BEFORE: "My favourite fight of the last couple of years was Maria's destruction of Laura Vandervoort," Lawrence admits in prefight. "I love the way Maria gets after it; love how rangy-strong she is...but that approach is going to get her hurt in this fight. I've proven again and again that you can't go right at me. Maria's going to try to pressure me, work my body, and I'm going to batter her in exchange. Sucks for her, but I don't see any other outcome. This one's just math guys: if she fights her fight, she gets her fanny waxed; if she DOESN'T fight her fight, she gets her fanny waxed."

Menounos unconvinced...brunette ultra-confident in rebuttal. "Jenny's had a good little run," Maria allows at podium, "but what goes up, must come down. She hit a brick wall in losing her first title bid, and I think that really exposed her as a B+ fighter who happens to have A+ promotion behind her. Trouble is, management often makes promises their fighters can't keep, and I think that's what's going on here. Academy wants to keep Jen in the mix after that tough set-back, so they put her in hard with me, but all that's going to do is ruin their girl's already fragile confidence and badly bruised ego. She needs cupcakes and they're givin' her steak. Bad case of indigestion comin' up for JLaw, guys!"

During R1: Jen bobbin' and stalkin', right hand near her jaw, left hand hovering out front of her hip, held loose for a step-and-hook delivery. Menounos honoring Jen's thudding left-hand power by circling clockwise after being clouted up top...Maria either unable or unwilling to stand her ground when Jen steps-in. All Lawrence walking Maria down for 2 minutes, but down the stretch - Double-M times a nice step-in left uppercut to chin while blocking Jen's hook with a raised right hand...LAWRENCE GOES WOBBLY-BUTT! Jen staring, staggering back on her heels in alarm...Maria able to hop forward; whack that Oscar-winning gut a lanky right/left, then polish off the jugs a strapping hook, sending Jen reeling to ropes at bell. Big smile Maria M en route to her corner: she knows she just stole the first heat.

R2: Jen shakes off Maria's power, gets back to business with the same stalking approach. Lawrence bobbing, stepping, hurling hooks from the hip...big, whacking blasts up top shaking Maria, moving her to her left. Minute mark - Maria trying to jab-and-pivot to keep Lawrence off: Jen slips the poke, steps-and-hooks to chin in receipt...MARIA SCOOTS TO HER GLUTES! Menounos up quickly, but shabby-prancin' on the spot as her legs aren't quite back...shaky-8 for Double-M has Jen lickin' her chops in neutral corner. Resume: Lawrence plowing in to lay siege at ropes - bobbing on the spot, unleashing hook after hook against the Menounos flank or waistline CHUP! CHUP! CHUP! Maria grimacing, reaching out to palm left hand atop Jen's head while keeping the right pinned tight to ribs for protection, but it's all too much: Jen just slamming away to glory with her left hand - using the right mitt to punch-push Maria's tits to stabilize and prep. Maria sobbing in body-shock eventually eases herself to right knee to relieve pressure...Lawrence stomps away all angry-butt, ponytail dancing, eyes bright with conquest.

R3: Maria pinned to ring aprons, but fighting back - she's issuing pokey little straight rights; hooking off the right and pivoting clockwise to keep the fight midring. Jen bobbing in brawny crossed-arm (right hand inside left shoulder; left under right elbow) always encroaching, then step-and-hooking body or head when in range. Menounos ashen-faced at the thudding weight of Jen's shot...Maria asking a lot of her legs this round, wheeling the ring, bouncing herself off ropes, trying to keep Jen at arm's length.

R4: Jen using her own footwork now, cutting the ring off on rangy Maria. Menounos wants to circle clockwise, so Jen steps to her right - causing the women to travel south-to-north from one set of ropes to the other. Stymied in her circling attempts, Maria moves to her right from the north-side ropes, but Jen moves to her left: girls travel a straight line to southside ropes, jabbing each other, feeding each other stubby right hands. Lawrence getting the better of it despite not whacking away a consistent hook: jab routinely finding Maria's mouth, startling her; crisp right hands sudden off Jen's shoulder, punching back Maria's head with authority - very much like the old CZJ sneaky right hand. Bell: Maria lumping up through 4, scowling, chastising herself en route to corner...JLaw proving a stocky blonde bully after that shaky first round.

R5: Step-and-hook from the bob - Jen whirling her left hand up and around from her hip and DOWN GOES MARIA! Curiously elegant form for such thudding power - Jen with a nice rhythmic approach, carrying her weight into Maria's chin. Menounos scrambles up all "I'm scrappy", but she's glassy-eyed, shaky-legged: Jenny's thump's getting to Maria M. Rest of the way dogged blonde pursuit of increasingly fragile brunette...Maria palming both hands on Jen's head and shoulders in desperate attempts to sidestep and evade pressure. Lawrence never takes a backward step - focussing on the ribcage to consolidate the knockdown, wicking away the last of Maria's reserves through 5.

R6: Menounos shows fighting heart, stepping into Jen's approach with the short left uppercut, catching Lawrence hard enough to move her out of her stance. Girls rotating clockwise as they come together/separate - Maria gambling, punching-with and beating Jen to contact. Lawrence taking the shots well, continuing to push forward up the middle: Maria forced to work at high-tempo, moving her feet, pumping her jab, taking risks to fit Jen's chin for stubby left uppercuts. Menounos takes the round, but she's drained: mouth open, eyes staring at bell.

R7: Maria pays the bill she racked up with her high-intensity 6th round...Lawrence stubby-jabbing Maria to ropes, laying siege at Menounos grimly digs in at apron. Maria slouching forward in earmuff, buns in ropes, unable to leg out of there or punch-back with authority. Jen getting a good long look at stationary Maria: blonde girl bobbing on the spot, mitts at mouth as she pushes-up on Maria's guard, then hooks her deep behind right elbow. Short right uppercuts pick Maria's guard up, trying to punch her face up off her mitts; follow-on hooks clout Maria's ear/jaw before she can reform rigid earmuff. Jen will drop the right shoulder to hoist right uppercuts to the Menounos breadbasket, but the money-punch is always the left hook - Lawrence popping hips-right and really sinking it in thick behind Maria's drooping right elbow. Menounos brave in the pocket, trying to ride this out in the hopes Jen'll spend up her money, but down the stretch, the dam gives way. Maria bludgeoned not once but twice to knees and forehead - Menounos in such abject misery the ref checks her corner during the break, asking if she'd like to continue. Maria snarling defiance despite a hopelessly battered body at this point: she'll make it out for the 8th!

R8: Maria a shabby reflection of the proud brunette who had strutted, smiling to the ring, yet she issues a pushy-jab, tries to execute a pivot-clockwise to start the 8th. Jen bobbing, sizing Maria up - blonde with right at her jaw, left hand hovering loose around the hip. Patient blonde girl turning-with ramshackle foe, slipping the jab, slipping the jab, then finally stepping inside Maria's poke; twisting up out of the bob into that wide-lashing left hook. Head swivel Maria - shower-spray of sweat as Menounos takes a cracking blast to chin...her legs lock up as her torso rockets backward...Maria hits canvas on her back, KO'd before she makes contact. KO8 in alarming fashion, Jennifer Lawrence.

AFter: Maria quiet on her back for a long time...Jennifer Lawrence just methodically using up every last drop of Menounos tonight, notching a brutal 6 knockdown (including the stoppage) performance. "I got sock!" Jen grins in postfight, thrilled with her work tonight. "I give her credit - Maria was getting hit with all sorts of bombs tonight and she just kept comin'. I'm Kentucky-strong though - comin' at me isn't going to be your best move, and it wasn't for Maria. I thought my footwork really improved tonight too, I mean - it wasn't just my power that got Maria into trouble; it was my movement that put her in position to GET in trouble. I learned a lot from that Strahovski fight, and anybody who thinks that my bubble has popped and that I'm ready to be poached now, had better think again!"
