Before: (Unger the blonde in The Game, playing all this month on TBS) Gershon tuning up, making another comeback after a lengthy layoff. Unger the classic dangerous no-name, with victories over an impressive list of brunettes, but Gershon insisting on quality opponents lives up to her rep. Gershon in black sports bra, red aerobics briefs, messy ponytail, Unger in navy nylon jogging shorts, teal bikini top, messy ponytail.

During R1-3: Gina definitely a little rusty as Unger outhustles the older girl to take an early lead. Both girls slick pros in the ring, able to deflect punches with their lead shoulder, good head movement, using their legs to open up angles, get in and out, and good combination punching skills when they get there. Close rounds to score, but Unger beginning and ending most of the exchanges - she's got Gershon guessing, sometimes leading sometimes countering -Gina's timing looks off as a result.

R4: Gina switching to the body as the blonde seems a little quicker than anticipated. Deborah accommodates, getting off with left/right combinations to the hips, then stepping around -Gershon starting to cave slightly, and a vicious double hook, right hand on the luscious lips of Gina has her hurt at the midway point. Gershon's eyes glazing as her legs start to wander and Deborah takes it to her. Crisp, harmful 3 and 4 punch strikes, the blows clubbing in around Gershon's suspect guard - Unger spinning off the brunette to keep Gina turning midring. Round ends with Gershon eating another glossy 3 punch burst on her mouth - GG left dazed and confused as Unger marches past her to her corner, ponytail bouncing all the way.

R5: No panic in Gershon - she maintains the focus on Deborah's midriff, cutting off the ring and getting to the blonde's stomach with banging lefts and rights, then using the shoulder to buck Unger onto her heels. Deborah doesn't like it downstairs, she folds to the ropes and in the final minute, Gershon has her best moments - crowding the blonde, working up and down her sides with chopping lefts and rights, keeping Deb hunched over and hurting.

R6: More steady work from Gershon who seems to have her blonde foe solved. Girls working forehead to forehead - Unger trying to stay off the ropes, but she can't get Gina off her, and the brunette is clubbing her to death with steady, short strokes to the waist and chin inside. Wheels fall off late as Unger finally steps back, tagging Gina with a biting right uppercut on the teeth, putting the hook on top, and Gershon does the funky chicken, staggering away with limbs suddenly rubbery. Unger stepping in, jabs Gina to the ropes, then rips selective right hands to the waist and head, always coming back to a tight defensive position so Gina can't surprise. Unger steals a Gershon round, hurting Gina once again and the crowd starts to buzz with anticipation of a potentially huge upset.


R7: You don't see this everyday: Gina Gershon bullied in her own corner, battered senseless and nearly knocked out from a sustained beating that lasts the full 3 minutes. Unger working with a stoic grimace, flashes wicked combinations, absolutely shredding Gina's defense and beating the brunette to a pulp with constant pressure. This is superb shove and slug from Unger, who seems able to read Gina's every counter attempt, leaning back or ducking under Gina's shaky strokes and coming back with hard, hard chops to the face and stomach. The final minute is a test of Gina's will as she sits on the turnbuckle, gloves at her lips, eyes glassing over as Unger pours it on, sinking her fists into Gina's golden brown belly, clubbing short right hands repeatedly against Gershon's jaw. Unger with that cool, catlike stare regards her handiwork at the bell as Gershon swoons.

R8: Incredible tenacity from Gershon as she refuses to lie down for the upstart. Fighting off Unger's chest, Gina wrestles the blonde's arms back by her biceps, swiping cheap shots across Deborah’s face and clinching her up to slow the action. Gina going low - Deborah immediately responding to Gershon's trunks: Referee isn't needed as two hard bitten pros dispense a little working girl's justice out of mutual respect. Nasty round goes to Gina as she manages to crack Unger's icy composure at last.

R9: Gina getting right back on top, continues to bog Unger down, tying up the blonde's arms, palming her biceps back, digging to the body and breasts, and using her head hard against Deborah's mouth to keep Unger on her heels. Unger responding with a little elbow work inside, cutting Gina's lower lip. Midway through the round, both girls step back, fire left hooks and DOWN GOES DEBORAH! Unger scooting to her butt, felled by a perfect whip action left and Gershon licks her lip, nodding. Hammer and tongs the rest of the way as the girls wade in and trade combinations, crowd on it's feet as fists fly back and forth in a blur.

R10: Deborah stops the brunette's momentum in the opening moments of this round, stepping back, walking Gina into tight right hand uppercuts, pivoting to the left, and luring Gina forward for more punishment. Gershon out of her game, gets desperate and she never gets the initiative back. With Gina reaching and lunging, a calm, cool and collected Deborah Unger picks her apart, countering with brilliant chopping right hands or left hooks, pivoting around her lead foot to either side, steering GG around the ring. At the final bell - Unger with a bellow lifts her mitts and exhorts the crowd. It's official, unanimous duke Deborah Unger.



After: Gina Gershon in denial at the announcement, beautiful face puffy and sore, classic lips swollen - she's taken a career beating from a huge underdog tonight. Highlight reel stuff from Unger, who puts in a Winky Wright like performance, stealing the limelight and leaving Gershon a devastated loser facing plenty of doubts going forward.
