Boxing After Dark

Before: (Santiago can be seen as the lead in "Queen of Swords" - 5'8" long black hair - fairly believable kick-butt latina action star).
Billed as Sheena vs the Queen of Swords - cigar chomping studio fatcats have fun with the throwback style of promotion - harkening to the golden age of cinema - both girls attending pre-fight conferences in costume. Focus of promotion is all Gena - she destroyed the Relic Hunter, and now she turns her gaze on the strapping young queen with similar results anticipated. Santiago shouldn't be overlooked however - Gena a little brawnier overall, but Tessie won arguably the toughest fighting audition ever held for a television role to become the QoS - virtually unknown in anglo circles, the stylish cuban-American has been compared to a young Eva Larue and can definitely fight. Nolin can't afford to take the brunette lightly. Tessie in red jockey two piece cottons, Gena Lee in pale blue bikini top, sturdy yellow bottoms. Small gloves for both - generally considered an edge for Nolin.

R1: Tessie showing crisp form early - gloves at her cheeks, she wheels into position, jabbing sharply to Gena's eye, then returning her mitt to her guard to back Nolin to the ropes. Squaring up, Santiago dips side to side, snapping lefts and rights down underneath Gena's protective elbows - always bringing the fist back up to her face as she works. Nolin clearly surprised - it's been a long time since anyone's gone to her stomach like this. Tessie pushes up with her guard against Gena's raised gloves in between punching - setting a nice workmanlike rhythm. Final minute: Gena avoids the shutout, curling punches in around the wrists to stroke Tessie's jawline at the bell. Round to Santiago - wake up call for Nolin.

R2: Gena opens with nasty clinching, nearly popping Tessie's elbow and bulling the latina into the ropes to make her feel the weight. Santiago composed, but this is Gena Lee boxing - clubbing punches in the clinch, a little tap on the crotch with Gena's body blocking the ref - it's all good. Santiago endures, and in the final minute, she gets back into Gena's face, ripping punches from that tight guard posture, fitting punches perfectly into Nolin's firm ab region - Gena folding to the ropes with a concerned look - Tessie's hurting her. Suddenly coming off the body, Tessie plants a postcard left hook on the chin, stepping away and GENA GOES DOWN! Nolin stunned, on all fours shakes her head in disbelief and gets shakily to her feet as the bell sounds.

R3: Nolin out determined - her flat footed, pantherish stalking - Tessie's more straight up and down posture, up on her toes, gloves at her cheeks - girls circle warily and slowly spiral in together. Nolin sweeping the right hand heavily against the brunette's body, then bending away, loading up and potshotting effectively this round. Tessie poking out the jab, staying well covered up - it's a close tactical round, but Gena's the aggressor throughout.

R4: Similar look and feel - Gena stalking, crouching, more supple in her approach - Tessie using the jab, stepping away when things look dangerous - Nolin still wary of that hook doesn't press with the result that there's a lot of posing, posturing this round. Nolin once again making the fight, wins the round - she's slowly getting a read on her foe.

R5: Gena slugging with gusto, leads with her chest and slings underhand lefts and rights to the gut as she bulls Tessie to the ropes. Crude attack is effective - Santiago a little busted up and Nolin goes grimly to work, using that left arm to cradle Tessie around the neck or body, anchor the brunette for punches and the occasional elbow across the mouth or sternum. Referee pushing the girls apart and issuing stern finger waggles - Santiago bleeding from a cut lower lip. Down the stretch, Tessie gets off the ropes with a nice spin move, jabbing as she turns - puts Gena's back to the ropes. Nolin covering her face defensively and Santiago cranks it up - a crashing hook rocks the blonde, then another and a third hook breaks Gena's defense down, spilling her stunned into the corner. Tessie tuning Gena up at the bell with straight punching lefts and rights, fists pounding away at the offered breast and face as Nolin stares back in stupor. Tessie steals a Nolin round, leaves Gena shellshocked on the turnbuckle - Gena staggery, panicky in her corner as Tessie refuses to falter.

R6: Tessie continues to apply pressure from that tight stance, legs wheeling her into position, jabs issuing forth in straight licks, then side to side dipping sets up biting rips to the muscular tummy of a hurting Gena Lee. Tessie so economical - she bumps up against Gena with her guard against Nolin's as the girls lean forward, then comes off the bump to tap the body. Nolin cringing, grunting as the stomach work starts to add up - and those lashing left hooks upside the head are wearing Gena out. Nolin responding late with short right hands, all shoulder, delivered straight into the stomach have Santiago backing up at the bell.

R7: Gena clinching, then reaching behind Tessie to tug that long black hair, pulling the latina's head back, and turning her as the ref jumps in. Nolin ignores the warning, climbs back into Santiago's trunks, and it's sloppy holding and hitting around the ring as Gena swipes opportunistic rights to the jugs and face while cradling Tessie close. Girls stagger around the ring in one another's arms - Gena finally getting Tessie to break form and slug in wide open action - Nolin getting the better of it, starts to find chin with her sailing right hands. Down the stretch, Nolin sweeps a looping overhand right past Tessie's outstretched left hand, spanking face and sending the latina reeling to the ropes. Bell sounds before Gena can follow up - but Tessie's glassy eyed, hurt for the first time in the fight.

R8: Tessie recovering beautifully - legs aren't quite there, but she maintains her tight guard, spits out jabs to keep Gena honest, and holds her own in the clinches as Nolin repeatedly jumps in. Santiago breaking Nolin down to the body - every engagement ends with Tessie digging sharp lefts and rights to the belly, forcing Nolin into groaning retreat. Gena grimacing, complaining in her corner during the break - she's getting slowly but surely worked over in this one.

R9: Classic Gena Lee. Grabbing a left mittful of Tessie's cotton bra top - Nolin pushes Santiago to the ropes, holds her steady and starts pounding home fight winning right hands to the brunette beauty's stunned face. Tessie leaning slightly over the ropes, hands pulling helplessly at Gena's left arm - head jerking back, then snapping forward again for the next rivetting punch as Gena keeps those right hands short and sweet. Sick cracking impacts send Tessie into a swoon and FINALLY the ref steps in - Santiago busted up, cut over both eyes and mouthing nonsensical protests - she's in trouble. Nolin with that trademark dolphin grin starts the patient work of walking her girl down and beating her numb. Tessie staggering, bra top all crumpled - she huddles forward, taking pounding abuse to her sides and across her back. Nolin lets it all hang out - bombing Tessie to the brink of collapse - but the tough latina finishes the round on her feet and is quickly led to her corner for resuscitation. Nolin breathing hard - she's got 3 minutes to stop her brunette opposition - corner tells her she needs the knockout.

R10: Gena delivers, coming forward in that predatory crouch, sweeping overhand rights, twisting into wrap around lefts - Santiago windblown across the ring as she struggles to maintain her form in the face of the storm. It's good Nolin pressure - but not great - Tessie's body work has taken it's toll on Gena's legs and although she's connecting - Santiago's taking the punishment well. By the final minute, it's Tessie starting to come back - bouncing that jab hard off Gena's eye, going to the body as the blonde sags forward to clinch around the arms. Fight ends with Gena hanging limply off the brunette, mouth open as Tessie pumps dutiful lefts and rights into the breadbasket. Decision comes back a shocker: A one point decision for Tessie Santiago!

After: Nolin in a daze at the announcement - face all puffy, stomach glistening pink, body aching from the constant bombardment - it's the kind of beating Gena hasn't experienced since making her comeback. Fiesta breaks out in the ring as Tessie is hoisted high on the shoulders of her cornermen - salsa music blaring as Santiago cries emotional tears of joy. She took it to Gena's body, knocked Gena down, hurt her repeatedly, and didn't lose her poise during Nolin's many offensive surges. Great upset win for Santiago the kind of thing that gets other blondes interested - Tessie's people starting to sift through the offers even at ringside.
