Australian Pride Tour

BEFORE: Thankfully, Yvonne got to extend her stay in Sydney, visiting with friends and family before taking on a fighter that wasn't under management by the ACBA in Anna Torv. Anna Torv was one of the hottest Australian imports currently on television and a successful fighter in the FCBA. Ever since she had shocked Yvonne Strahovski with a win in her FCBA debut, agents for both fighters had been clamoring for a rematch. The two had a long standing rivalry in Australian boxing circles, but it had been several years since they had (officially) fought in a ring, though rumors persisted of unsanctioned fights between the two. Now, after a great deal of negotiating, the Australian Celebrity Boxing Association (ACBA) had secured a rematch between the two of them here in their home country.

Anna was feeling very confident in her prospects about the win during the pre-fight: “Of course I've heard all the hype about Yvonne taking down girls like Theron and finally beating Winstead, but that's all it is – hype. When it comes to fighters from Australia, I'm just going to prove what people have been saying for years: I'm the best. I realize Yvonne has done pretty well on her tour thus far, but she won't have any pride, Australian or otherwise, once I'm finished knocking her out. Just watch and be amazed! ” Yvonne gazing coolly over at her Australian rival, “Of course Anna is one of the best and we've tangled so many times over the years on the Australian boxing circuit, that we know each other so well. But, the fact is, she also knows I'm better. I'm the best fighter Australia has to offer and she is going to have to learn that first-hand. I've been looking forward to this one for a long time and it's going to go MY way!”

Just like that, the stakes are immediately raised between the two as one of the best rivalries in Australian boxing resumes on home soil. As Yvonne was born in Sydney and Anna in Melbourne, a neutral beach was sought between the two of them. The one that was selected by members of both stables was Batemans Bay, on the Eurobodalla Nature Coast in New South Wales, which is believed to have some of Australia's most breathtaking scenery and unspoiled beaches. With many white sandy stretches and sparkling blue calm waters, attractions that can be found at Batemans Bay include sunbathing, swimming, scuba diving and wind surfing. Many friends, fans and family members made the trip to observe the match between the two

Anna wearing a green bikini with brass ring connections and matching gloves with golden lining, hair in a ponytail; Yvonne deciding to test her luck with her own golden bikini with green trim, with the brass hoop connection of her own with matching gloves and a fighting ponytail.

R1: Both Yvonne and Anna have clearly improved since their previous bouts as they approach each other cautiously to start, with Yvonne coming out pumping left jabs towards Anna's temples and head, then occasionally switching in that right hook off of the jab to keep Anna from getting into a rhythm. Anna boxing slick, however, sidestepping and bending down low, coming in to slip shots around Yvonne's chest and torso. Torv doesn't back down, but Yvonne coming in, sending in swift combinations, pouncing forward and then bouncing backwards to keep Anna off balance. It's a hotly contested round, but Yvonne takes it as she is the more active puncher of the two through one.

R2: The cautiousness of the first round is largely abandoned here as the two of them come out aggressive, teeth bared. Anna working on some counter-punching to avoid Yvonne's jabbing motions, working swiftly to strike out with some hooks that snap out towards Yvonne's temples and then mixing in some quick jabs towards Strahovski's torso. Alternating between the two of them as Yvonne is on the defensive initially, though fights her way back in as she darts in and out, sending out straight shots into Torv's torso and chest, mounting further strafing runs to disrupt Torv's sense of timing. Torv keeps up the jab throughout, however, staying focused as she takes the round close.

R3: Yvonne seeking to mix it up as well, sneaking in some right uppercuts and some left hooks that strike down towards Anna's abs. Anna doubling over slightly at the start, bunching up from the repeated shots that seem to hammer into Torv's tummy. Anna backs up and tries to organize herself behind the jab, bringing up her defenses to protect her lower body, then clouting right and left hands to Straho's ribs aggressively. Yvonne wincing, but still spitting out that right jab of her own in straight fashion towards Anna's face. The two of them harry and pursue each other around the ring, trying to pin each other along the ropes. Swatting each other along their rival's midsections and sneaking in uppercuts to daze their opponent, but neither gets a clear advantage. Yvonne the busier of the two though, as she takes the round close, landing more punches. Anna efficient in her movements though and when she does land, they connect solidly.

R4: Yvonne starting to feel the accumulation of those hard punches as Anna keeps pumping out that jab, brisk and feisty, bouncing forward to strike out at Yvonne around her chest, head and shoulders, forcing Yvonne to cover up as the round begins. It's a good performance by Anna as Strahovski has to go on the defensive, legging away from the lathering punishment as she maneuversh herself counter-clockwise, trying to get at Anna from different angles, rotating behind her jab as she clouts Anna across her chin to keep her opponent from coming forward. But, Anna does anyway, moving in efficient fashion to hammer away at Yvonne, left and right, banging away to glory in the fourth to body Yvonne backwards with repeated shots to her torso. Now, it's Yvonne's turn to double over, a little breathless, as Anna is pulled off at the bell with a cool, confident smile and struts back to her corner.

R5: Yvonne comes out of her corner intense, frustrated after her showing the previous round, as Anna looks to stick behind that jab and keep working her opponent over. Yvonne turning up the tempo, bobbing and weaving, pushing forward off of her right leg, punishing Anna by putting a lot of power behind a spearing jab to Torv's torso again, then switching to right left strikes across her jugs. Battering Anna backwards under the assault with Yvonne really showing off her range as Anna tries to clinch, using her weight to body Yvonne back towards the ropes. Yvonne pushes off, but Anna slips backwards, stabilizing as she is pushed back towards the ropes. Slapping in some short strikes towards to Straho's midsection, trying to retake control. Final minute – it's much closer than it looked at the start – Anna trading punches with Strahovski – battling along the ropes, but Yvonne getting on top, swatting towards Torv's chest or digging into her tummy repeatedly. It's Strahovski who saunters back to her corner after this round.

R6: Yvonne coming in out of her corner, eager to close, but Anna just as determined to deny her the finishing run. Strahovsi charging in, sending out some rangy jabs, licking out towards Torv's face and striking down around her ribs. Torv displaying excellent timing though, continually disrupting Yvonne's attacks with right-left combinations and stroking Yvonne around her ribs. Ripping shots at Yvonne's ribs as Yvonne groans, wincing as Torv walks her back towards the ropes under the constant attention paid to her torso. Torv dipping low, just eager to punish Strahovski's belly, but Strahovski swatting towards Anna's head and chest with some powerful shots of her own. When Yvonne strikes, it's big – but with Anna's body low and continuing to weave, Vonnie's shots are missing more than she'd like. With Anna's brisk barrage of blows, it keeps bullying Yvonne back and now, it's Anna on top at the end of the round as she controls the round with a sleek display of boxing and footwork to outwork her blonde rival this round.

R7: Neither fighter backing down as they immediately head across the ring to meet each other as Yvonne looks to retake initiative, but Anna interested more in wearing down Yvonne across the ribs and torso, switching back and forth with a series of spanking right hooks to Yvonne's tummy, then pumping her gloves higher, achieving the desired confusion when she delivers some shots across Yvonne's jugs to keep her backpedaling. Anna moving around the ring, limber, making it difficult for Yvonne to land any shots cleanly, but that doesn't keep Yvonne from still coming forward, slamming in power shots toward Torv's head and shoulders. The two of them constantly on the move, swapping shots, delivering punches and in the final minute, Yvonne checks Anna's chin with a sneaky right that catches her off guard. Torv blinking, stumbling a bit as Yvonne seizes the opportunity, jabbing without pity now, just pushing Anna back to ropes behind the jab, connecting solidly with her foe's ribs and mixing in the odd uppercut to take the round down the stretch.

R8: Yvonne proving nimble, moving in quickly to remain atop Anna with her gloves flicking out in constant jabs, resuming her speedy tempo to try to really dig-in. Anna manuevering around the ring, delivering some good hit-and-run strafing shots that seem to disrupt Yvonne, but doesn't seem to really hurt her either. Anna in defensive position throughout the round, but smartly gambles at times to lunge forward, sneaking in a right hook to Yvonne's cheek to whip her head to the side or a hard uppercut to her torso, doubling her blonde opponent over. But, Yvonne deploys her right hand, dipping low, her glove spanking in buggywhip fashion, pounding in towards her foe's flank, digging in to really work Torv's torso. Yvonne substituting power for slick boxing this round, ragdolling Anna back to the ropes. Torv defiant, answering off of the ropes with sleek and supple counter-punching, catching Yvonne in spots to answer Yvonne's rangy jabs with some powerful shots of her own, leather colliding into Yvonne's ribs, which are turning pink. Yvonne sponging up some punishment, but pushing her foe back into the ropes. Digging down into Torv's tummy in retaliation, pounding hard as Anna doubles over and right before the bell, Yvonne nails her with a left cross atop the cheek to put her butt-in-ropes.

R9: Yvonne starts off the round with jabs to the belly as Anna is breathing hard, but still working to impose her will behind the jabs. Switching back and forth across the balls of her feet, showing off some great footwork, Anna looks determined to fight her way back into this contest, eyes blazing, she fires in with some uppercuts at close range that connect solidly with Yvonne's torso. Strahovski gasping herself, but as the two of them swap hard shots mid-ring, Yvonne delivers an overhand right cross that connects across Anna's cheek. TORV GOES DOWN, spilling to her butt, then falling to her back as she struggles to rise. Yvonne panting out, but heads back to a neutral corner, all-smiles, hoping to will Torv to stay down. Torv does not, however, managing to rise up again at 8. Anna stumbles to her feet, swaying to the ropes as she uses them to push herself up, but the Australian crowd very supportive of her will to fight. Yvonne also impressed, but her eyes flare with determination to finish this match off. Torv struggling to get her bearings as she comes forward, then drifts to bob along the ropes, blinking as Strahovski pounces forward. Yvonne whacks away right-left towards Anna's ribs and then as Torv's guard dips low, Strahovski delivers a stunning right uppercut - her right glove slamming in underneath Torv's chin. Torv was already butt-in-ropes, now she's sliding down along them, then spilling down face-first into the canvas perpendicular to the ropes. Strahovski a little more upbeat with this second knockdown, jogging back to her corner, looking confident. This time, she has good reason to be as Torv does not get back up, slumbering along the mats as the count passes her by. The ref counts to 10 and then awards the match to Yvonne Strahovski via TKO9!!

AFTER: Yvonne unable to hide her excitement at beating Anna Torv, beaming as she bounces around the ring, hugging her trainers and making her way outside to exchange hugs with friends and family. The media eager to speak with her as she smiles, removing her gloves as she gives high fives to fans in the audience, just speaking to the assembled reporters in between exchanges with fans, gracious in post-fight, at first at least. “Am I the best boxer Australia has to offer? I don't know – that's for others to decide – but honestly, I think my record speaks for itself!” as she brings up both hands – one in a peace sign and the other with all five fingers splayed out, signifying “7-0” on this particular tour. Yvonne takes one hand, high fiving fans in the crowd all along the barricades and still holding up her other hand, pumping her fist into the air with excitement. It's a big win for Yvonne and she is soaking in the moment, “I told you I'd win, didn't I?” she tells some of her family and friends.

In the ring, Torv has been revived in her corner and is starting to stir as Yvonne slides back into the ring for a moment. Torv looks up at Yvonne as Strahovski approaches her as her intent isn't obvious, but Yvonne comes forward to give her a classy handshake. The two aren't close enough for a hug and probably never will be. The embers of their rivalry still burn in each other's eyes as Yvonne's hand is extended. Torv meeting Yvonne's gaze coolly, stomps her foot in anger at the outcome as the crowd watches, but finally Torv accepts it for the briefest of handshakes between the two. Yvonne then grins, eyes flickering confidently, then brushes past her Australian rival as Torv trembles angrily, the look in her eyes making it clear this isn't the last between them.

Rumors swirl in Australian tabloids and media of whether Strahovski and Torv, like the other fighters Yvonne has faced on her tour, partake in the relaxation and enjoyment the beach has to offer. No definitive proof was provided, although several media organizations publish grainy shots of what appears to be the two fighters windsurfing or coming out of a sauna. Neither Lookout! Boxing or Front Street comment on these rumors, however. Over in the States, BLONDE! MAGAZINE does put out an edition with Yvonne Strahovski standing over Anna Torv on the cover with “AUSTRALIA'S BEST BOXER!” in bold print. Inside, they detail Yvonne's career and speak glowingly of Torv's output as well. Articles from various representatives from the FCBA and ACBA discuss the rivalry and the potential for a rematch between the two. For now though, Yvonne appears to be on top of the Australian boxing world and now, heads back to the United States on trustworthy Oceanic Airlines (but not flight 815) to do the same to the FCBA.
