Before: Long layoff for Underwood, but she hasn't been idle: Carrie a fixture at the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Sparring Facility - a place well known for it's celebrity ties (Ali Landry known for using the DCC facilities to stay sharp)...Underwood looking fit and combative for Shakira. "It's been a long journey," Carrie admits in prefight. "I know I'm too young and pretty to be sitting on the sidelines, but I took hard beats early in my career and wanted to be better. I'm Carrie 2.0 now guys. I'm a blonde girl you can put in with a Lucy Hale or Rachel Bilson and get a great fight out of it - not just a one-sided wipe out. Shakira's a great test for me - a new debut if you will. She hits hard, she's a demon on offence...I know I'll have to be sharp to get her!"

During R1: Shakira quickly at Carrie with a stabbing left while holding the right hand very high...Shak lunging in off her jab with sweeping palm-down hooks/chopping right hands. Carrie pelted in the first engagement, wisely scooting to her right to regroup: long-time Underwood fans will note the more polished, hopping footwork. Carrie spooked out of positions however - Shakira pouncing forward, swinging hard...first two minutes clearly all about Colombian pursuit. Down the stretch, neat little check-hook-and-pivot routine puts Shakira on her ass...she bounces right back up, pushing against ref to continue, but just like that: clever Carrie's nipped the round 10-8.

R2: Knockdown changes everything: now it's Carrie dictating pace and terms midring. Underwood pivoting clockwise around a pinpoint jab and quick-twitch shoulder-feints...she's got Shakira's head kicking back from poke early. Pik...pik-pik...Carrie turning Shakira's right flank, touching her at length: when Shakira charges in, Underwood flurries tummy and tits hup-hup-hup, flurrying-with aggressive Colombian, then tying Shakira up for ref's break. That's the gist of it - Shakira unhurt but well-managed by Carrie through 2.

R3: Better pressure from Shakira breaks Carrie's stance down...Underwood forced into ropes, where she elects to engage in dangerous slugging-trade. Carrie getting tagged as she tries to chop side to side power shots with rapid-firing Shakira...Underwood pasted about both jawlines, then getting her tits lit up hup-hup-hup as Shak crowds close. Shakira pushing off Carrie's ribcage to reset...little Colombian bobbing in her stance, fetching Carrie vicious hooks to jaw by straightening up and twisting torso-right. Underwood getting the worst of it, but showing good conditioning: she's taking Shakira's power, then having the presence of mind to cover up, roll in the pocket - doing little things to blunt Shak's advantage. Good Colombian round regardless: she stays atop her blonde, puts good leather on Carrie through 3.

R4: Same again only more and better from Shakira. Spitting jabs rush Carrie to ropes: this time she's just not able to offer back as Shakira revs up the tempo. It's Shak on Underwood violence bell to bell - Carrie covering up tight earmuff, dipping and twisting in the pocket as Shakira bounces bombs off blonde-girl. Shakira using left shoulder/extended left elbow to push Carrie off, then licking her waist saucy hooks/lashing right hands. Shak pumping at the breasts hup-hup-hup - punching her way through Carrie's guard with pursed-lip aggression. Clobbering wallops pelt away head-and-shoulders on Carrie: she's riding this out, but it's all adding up...Underwood trembling, wobbly-butt at bell.

R5: Carrie shows composure after receiving an ass-kicking: she gets back to her fight plan, initiating turning-battle midring. Shakira a constant menace up the middle, attempting to rush Carrie to ropes, but Underwood pivoting clockwise around pre-emptive jabs plays matadora - touching and turning her girl. By the midway point, Shakira's frustrated, velocity slowing...she's showing mitts-at-cheeks, trying to bob-step her way inside, but Carrie's got all the answers. Underwood spitting her jab to mark Shak outside, chipping away at Colombian pate; taking a little half-step back as Shakira's coming in, walking Colombian into tasty check-hooks to jaw while pivoting clockwise round Shak's right shoulder. Spicy left hand technique enough to win Carrie a shutout, but she's not content with that - mixing in the odd straight right hand between Shakira's eyes, knocking Colombian noggin back with authority.

R6: Little bit of pressure from Shakira early, but Carrie sidesteps it, jabbing Shak gradually into compliance. After first minute, it's sullen Shak mitts-at-cheeks following Carrie around - Underwood just jab-jabbing, dropping in hot right crosses - extending on her punches to Shakira's pate. Underwood showing even more variety - featuring a nice little left uppercut to chin as she's pivoting clockwise...Shakira munching punches, crouching after the fact...Carrie's timing and footwork generally keeping her safe from Colombian aggression. Bell: Carrie flashing a winsome smile to her corner all pretty and confident; Shak scowling, touched up and frustrated despite still having plenty in the tank.

R7: Shakira unleashes, throwing herself at Carrie's front: Underwood can't handle the blitz, so she bails, leading to a frenetic, but largely unproductive round for both girls. Shakira irresistibly violent, but too wild: time and again she rushes past as Carrie sidesteps - whirling Colombian fists missing the mark. Still, Shak's the clear aggressor, putting Carrie into full retreat, but Underwood avoiding the haymakers, letting Shakira spend energy. Bell: Shakira breathing hard with little to show for her ferocity; Carrie's lost the round, but corner acknowledges her good decision-making during the break.

R8: Back to Underwood pecking away on Shakira midring. Jab...jab...jabjab...right hand...hook-and-pivot clockwise. Carrie pinging away at range, bouncing hands off Shakira's face, turning her right flank. Shak still game to lunge for Carrie at times - pounding a hard right roundhouse to flank, but taking a nipping little right uppercut counter in receipt. Carrie manages these little Shakira uprisings with harsh counterpunching followed by frisky jabbing...Underwood never destabilized for long by Colombian surges.

R9: Is Shakira wearing down? Shak advancing, but without penetrative velocity: she's easy pickin's now for Carrie's accurate left jab. Underwood circling clockwise, opens up the entire playbook - controlling distance via the jab; picking Shak up left uppercuts-and-pivots or left hook-and-pivots, never standing right in front of the Colombian brawler. Shak no longer deploying her swinging right, so Carrie's keeping her own right parked at cheek, but down the stretch, Shakira's guard's loose, so Carrie steps in to flurry the jugs hup-hup-hup. Shak grimacing, backed onto her heels for the first time...Carrie cleans up every scrap of jug she can get in the final 10 seconds. Bell: crowd-chants "LET'S GO CARE-IE (clap clap clapclapclap)"...nothing like a deliberate jug-mugging to get the mob on your side. Carrie waves, smiles to the crowd en route to corner.

R10: Shak still relatively fresh - Carrie hasn't touched the body much - but Colombian morale desperately low after so many good Underwood minutes...Carrie sees the frustration, goes right after Shak this round. Underwood jab-jabbing; committing the right cross to chin - staying inside with weight on left (front) leg, crouching, then digging her left uppercut to Shakira's midsection! Shak groaning, giving ground...her front's collapsing as Carrie goes to body. Underwood stalking - touching Shak one-two up top to get guard-high, then rip-digging left hands to body - really snatching hooks and uppercuts off firm Colombian midsection. Midway through - Shak at ropes, hands high: Carrie dips in low and close, PUMPS that left hand up and into breadbasket; PUMPS the right hand - blonde girl bouncing both mitts off Shakira's core, ejecting Colombian mouthpiece as Shak sits in ropes hurrrt! Clean up from there: Shak's curvy legs hold her up, but she's sagging ropeside behind a loose earmuff - job of work for Carrie to scrub left or right uppercuts to face; pound right hands off Shak's ribs; hook cheek, then double the left hand into sneaky uppercuts to chin, punching Shakira sleepy. Bell: Carrie's colour high, chest heaving...she can't put Shak down, but Underwood's grinning regardless with a well deserved UD10 duke.

After: Carrie Underwood 2.0 indeed: time at the DCC sparring center has the country-western singer looking sharp, at least against a walk-in free-swinger like Shakira. "I felt great," Carrie says, face all fresh and sweaty after a hard-working dime. "Had some dicey spots early, but I didn't panic...I knew if I could get her fighting my fight, I'd be okay. There's definitely a new blonde girl at 110, and her name's Carrie Underwood! I know I can throw a wrench into a few plans - just gotta get the right girls in the ring and go to work!"
