UD10 1pt Farentino

The “Poor Man’s Jennifer Connelly”—Debrah Farentino—illustrated why she’s earned that moniker over the years, treat8ng her more infamous cougar counterpart to a delicious 10 rounds of class and pinpoint power en route to a narrow 1 point duke.

Pumping a scholarly jab., stepping to her left, Farentino dictated all terms to Brandy over the first half, keeping the blonde out on the end if poke and lumping her up badly with straight sock, Debrah was deliberate to the body, choosy with right hands—placing firm if unspectacular power shots to her foe’s body, breasts and head off that sterling stick. It looked like a shutout in the making as Ledford gnashed her teeth, fussed with her hand position and took an inordinate amount of clean contact in her face in the process if dropping the first four rounds to the workmanlike brunette.

The fight heated up when Ledford finally worked her way into combination-punching range, proving the superior beauty in tight and hurting Farentino to open the sixth,. But Debrah would show heart—recovering well from blonde wallop and hurting Ledford with uppercuts late to actually steal Brandy’s best round to this point., Ledford was sent back to her corner reeling in hurt and confusion: Debrah was proving classier, tougher, smarter and better schooled, even if by the thinnest of margins at times.

Over the second half, Ledford made inroads, forcing the lean Farentino to slug toe-to-toe more often; the blonde’s compact cluster-punching proved an advantage when instinctive fighting was called for. Farentino would be rocked repeatedly down the stretch—hurt to the body AND to the head with shirt, clubbing hooks and crosses—but the wiry brunette proved just as durable as she had been elegant. Punching bitterly in the 7th and 8th rounds—stinging Ledford with clouting right hands and come-back left uppercuts—Debrah managed to stake herself to the lead she would need to withstand Brandy’s fearsome final 6 minutes. Farentino would be badly battered much of the 9th and 10th rounds in her own corner, covering up woozy but flurrying back even when hurt, to deny Brandy any chance of closing the show early.

A gutty, smart performance by one of the classiest B-listers in boxing—and one can only imagine now Debrah would do against the real Jennifer Connelly with a similar heady game plan.
