Paramount Middleweight Title Bout

Before: Procession of trainers through the Page camp as Kim continues to confound her handlers. Attempts to make her a boxer or learn some defense meet with resistance as Page generally reverts to mindless brawler in her fights. Comes into the night smaller, but harder than the champ - even though Shields looks in terrific shape in this rare defense. Lime sports bra, black boy cut swim bottoms, black shoes for Kim, black beach volley ball bikini, slick braid, black shoes for Brooke.

During 1,2: Shields spends six minutes bodying up, walking Kim to the ropes, tying the valet's muscular arms up, pushing her into the ropes, and only on rare occasions offering a punch in the menu. Brooke frustrating and tiring the smaller woman with these tactics, and heavy clubbing blows to the biceps reveal Shields' intentions to make this a grinding war of attrition. Both rounds shutouts for the champ.

R3: Page bulled into the ropes again for much of the round, but both girls a little more active as punches are exchanged. On her heels, Page can't get good leverage, but she finds Brooke's face with the jerking right uppercut, while Brooke continues to club away at the arms and body of her challenger. Round to Brooke.

R4: Page looking winded, confused as Brooke swarms her again, using a front choke to back Kim to the ropes, then palming the Valet's body and hips to set her up for big swinging lefts and rights that bash against Paige's sides. Paige tries to answer back but gets caught a shivering right hand in the sternum and goes to one knee in agony. Shields patiently pacing as Page is administered the 8 count, then she wades back in, Kim sucking wind and sitting on the ropes. Brooke bludgeoning her girl to the arms, then plowing that right hand to the stomach, and Page looks sick, pushing her hands out feebly and a gorgeous uppercut jams back her face, dropping her to all fours. Once again Page takes 8, now glassy eyed as Brooke wades in again. All Shields to the bell as she puts her body on Kim, drives her into the ropes, then clubs and swipes with grizzly bear shots to the flanks to the bell. Page gets the riot act in her corner -she's barely moved her hands in this fight and Brooke is eating her up.

R5: Impassioned pleas work as Kim comes out fired up, getting off first, and leaning into an impressive forearm shiv to Brooke's sternum to get the big girl moving backward. Page using elbows and crotch taps inside bunches Brooke up in pain, and she pushes the big girl by the arms to the ropes for a club down of her own. Shields no good on her heels, big arms up, hands covering her face as Paige spreads her feet, and HURLS hard punches to the ribs of the champs. Round ends as Brooke sags forward, Kim leaning in, pumping lefts and rights into the girls stomach as the bell rings.

R6: Brooke backing off now, trying to establish the jab, and she busts open Kim's lip in the first minute as Page tries unsuccessfully to walk through it. Shields coasting, picking up Kim with the left hand, but late in the round, Page fakes left and comes over the top with a crashing right that jerks Brooke around and stuns the big girl. Shields panicky, slapping lefts and rights as she fades to the ropes, and Page coming on like an animal, wind milling her punches as she comes. Brooke hitting the ropes hard, turns sideways and bends over, laying against the middle strand and grimacing - Page riding her right hand over the big girl's pale lower back, anchors Brooke for drifting left hands in the side of the head - Page just driving in the punches AND BROOKE GOES DOWN! Shields crying, can't get off her knees and Kim Page records the brutal KO6!

After: Brooke won the wrestling match, but when Kim started firing this one was history. Politics and filibuster can't save Shields' title as Page lifts it in violent fashion. Thin talent pool in the big girl ranks - a heavy handed slugger like Page could own the gold for a while.
