Before: Berry doing some sparring with Charisma C to get her ready for Ali Larter: Halle apparently looking so good in those sessions, that this fight was immediately secured. “It happened pretty quick, and I’m PUMPED yo be back in the ring,” Berry beams. “I’m heavier—I’m comfy with a small—some would say ‘squat’—lightweight like Jen. I mean—I’m coming to fight with womanly curves and I don’t want to have to starve down to make weight if it’s not necessary. I feel good, I feel sharp, and I’m jazzed to show Jen what I can still do.” Lopez coming off a lackluster effort—she knows what the Halle Berry name can mean to a promotion. “When they floated the fight. I was like ‘hell yeah’—you know? Coming off a loss, this is a perfect bout for me: a huge name with faded skills and a fabulous body that to be perfectly frank—looks a little soft to me. Time to get back on track with Halle!” Berry in tangerine dream 007 bikini; white gloves. Jennifer in shades-of-green striped bikini top; orange bottoms; black gloves; blonde-coloured hair in slick low ponytail.

During R1: Halle mobile—but constantly on the move: she’ll bounce to spots, set down, time Jen coming in. Berry with the right elbow tucked in tight at her ribs—right hand up around her mouth: left hand loose, limber at the hip. Jen walking Halle down: chin tucked, left across her body; right under her chin as she bobs/weaves/steps forward. Easy, breezy shutout, Halle: she lured Jen to spots; beats her to the punch with quick flurries; sidestep/pivots away from hard as Jen’s covered up.

R2: Jen upping the pace a bit—jabbing on approach: she’s able to thump hooks against Halle’s right side (blocked by Berry’s well-tucked elbow). Halle retreating, chopping out pesky lead rights, then looking to swipe hooks off the back (right) foot as she can backpedals. Minute and a half in—Jennifer reaches in, pushes Halle to ropes, then smites her jugs a rousing, rising left/right: Berry enraged, bares her teeth and answers back a blistering 6 punch flurry to Jennifer’s breasts, beating Lopez back all covered up and confused. Brief taste of fury seems to renegotiate all terms: Halle the aggressor from then on—stalking Lopez patiently, touching her the jab, then tidying her up crisp-swiping rights and lefts in tandem. Jennifer unable to come forward, not comfortable backing up or getting turned: she’s dusted for more points through 2.

R3: Midring—Halle with initiative: she’s circling left, pivoting around that front (Left) foot-in-a-bucket. Halle thoughtful, patient—pawing her jab at times, touching Jen on her mitts, then suddenly snapping it to Latina forehead. Halle darting in with stiff jabbage to tummy—poking Jen hard, then jumping back out of range: Halle’s jugs a-jumpin’ whenever she makes about moves. She’s feinting Jen, getting her to lean forward, then bouncing hard lead right hands off the cranium: Jennifer’s legs give repeated shimmies, and she’s not answering them accurate. Drilling locks. On the few occasions Jen gets inside—she’s reaching around Halle’s back to clinch. Berry impressing some insiders by walking Jen to ropes in the clinch—or even reversing position in the clinch when SHE’S on the ropes—showing tremendous leg and glute strength in muscling Lopez around. Bell: Lopez downcast, facing lumping up nicely from accurate Berry combinations—she’s a little discouraged through 3.

R4: Midring: Halle continues to dress Jennifer up. Berry making no mistakes—pivoting/circling to her left (away from Jen’s monster hook); dictating pace and range, keeping Jen off balance with the jab; footwork; pre-emptive combinations. Lopez sluggish—blocking shots by crossing her arms, creeping forward while bobbing and weaving: she’s letting Halle get off first and pick away outside. More alarming for Jlo fans—whenever the girls cuddle-up inside. It’s HALLE who’s working—tearing away with flashy, curling rights and lefts in rising arcs—just tattooing Jennifer’s crowd-pleasing torso. Halle landing the odd very stiff clout: Jen frequently staggered, forced to rebalance herself. Bell: Jen scowling, moping en route to her corner; Halle repressing a little squeal of delight as she’s really having it all her own way.

R5: Midring: Halle pings out of a few nuisance jabs, getting Jen to cover up: Halle drops in the short right off her shoulder; follows up a pair of snappy hooks off the front (left) foot up top, then drips her left shoulder and lashes a whippy hook HARD and LOUD behind Jen’s right elbow, Halle pivots left, leaning back out of range with a sexy grin: Lopez huffing and puffing, trying to make sense of it all, follows the turn with a desperation hook, Off the Lopez missed left—Halle leans in and chops a short lead tight clean to cheek; little left uppercut tucks in to Jen’s chin as Halle’s got weight on front (left) foot: Lopez punched up out of her crouch, stumbles a few wobbly-butt paces backward, blinking in wonder. On and on like that—Berry luring Jen forward, tidying up on her, turning her left flank, then starting all over again. Jennifer busting up:  she blocking a fair amount of shots, but clean body blows are slowing her head movement, making her increasingly available. Chalk up another shutout, Halle Berry.

R6: Midring, Halle brisk, ringing crisp rights and lefts off Jennifer’s crossed-arm guard, then SCORCHING Lopez that forget-me=not hook in the ribs while pivoting left. Lopez turns, crouching, eats jabs: Halle sprucing Jlo up while sliding back just a smidge, changing up distance to take away Jen’s hook. Berry very supple on her hips now—loose and relaxed in front of a dangerous puncher: Halle tilting side to side with swiping offense, punching off either foot with slick agility—flesh of her breasts, tummy and backside all jiggling pleasantly as she nears her foe. Poor Jen just can’t pull the trigger: she’s pre-empted, scrubbed and bumped—and when she DOES get off—Halle’s already out of the sweet spot. Jennifer reaching around Halle’s back to clinch: Berry digging in and walking Jen to ropes fir the break—Halle’s glutes ringing with triumph with every pin down, Bell: More toothy grins from animated Halle: puffy, sullen looks from Lopez who endures yet another shutout.

R7: Halle elects to push-in, deliberately fighting Jennifer shoulder to shoulder in order to up the rate of attrition. Lopez scoring as a result—bumping her left shoulder/extended left elbow against Halle’s chest to set up thumping hooks to waist, Berry teeth-bared, responds in kind—often doubling up the hook in close to tear at Jen’s tummy and tits. Flat footed, fronting stuff—lots of pushing and bumping in there as the girls writhe for advantage, Halle simply better: hooks are about even, but Berry’s right uppercuts tap away consistently to chin inside, loosening Jen’s knees and costing her another round.

R8: Halle’s move insider last round pays real psychological dividends this round as deeply demoralized Jen doesn’t seem to want anymore. Lopez shying away—losing on the outside, losing in the inside—she’s trying to regroup, get hers back, but Halle won’t have it. Berry still cautious—walking Jen down, then jabbing at her body and head before attempting anything further. Lopez breaking down—eventually punched up against the ropes and battered as Halle lets hands go. Jen proving durable: she absorbs a terrible pasting about two minutes in--then crosses her arms, stoops forward with her butt-in ropes and stays dug-in. Halle working Jen iver down the stretch: vicious clawing hooks off the front foot gnaw at Jen’s body and right hip—occasionally curling to catch her overhanging face. 8 in the bank for Halle as Lopez wanders wobbly-butt to her stool.

R9: More punishment for Jlo: Halle increasingly brave. Halle with pinging, elastic combinations outside gets Jen to cover up, then Berry fearlessly reaches in under Lopez’s arms to fight off Jens chest. Halle mouth-on-shoulder at times, getting off rapid fire combos to Jen’s gut—bumping Jen off with the left shoulder, then hooking her chin as she’s staggering back, Halle walking Jen down—punching relentlessly at her outside—then edging in to continue punishing her Latina at close quarters. Down the stretch, Jen ragged, stumbling away from Berry all bleak and battered: Berry extends on a lunging hook from long distance, clouting Jen’s face as Lopez is retreating and SITTING JLO DOWN at the ropes! Jen sitting upright, kegs in a wide V before her, hands in lap: she’s just a battered beauty at this point, unable to comprehend what’s being done to her.

R10: Lopez’s people admonishing her to throw in the towel: puffy-faced, half-awake vixen mumbles her denial—fighting her way up off her stool to continue. Halle loving it inside with Jen—reaching in to walk her back: in the clinches, it’s like Halle’s glutes are conquering Jen’s as Berry routinely dictates position. Halle leaning in to trade with Jen: Lopez getting off, now finding a good right uppercut to the midsection to compliment her hook—but where was it earlier? Halle still quicker-mitted—tic-tac-toeing her way up and down Jen’s torso—occasionally lighting Jen up right uppercuts to face close-in. Final minute—Halle has Jen slumped in ropes: robust burst of lefts and rights detonates off Jennifer’s midsection and face, stunning her, slumping her loose into ropes, Light dimming in Jen’s eyes—she tries to earmuff up, but a vicious Berry combination to the head ounches the guard apart, swiveling Latina noggin, Crowd screaming—Halle’s body humming as she pours in finishing leather: poor Jen ships a grim shellacking as she goes the route, denying Halle satisfaction at the bell, Comes back UD10—10 rounds to 0 Halle freakin’ Berry!

After: Jennifer led away band immediately cared for: physically dismantled, emotionally distraught—she suffers one if the worst beatings of her career tonight, and quite possibly eats the Beating of the Year in the bargain. Berry giddy in contrast: written-off by most serious pundits, she posts a brilliant effort against a dangerous (though made-to-order) opponent. “Oh man—I’ve got goosepimples!” Halle breezes in postfight. “Oh man—that was great. I just felt it from the first round, you know? This girl was too slow for me; this girl was too basic—I knew I’d beat her in the clinches—but her legs aren’t the best. I was able to muscle-up on her, push her around, keep her off her game, I outclassed her early, just kept my distance and boke her down—but when I came inside on her? She was like ‘uh-oh’—you know? I broke her heart when I pushed in—she didn’t know what to do about that.” Great effort from an overlooked A-lister: we just might see that long-discussed Eva Mendes/Halle Berry fight after all.
