Australian Pride Tour

BEFORE: This is the second match of Yvonne Strahovski's Australian Celebrity Boxing Association (ACBA) tour and Yvonne hopes its as successful as the first against the gorgeous Melissa George. Poppy Montgomery is a well known Australian actress for her roles in “Without A Trace” and most recently, taking on a leading role in “Unforgettable.”, a procedural which was unfortunately anything but to American audiences. However, that doesn't deter the rising star of Poppy one bit as it was recently renewed for a second season to debut in the summer of 2013, after it was originally canceled. In regards to boxing, Poppy was best known for her series of matches in the FCBA against Jennifer McCarthy and here in the BBU, for winning the BBU Lightweight title before losing it to Phoebe Tonkin, who was highly rumored to be Yvonne's next opponent. Poppy was short for a lightweight, but made up for it by hitting hard. Yvonne was determined to use her height and hit harder to score a follow-up win to continue her early success here in Australia.

The fight takes place at Four Mile Beach, aptly named for its four miles of clean white sand.

R1: Poppy known as a no-nonsense fighter and that is on display as she comes out aggressively in the opening stages of the contest. Montgomery swings forward with straight rights towards Yvonne's face and body, but Yvonne looking just as clinical as she is maneuvering backwards out of range, then re-establishing from different angles to slam her gloves in towards Poppy's face and shoulders. Poppy bobbing around the ring, trying to use some speed to drive in towards Yvonne's tummy and ribs, moving quickly. Yvonne sending her gloves in over Montgomery's guard and just catching her flush in the face, forcing Montgomery to retreat from her opponent's lanky jabs. Yvonne follows up by working to punish Poppy's body with hard hooks towards her ribs and tummy. It's a bad first round for Poppy as she is wobbly-butt in the ropes after the rangy jabs do a number on her from Yvonne, who takes the round wide.

R2: It's a more successful round for Poppy this time at the start as she resets her guard, focusing on keeping up her defenses against Yvonne's height. However, Yvonne keeps slamming in her gloves overhand, occasionally connecting with a flush right hook or a stiff left jab to the body, sending Poppy stumbling to the side. Poppy shifts tactics to try to trade inside, sending in spanking jabs to her opponent's ribs and abs. Yvonne and Poppy exchanging blows in the center of the ring, just delivering hard rights and lefts towards one another, drilling into torso and then pinging jabs towards the upper body and face. Its a brief war of attrition and Poppy is the first to disengage, backing up earmuff as Yvonne delivers hard right and left hooks. Poppy keeping her guard up, working out of her defense to deliver a few sharp jabs to Yvonne, but it's Poppy who gets pushed around this round as Yvonne takes her second round in a row.

R3: Poppy comes out breathing hard, bringing up her mitts to defend against Yvonne's digging shots to her body. Poppy ducks down underneath her guard, hunching forward slightly, then pounding away at Yvonne's torso. Just hammering away with clean, stiff uppercuts towards Yvonne's abs and ribs as hard as she can. Yvonne caught off guard, thrown off her steady rhythm of jabs as she backpedals momentarily from the punishing flurry of shots to her tummy. Poppy pounces forward to pursue, but Yvonne shoots out that jab to keep her backwards. Poppy follows up by continuing to hammer shots towards Yvonne's ribcage, but Yvonne shifts away from her opponent to ensure that they don't land cleanly. Yvonne then comes in hard with a piston-like jab that catches the charging Poppy hard, running right into it. The two of them exchange more hooks and in the final minute, Yvonne manages to push Poppy back into the ropes behind the jab to keep her momentum going, though judges score the round for Poppy close.

R4: Poppy comes out from her corner, eager to establish that successful jab to Yvonne's tummy while Yvonne looks to get back into her own successful beat of right and left hooks. Poppy coming forward out of her guard, defending well, bringing up her gloves high and then just lashing out towards Yvonne's midsection. Yvonne keeping her gloves down low, elbows in, maintaining her composure as Poppy also remains disciplined, just slamming in right hands towards Yvonne's ribcage when she can. Yvonne keeps pressuring forward, however, not about to get pushed around by Poppy as a snug overhand right hand catches Poppy clean to her head, cheek whipping to the side as Poppy goes wobbly-butt and drops to one knee. Poppy shakes her head, managing to get back to her feet after a few dazed seconds, then trying to charge forward but Yvonne not having it. Yvonne manages to spin her shorter opponent to the ropes, then whacking away at her ribs but Poppy, although breathing hard in the ropes, is still standing through four. Yvonne takes the round, however.

R5: Poppy is sore from the previous round's punishment, but comes out swinging anyway. Yvonne bobs away from her opponent's blows, then delivers a stiff little uppercut as she comes in from the side. Poppy dazed, but stays upright as she brings up her gloves to protect her face, which has been battered throughout the match with Yvonne's lanky, overhead shots. But, now it's Yvonne's turn to tattoo Poppy's torso with clean left and right hooks that double Poppy over. Poppy breathes hard, bringing down her gloves low, not fighting back so much at this point as much as trying to survive the round. Unfortunately, she doesn't as Yvonne catches her in the middle minute flush with another hard right overhand shot that just sends her crashing to her knees, then Poppy is spilling facefirst to the sand. Unable to rise up, it's Yvonne Strahovski who is awarded the win via KO5!

AFTER: Another hard-hitting match for Yvonne, but Yvonne's length too much for Poppy this particular contest. Just too much. Yvonne takes a moment to celebrate with the crowd, then comes over to help Poppy up as Yvonne shows herself to be a good sport. Yvonne could've sworn she saw Phoebe Tonkin in the crowd, but just as quickly as that, she was gone. After the two of them exchange polite hugs and pose for pictures, the two of them go jet skiing over the Coral Sea, leaving from a cheering crowd.
