Before: Scarlett used Shahi to bounce back from an unexpected defeat 2 years ago, looking to repeat the experience. “Sarah’s always been a little whirlwind, and she’s only gotten better this past year. She’s a bit of a distraction, but after I beat her, I won’t need to worry about every wannabe sniffing around looking to make a name for themselves.

“It looks like she just hasn’t been able to beat elite fighters since she lost the title. I guess we’ll see whether I fit into that category or not,” Sarah observes in prefight. “We were neck & neck last time, and I was still just an indy fighter back then. If she still thinks of me that way, she’s going to find out the hard way that I’m a much tougher nut to crack now.”

In deference to the heat, Scarlett opts for a lavender single-strap bikini top and dark purple bottoms instead of the neoprene togs she‘s been using for most of the last few years. Shoulder-length hair is back to its original platinum blonde. Shahi wearing her pattern bikini, gypsy curls loose & tangly. White gloves all around.

R1: Sarah likes to get out in front early, and this fight is no exception. Shahi bobbing under Johansson’s jab, employing sudden right hand counters up the middle to the right side of Scarlett's chin. Johansson rattled by these pokes, allowing Shahi to force close action. On the inside, Sarah has her way short, tight side to side punches to ribs and rack, jerking little left uppercuts picking up Scarlett's chin. Sustained punishment hounds Scarlett throughout middle minute, she steps back grimacing to the ropes. Shahi working thick-and-methodical about Scarlett's waist, then shrugging up into that bulging rack, beating Scarlett into stupor as she salts away the shutout.

R2: Sarah still pressing the action, taking the fight to Scarlett's body and backing blonde to ropes. Sumptuous stuff , Shahi stacking Johansson, then batting away, bouncing right hands off Johansson's tummy and ribs as she crowds in close off Scarlett's right shoulder. String of unanswered blows, Johansson grimacing, bobbing up and down but she's getting lapped here as Shahi works. Scarlett slipping, twisting to either side as she’s forced completely on the defensive. Johansson pretty slick at the ropes, but getting whaled on to the bell. Jeri Ryan animated in JKO corner during the break, wants her beating Shahi to punches, and stay off the ropes.

R3: It ain’t broke, so she doesn’t fix it: Sarah continuing to come up the middle, whacking rights and lefts to Scarlett's flanks, forcing her into retreat yet again. Johannson not loving the pressure, Shahi smiling in rapid pursuit. Scarlett hurt, but able to rally, clever counterclockwise pivot to break contact, straight right hand leads and lean-away left hooks to paste Sarah's face as she reengages. She buries a scooping right deep into the pit of Shahi’s belly, bunching her up. An overhand left from the southpaw sends Sarah reeling backwards. Now the situation is reversed, Scarlett much more methodical in pursuit as she walks Shahi down in the southpaw stance. Right jab over Sarah’s left to locate, setting up the short left uppercut, then pivot away on the left foot to avoid receipts. Round stealing flurry drives Sarah back into ropes just as the bell sounds to punctuate a solidly stolen round. Hard-eyed staredown after the bell, and both women maintain eye contact across the ring during the break.

R4: Neither fighter satisfied by the earlier maneuver dominated rounds, by unspoken agreement they meet midring for pitched battle. Scarlett busier, Sarah stronger. Shahi's whack-batting hips/ribs in wide, batting patterns that frequently force Scarlett to cover up. Johannson fighting from the pocket, bobbing in her stance, erupting to slap-chop straight lefts to Sarah's face, shifting weight to back leg, clipping right hooks to keep Shahi at range. Punishment piling up both ways, forms breaking down as the minutes crawl. Sarah focuses on blonde breadbasket: cruel, shoving right hands and snatching left hooks beat the breath from Scarlett, putting her wobbly butt. Johannson squares up, her jab licks at Shahi's face, lining the brunette up for a CRASHING right cross in the final minute! Cheerleader's curvy legs are tested, she doesn't go down, but she's wobbly-butt. Tremendous output by both girls, but best, cleanest and hardest shots late are a left hook dug to Shahi's sternum, and a tasty right cross followup that finds Shahi's chin. Both fighters on auto-pilot, pounding on each other artlessly past the bell until the ref breaks them up. Sarah sporting a mouse under her right eye, Scarlett visibly pinked up from ribs to pelvis on both flanks.

R5: Scarlett’s work upstairs may have gotten her the points last round, but Sarah’s body work looks to have paid the bigger dividend, she‘s comparatively fresh. Johannson slower off the stool, surprised by a surging Shahi. Sarah bobbing and weaving underneath as her blonde tries to touch her with jabs, Shahi eventually gets in close and comes lunging up out of the crouch into a leaping left uppercut! AND SCARLETT GOES DOWN! Delayed reaction collapse sends the blonde to her knees, she beats the count and talks the visibly concerned ref into letting her go on. Johansson forms up on the ropes to meet the brunette’s charge, covering up earmuff as Shahi flurries the gut; roams up top to bat left/rights off the ears. Long minute and a half, Scarlett keeps her feet, but desperately hurt as attrition is all one way this round.

R6: Scarlett hollow-eyed as she comes out this round. Sarah sensing the kill, pouncing on damaged goods. Low-slung right hand takes Johannson heavily in already worked-over ribs, draining the color from her face. Scarlett swooning, butt-in-ropes as she droops forward behind gloves. Sarah on top of her hard & savage, rights and lefts thumping in behind either elbow as brunette squares away. Johannson in an all-to-familiar predicament, unable to do anything but try to roll with the punches while trying to tie up for a break AND THE REF’S SEEN ENOUGH! TKO6 Sarah Shahi as Scarlett’s slide continues!

After: Scarlett declined to exact tribute from Sarah after their first fight in favor of declaring her readiness to retake the flyweight belts, now Shahi returns the favor. “I have to admit, I seemed to be the only person saying I wasn’t ready to take the title. But after this, there’s nobody who can say I don’t deserve a shot. You’ve been warned ladies, Sarah Shahi’s comin!”
