Before: Bosworth, along with Evangeline Lilly, projecting to be the future of the bantamweight division—ethereal blonde saying all the right things in preparation for tune against Smart., “Amy’s a dedicated pro, a hard worker,” says Kate in prefight., “She’s not going to lie down just because I’m ‘Kate Bosworth’. I’m just happy to be back in the ring and I’m looking to put on a good show.” Smart a deep discount dog at most books, but she’s quietly confident coming in, “Kate’s insanely talented,” Smart admits, “but like a lot of talented fighters, she’s a little slipshod on technique at times., I see tummy to be taken, I think I can get right hands—I mean--I’ve got some cards to play here. It’s not all just about Kate.” Bosworth in navy surfer-girl trunks, green/yellow tie-dye bikini top—off-white crochet bikini, Smart. Small gloves, both vixens.

During R1: Tactical first: Smart dukes up at eyebrows, rigid form; Bos more relaxed, right at her temple, left lower, Girls rotate clockwise, spritz jabs: Kate parrying with her right hand and popping Amy routinely in the mouth as Bos gets the better of it, Kate with nifty head-movements, ducks inside, puts her left shoulder in Amy’s chest and pivots 45 degrees to the right, turning Smart and opening her up for a digging hook to waist. Kate opening up late, doubling up the jab, darting in and out, doubling up hooks to Smart’s ribs—classy first leaves Amy in the dust as Bosworth cleans up.

R2: Bosworth doubling up jabs crisp from tummy level—Amy taking shiny on the face, Katie dropping her left, dipping sand hooking the ribcage, but Smart hanging in there, dropping elbows to block, then answering a firm one-two on the button to startle Katie, Bos reloading—Amy steps in another straight one-two, right hand spanking hard off the eye, staggering Katie a step to the right. Left hook/right hand—Amy with a stepping-pursuit, staying in range and tagging Kate as Bosworth looks to disengage. Kate blinking, startled: Amy bangs away one-two, driving Katie ropeside. Hook/right hand=--Amy staying pesky on Kate, touching her, batting her—little flicking jab/right hand/clubbing hook drapes Katie blinking against the ropes. Right hand.  Right hand. RIGHT HAND! Crowd screaming as Bosworth staring into punches—Amy setting, stabilizing with the left in Katie’s chest and RIPPING her rights on the left eye—BOSWORTH WOBBLES TO MAT! Amy stunned at unexpected success—jogs to neutral corner as Kate struggles up in a bewildered fog. REF STOPS THE FIGHT! Bos up at 10, reeling and staggering—Ref waves this thing off and hugs her to safety as Amy Smart stares goggle-eyed in disbelief, TKO2 Amy Smart.

After: Smart swarmed by stablemates as she pulls off Upset-of-the-Year caliber victory--guess that’s why they go ahead and fight the fights after all. “I never DREAMED I’d get to Kate so early,” Smart gushes in postfight, still amazed at her achievement, “I mean, she holds her left hand low, so I thought I could get right hands, but I figured I’d have to work her body over the first half to get a chance at getting ‘em in late. I think she probably underestimated me and that’s all I needed—she’s not so much better than me that she can come in lazy.” Bosworth quickly recovering, ashen-faced, “I want a rematch,” Bos says simply. “That’s all I have to say. I want a rematch and I want it as soon as possible, There’s no way Amy Smart is in my league—this was a one-in-a-million moonshot for her and she knows it.”
