BEFORE:

"Yeah, I've been hearing all about how Perry's some big deal now," says Katharine with a shake of the head. "But, she looks the same to me, a girl who can be beaten."

"McPhee's got size and power," says Katy with a nod. "So did Upton. Let's see if Kat's chin is as strong as Kate's."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside and you're hearing 'Touch Me', by the lovely young lady coming down to the ring, the talented Katharine McPhee of the Diamond Boxing Club!"

McCarthy: "More Weirdo booking. A kid making her second FCBA appearance against a girl who's been fighting for over three years and has twenty fights..."

Tess: "McPhee is new to the FCBA, but she's hardly a kid. She's eight months older than Perry..."

Cassie: "And still about a THOUSAND months younger than Mac..."

McCarthy: "She is NOT! A thousand months is like 30 years or something!"

Cassie: "Or something..."

O'Dell(sighing): "This NIGHT is lasting about a thousand months. McPhee into the ring. Helped off with the robe to reveal a green and white striped two-piece that shows off an impressive body...and that's 'California Gurls' you hear and here comes 'The Santa Barbara Slugger', Katy Perry!"

Tess: "Katy getting a lot of attention these days. Then again, when you look like she does, you're probably used to getting a lot of attention..."

O'Dell: "Perry into the ring. Helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that red bikini she likes, and it's about time for some picks. Tess likes Katy in this one. Mac?"

McCarthy: "Like all the Dancing Hookers, Perry is overrated. But she's had 20 fights to McPhee's one. Even a Dancing Hooker finds a blind squirrel at midnight..."

Tess: "And that ROAR you hear is fingers hitting 'back' buttons all over North America..."

McCarthy: "What ARE you babbling about, Walmart?"

O'Dell(sighing): "Cassie?"

Cassie: "I agree with Tess. And I have no idea what Mac's talking about...which, of course, is not exactly news..."

O'Dell(sighing): "Why do I have the feeling YouTube is about to crash? There's the bell. Both ladies to the jab early, looking to work at range. McPhee double tapping the left while Katy's looking more to set up right hands."

McCarthy: "We've already had an upset with Perry jabbing. Weirdo keeps telling everyone she can box, but we never see any evidence of it."

O'Dell: "You're seeing it now, as Katy works combinations and shows that dancer's footwork her management always says she has...AND THERE'S A RIGHT HAND, PERRY AND MCPHEE IS HURT..."

Cassie: "Set that up with the left. McPhee moved the head to avoid the jab and caught the right for her troubles."

O'Dell: "Perry battering Katharine back into the ropes and banging away. Katy under control, but clearly looking to finish this thing early. McPhee in a high guard, jabbing back in spots, but mostly taking a licking both to the head and the body..."

McCarthy: "There's a second upset. Perry working body when she has a girl hurt."

O'Dell: "Katy getting off heavy shot to McPhee's ribs and belly, then coming back upstairs to punish a buzzed Katharine to the head. Final seconds tick off and there's the bell. Big opening round for Katy."

Tess: "Only 10-9, as Katharine kept her feet, but plenty of damage was done."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "Back to work in the second, and we're back to ranged warfare, with the ladies using the left hand to find the range and the right to follow on and do some damage. McPhee effective with the jab, finding the mark more in this round. Katy giving as well as she gets."

Cassie: "This is more good boxing from Perry. No question her corner has to be happy about what it's seeing."

O'Dell: "And McPhee's has to be happy with this round as well. Katharine moving the hands and feet very well. Not spooked by the power Katy showed last round. Getting as much work done as Perry in this stanza."

Tess: "You know, we need to mention just how well the Diamond Boxing Club's girls have fought tonight. A lot of new stables go through growing pains, but DBC's girls have looked good in all four fights to this point, and McPhee isn't doing anything to pull down the average."

O'Dell: "She is not. Katharine slowly gaining the advantage in this round. Getting to her spots and scoring well. Perry landing as well, but as the final seconds tick away, McPhee is pulling away to take round two. There's the bell and we're all tied up."

McCarthy: "19-19 through two. That big first round from Katy has been cancelled out."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Third begins with more fighting at range. Perry showing more movement now, working the left, angling, moving the hands and feet. Katharine trying to locate with the left and can't seem to do it. Katy ranging in with that jab, setting up good right hands, landing in combination, throwing McPhee onto the defensive..."

Cassie: "More good boxing from Perry. This is the best I've ever seen from her. The lessons may be sinking in."

O'Dell: "Katy certainly doing a lot of hitting and not getting hit. Putting her punches together very well. Katharine trying to fight in counter, but she's not finding the range. Perry a good left-right there. Got McPhee's attention with it. Backed her up a step."

Tess: "I'm with Cassie. This is a far different Katy Perry than the brawler we've seen so many times in the past. This is the fighter Front Street keeps telling us she can be..."

McCarthy: "Don't get carried away, Walmart. So she's boxing a little bit. She's not Adrianne Palicki or anything..."

O'Dell: "But she IS very effective. Perry in all the right spots, making McPhee miss, taking advantage of the openings when she does. Katy landing another good flurry as the final seconds tick away. There's the bell and it's a boxing shutout for Katy Perry, who now leads 29-28."

Tess: "I say again, this isn't the same fighter we've seen so may times in the past."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "Fourth round begins with a big exchange of punches! Both girls landed solid shot in that one. Perry follows with a flurry, and now McPhee fires back, and here we go!"

McCarthy: "So much for Perry the boxer."

O'Dell: "Katharine nails Katy with a good right hand and Perry bangs back! Landed a left hook in there that sent sweat flying! McPhee loads up on another straight right and Katy answers with a big right of her own! Nothing artful happening right now, as both ladies are looking to impose will physically and neither is willing to take a step back!"

Cassie: "These are two big, strong girls. Both of them are just as comfortable at welter as at light. And they are throwing some BOMBS right now."

O'Dell: "Indeed, they are. Katharine lands a solid right...AND KATY WOBBLES HER WITH A RIGHT HOOK! Perry sends McPhee stumbling back a couple of steps and now has her in full retreat! Perry driving Katharine back to the ropes and going to work just like she did in the first. McPhee covering up and taking a shellacking. Perry working body again. The two girls right above us and you can hear the leather banging off McPhee's ribs and lats. Katharine hanging on grimly, doing just enough to keep the referee at bay. And there's the bell! The fourth is over, and McPhee still on her feet."

Tess: "Give Katharine credit. She can take a punch. And Perry can give one. She's up 39-37 now through four."

ROUND FIVE:

O'Dell: "Fifth round underway and McPhee seems to have the legs back. Katharine moving well as we return to the ranged encounters. Kat trying to locate with the left. Managing to land some, but Perry back to movement and boxing, angling up, putting punches together."

Cassie: "Katy does have very quick feet, especially for a big girl, and she's making good use of them right now."

O'Dell: "McPhee using some good footwork of her own, banging out that long left and scoring some with it, but it's Katy who's putting punches together...AND ROCKING MCPHEE WITH A RIGHT HAND!"

McCarthy: "Excellent straight right. Worked it off the left jab."

O'Dell: "And we've seen this show before. Katy quickly backs Katharine to the ropes and goes to work. McPhee again in the high guard, putting the body on sale, and Katy's buying in bulk. Katharine crouching, tight elbows, trying to protect the body while keeping the gloves up. Perry makes her pay with an uppercut that sends sweat flying. McPhee again doing just enough to keep the referee at bay as Katy searches for the 'off' switch, but doesn't find it. There's the bell, and Katherine survives again!"

Tess: "Plenty of guts and grit from McPhee. But Perry's building a lead. 49-46 through five."

ROUND SIX:

O'Dell: "Sixth round begins with Perry moving forward. Katy looking to consolidate and finish. McPhee giving some ground as Katy advances behind that solid left...AND DOWN GOES KATHARINE!"

McCarthy: "Right hook. Spilled McPhee to her back!"

O'Dell: "Katy to a neutral corner. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. McPhee up at eight. Takes the mandatory and the referee going to allow it to continue. Katy quickly forward and NOW IN RETREAT IN FRONT OF A BLIZZARD OF PUNCHES FROM KATHARINE! McPhee all in after the knockdown, surprising Katy and driving her back into the ropes!"

Cassie: "Perry covering up now, playing this smart with the lead..."

O'Dell: "And Katharine taking full advantage, ringing Katy up along the ropes. McPhee landing some good right hands. She's got Perry buzzed as we come down the stretch..."

Tess: "We've talked about Katharine's grit all night, but this is something else, coming out firing off the deck like this..."

O'Dell: "And she's firing away right to the bell. There it is! The sixth is history, and Katy wins it with the early knockdown..."

McCarthy: "But, McPhee turns a 10-8 into a 10-9 with that rally. Katy up 59-55, but this is still in reach for Katharine."

ROUND SEVEN:

O'Dell: "We start the seventh with McPhee on the attack. Katharine now trying to consolidate and finish and she's got Katy in retreat immediately..."

McCarthy: "Perry's still buzzed and McPhee knows it."

O'Dell: "Katharine landing a solid combination that backs Perry up again. Katy thrown completely to the defensive as McPhee wings away with both hand. Perry tying up, but Katharine punches free and lands a hard right hand that backs Perry up again! McPhee turning up the heat, sensing a chance to finish this thing...AND DOWN GOES PERRY! OVERHAND RIGHT DROPS A WOBBLY KATY TO HER KNEES!"

Cassie: "Not so much one punch but the combined damage of a lot of punches..."

O'Dell: "Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Perry to her feet. Referee gives her the mandatory and here comes Katharine! McPhee backing Katy immediately against the ropes and going to work. Perry covering up, throwing the occasional jab, running clock with clinches. Katharine throwing everything at her trying to end this, but she can't. There's the bell and the seventh is over."

Tess: "But McPhee just cut the lead in half. It's 67-65 and she's right back in it despite having lost five of seven rounds."

ROUND EIGHT:

O'Dell: "The eighth begins with McPhee right back at Perry...and this time Katy's not giving ground! Instead Perry firing back and here we go, toe to toe big girl slugging..."

McCarthy: "THIS is what the fans expect when they pay to see a Katy Perry fight..."

O'Dell: "And they're seeing plenty of it now as Perry and McPhee are simply firing away at one another in the middle of the ring, neither willing to give an inch, neither willing to break the engagement..."

Cassie: "The engagement isn't what they want to break, Jenny, it's the other girl's will..."

O'Dell: "And neither Katharine nor Katy appears ready to break. Crowd getting into it in a big way as bombs are flying from all directions, both women landing solid shot and both taking the lickings and keeping on ticking..."

Tess: "Crowd on its feet as the bombs are just getting heavier..."

O'Dell: "Final 30 seconds and neither girl slowing down. Perry lands a solid right and McPhee took a step back! First one for either girl this round. Katharine a left, Katy ANOTHER big flurry! McPhee an answering right and there's the bell! Staredown!"

McCarthy: "I've been in a few of those, and what both pairs of eyes are saying is, to paraphrase Ali, 'Is that all you got, George?'"

O'Dell: "Great round. Perry with the advantage, I think..."

Tess: "Agreed, which puts her up 77-74 with two to go."

ROUND NINE:

O'Dell: "Ninth round begins with the ladies right back at one another. Perry landing a solid left-right, and McPhee countering with a good right hand..."

McCarthy: "Normally, I'd say Perry shouldn't be in there banging with a lead like she has, but, McPhee has been so aggressive in the second half of this fight that you've got to answer that..."

O'Dell: "And that's what Perry's doing, landing a solid left...RIGHT HAND, KATHARINE AND DOWN GOES KATY!"

Cassie: "THAT one was one punch. Overhand right. Timed it over the left hand."

O'Dell: "Perry dropped to hands and knees. Referee's count at three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Katy to her feet. Referee gives her the mandatory, going to let it continue, and here comes McPhee! Katharine batters Perry back into the ropes immediately and goes to work!"

McCarthy: "Perry in DEEP trouble here. DEEP."

O'Dell: "McPhee ROCKING Katy with a right hand. Perry is desperately hurt here! The referee looking closely as Katharine continues working for the stoppage along the ropes. Perry in a high, tight guard, trying to roll with the punches McPhee is bouncing off her gloves. Katharine splits them with a left that sends sweat flying! Katy grimly holding on as we head down the stretch. McPhee loading up on her punches, doing everything she can to take Perry out of here. Lands a big right hand that sends Perry wobbling along the ropes. Referee looking in again. Right hand, McPhee...and it's over! There's the bell and round nine comes to an end with Perry still on her feet."

McCarthy: "Barely."

Tess: "And, with the knockdown, Katharine's cut the lead to 85-84 with one round to go."

ROUND TEN:

O'Dell: "We're ready for the tenth and final of what's been an action-packed fight and there's the bell. McPhee right after Perry and Katy steps right up to Katharine and here we go! Perry NAILS McPhee with a right, and Katharine answers with a solid flurry! Katy ANOTHER good right hand, backed McPhee up a step, but Katharine responds with a good combination..."

Cassie: "The fans in this arena have gotten their money's worth in this fight alone..."

O'Dell: "And we're not done yet! Toe to toe again, the two big beauties slug it out. McPhee a good left-right, and Perry flurries back, landing a solid left hand amongst those punches. Again, both women looking to impose will and neither willing to give up an inch of canvas."

McCarthy: "No matter how this one comes out, McPhee's made a statement tonight. She's big. She's strong. She can take a punch and deliver one. This girl can be a factor in the FCBA no matter whether it's at light or welter..."

O'Dell: "And she's trying to do more than make a statement. She's trying to win this fight, emptying the tanks and magazines, firing everything she has at Perry, and Katy's doing likewise. Perry backs McPhee up another step, lands a solid combination and forces Katharine to cover up. Perry following up with a solid right that stung McPhee. Katy taking command of this thing down the stretch. Final seconds ticking away with Katy backing up Katharine with heavy leather. McPhee trying to counter, still game right to the final bell and there it is! And there's one of those hugs Mac hates so much..."

McCarthy: "Why don't we just not go to the cards and give everyone a trophy? What is this, some grade school field day? This is BOXING!"

O'Dell: "Yes, it is, and we ARE going to go to the cards. Decision coming back, and it's unanimous, 95-93 for your winner, 'The Santa Barbara Slugger', Katy Perry!"

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go to the ring and Tess Valmore!"

Tess: "I have our winner, Katy Perry, and, Katy, quite a fight tonight..."

Katy(still out of breath): "She's tough, Tess. No question. I hit her with some shots that would have put three quarters of the girls in the two big girl divisions down for the count, and she kept getting up. And she kept throwing bombs at me. But, I'm pretty tough, too. And she found that out."

Tess: "We saw a little different Katy in the first half of the fight, with a lot of movement and boxing..."

Katy(smiling): "Well, that's something my trainers have had me working on. It's another tool in my box, and it worked pretty well for me tonight."

Tess: "What's next for you? Are you concentrating at light or welter?"

Katy: "Neither. I'll go where the fights are. I'm quick enough for light and strong enough for welter, so it doesn't really matter."
