Before: Scrappy veterans lace 'em up for what should be a hungry encounter as long as it goes. Both girls have boiled themselves down to 110 to plunder the fiesty but underpowered Fly ranks - come fight time both should be fighting comfortably as bantams. Pressure's on Delany to come through - Lane's HBO ties are solid win or lose - Dana risks going back to fighting dinner theater with a loss. Dana in pink push up, black velvet boycut trunks, Lane in navy sports bra, red aerobics trunks.

R1: Girls lock up shoulder to shoulder, right mitts at cheeks, left hands across tummies as hooks chop back and forth into bodies. Competitive round, but Lane with a little step over after punching keeps fresh angles, staying in constant contact to scrub up Dana's trunkline. Delany happy to oblige inside, but she gets outworked this round.

R2: Dana pops it outside, looking to work off her jab, and once again Lane gets the better of her. Diane moving her guard to her temples, stepping forward and cranking hard hooks, dropping the tough jab from the elbow in a hammering motion, and backing Delany up. Double D not hurt, but she's backing off, looking for spots while Lane keeps punching, walking forward. Shutout Lane.

R3: Girls basically standing toe to toe, rotating midring, hooking off the jab and jerking straight right hands at close range. Lane just busier, pumping both fists to the body, turning over a clapping hook on the jaw, and spiking the right hand straight down the pike to bash face. Delany wearing down from Lane's pressure, starts to look more defensive this round, bending at the waist, stepping back, trying to walk Di into something. Down the stretch, Double D takes a half step back, fade the jab and cracks a straight right hand over Lane's left shoulder to put wobble in the champs trunks. Lane stepping in fence post holes - Delany gets on the board with power as she walks the brunette down to the bell.

R4: Lane shaking it off and uptempoing - hammer and tongs action goes Barrera/Morales as the crowd roars. Girls taking turns spanking 2 and 3 punch combinations in straight licks off one another's faces or chests - hard, bashing blows that are starting leave a mark. Early give and take evolves into Lane punishing Delany all around the ring - she's catching Dana with a short jab to the lips - just a timing tap, but it's setting Delany up for nastier hooks and crosses that often leave the challenger staring. Down the stretch it's all Lane, opening up on Delany and pounding her pillar to post - Dana with her right tight at her cheek, bending left and right but unable to slip all of the damage, finally hits a turnbuckle hard and covers up to take a beating. Lane with a savage barrage to finish the round, leaves Delany trembling - Di glaring, nodding in satisfaction at the pain on Dana's face.

R5: Dana discouraged outside by Lane's nonstop aggression, tries to take it back inside, but once again the champ has the answers. Lane modifying her guard, dropping the left hand to put the shoulder against the redhead, working the bump-and-shoot to perfection as she clouts Dana's face and waist with swatting hooks. Delany laying inside, really frustrated, getting pelted, touched up to the body and head. Another round goes to Lane as Dana slumps in her corner, breathing hard.

R6: Dana goes to the body again, looking to crowd, and she gets methodical chewed up this round as Lane fights with almost mystical poise. Diane always taps the jab to Diane's face as the girls fall in - Delany bodying up defensive as a result, Lane getting off first and last in most of the exchanges. Double D has her moments, and she's scoring heavily to the midriff - but Lane always storms back after any Delany moment - Dana getting punished, retreating one step at a time around the ring - Lane just using her opponent up inside and out.

R7: Midring - Lane outhustling her foe - Delany covering up in close, elbows in tight as Di gets off with workmanlike 3 punch bursts. Double D retreats to the ropes, curling little right uppercuts into Di's breasts in between salvoes - Lane's the boss. Dana ropeside goes into counterpunch mode, dipping down, coming up with little lefts and rights up into the breasts - Lane working to the sides ignores the touches as both girls lather up. Midway through, Dana lifts a right mitt (all shoulder) into Lane's bra, then twists her torso to clout a short left hook to the chin - LANE IS HURT! Diane staggered, stops punching as a weary Dana stays calm, still keeping the tight form and repeats the process - a little stuffing touch to the chest, a cranking, very short left hand on the teeth with plenty of leg and body behind it and LANE GOES OUT! Diane spilling face first past Dana, lolls in the ropes, staring helplessly out at a shocked audience as Delany staggers away. KO7 Dana Delany - counted as Diane pathetically tries to climb the ropes to get off her knees.

After: Shattering turn around leaves Diane Lane beltless and broken as Dana Delany goes to plan C for victory. Delany beaten inside and out, remembered her good work off the ropes against Bedelia and employed the same counterpunching technique to stun a brunette champion who was well ahead on all cards at that point. "Three Plans" Delany an X factor for the networks - cryptic answers in postfight shed no light on the new champ's grand designs.
