The signs were all there in the weeks leading up to this contest. The street made Becky a prohibitive 4-1 favourite. BLONDE! Magazine had already slanted coverage for the fight with a Romijn-victory skew. Becky placed a $100,000 bet at Caesar’s on herself to win by KO and was very haughty, diva-esque in all face-to-face conferences with her buxom brunette opponent. The stage was set for the upset, and on that stage, the biggest fight of her career—Nadia Bjorlin put forth the performance of a lifetime to stun the big blonde movie star.

The worst thing in the world happened to Becky in the first round: she hurt Nadia and nearly stopped her with right hands—it looked for all the world like the predicted Romijn-romp was unfolded as expected. After 3 rounds however—Becky would visit the canvas twice, be battered pillar to post and be drawn into a brutal slugfest the likes of which she never would have suspected,

Nadia’s brutal subjugation of Becky was no artistic masterpiece. The daytime vixen was frequently sloppy and too eager—falling in on Becky, overswinging, falling off balance—but through it all, Nadia was putting her body on Romijn and making her work every second of every round. Rebecca’s superior skills were taken away from her by Bjorlin’s hamhanded body work and smothering pressure at the ropes: a hurt, ragged Romijn was forced to brawl mouth-on-shoulder with a hungry, buxom brunette who wasn’t following the script. It was a heartbreaking night for the blonde—her first real set back since coming out as the WB’s new fair-haired girl.

Over the second half--Becky DID manage to stabilize the situation, get her range and box Nadia fairly effectively. Romijn would win 5 rounds in this contest and hurt Bjorlin on several occasions, but the blonde’s many trips to the canvas (4 in all) would seal the deal for the upstart brunette. It goes down as one of the biggest upsets of the year and sets Nadia Bjorlin up as this year’s unlikely feel-good-story as well.
