! Who has got more heart now, huh? Merry freakin' Christmas!”, pumping her fist into the air and smiling, clearly excited at exacting long-awaited retribution against her rival. As Yvonne promised before the contest, a heart-breaking loss for Winstead and an impressive performance from Yvonne to win her final match heading into 2013. Of course, seeing as the world didn't end, it certainly won't be the final match between the two and it was clear that their next match couldn't happen soon enough.
