Tabrett Bethell can’t buy a fight. Even after an impressive KO victory over Krystal Forscutt at the last PPV event, the phone just isn’t ringing.

In contrast her opponent Abbie Cornish, the glamorous assistant to Baudo, has had a tragic run and keeps getting fights! 12 losses from 16 sanctioned fights and really only the 2011 wins over Bleakley and Hawkins to write home about.

Round 1

Both girls looking strong, meet in the middle for a punchfest. Cornish popping a few shots off Tabrett’s chin, leaning away from the left jab and coming back with two lefts of her own. As Tabrett tries to lean away Abbie is swinging at the exposed mid section. Tabrett unable to score against a defiant Cornish. Now she bangs in a one two straight through the gloves and manages to duck and weave the return fire. Classic mid ring display as both girls circle and block and punch. Cornish scoring more punches but Tabrett right in the mix.

Round 2

More of the same, wide stances from both girls as they really look to stay put. This time Tabrett is getting the better of it, her jab a lot quicker, and chases Abbie with it. A little more reach on her side and she is scoring freely. Left and right from Bethell but the next left misses and she takes hard jab to the face, head snapping backwards and for the first time a girl is on the retreat. Abbie grinning tracks her down still with that leading left jab up top. Bethell plants herself again and once more they go at it. Another great in close boxing display to the bell.

Round 3

Cornish now faking left and punching Tabrett with the right. This change up has Bethell back away. Again fake left and another hard right jab to the chin. Now she drives the left forward catching Tabrett on the nose, she’s bleeding. Tabrett stunned, in full retreat. Cornish walking her opponent down, leading left jabs now followed by stiff right crosses. Bethell’s head is being popped back with every punch. Cornish scoring freely. Left jab and RIGHT HOOK across the cheek, Bethell is visably shaken, left knee bending in, STRAIGHT LEFT JAB takes her left eye and she slip stumbles to the rope, guard high as she bounces forward. Cornish widens the stance bending the knees twisting to the right and slinging a left hook at the ribs, twisting the opposite side and slinging a right hook to the ribs. Bethell heaving, knees wobbly, OH FLASHY RIGHT HOOK swipes away the guard and SWIPING LEFT HOOK takes all of Tabrett’s right cheek and DOWN GOES BETHELL! The Cornish of old showing her legendary hall of fame AWUBA ability. Bethell on one knee, spitting blood and wiping a trickle from the nose. She’s up at 7 and ON COMES ABBIE! Tabrett wearing the gloved helmet, backing to the ropes as Abbie just swings wildly at every opening. A little careless as she tries to end and Bethell manages to block most of it although she takes a hammering to the bell.

Round 4

In comes Abbie, attacking the chin with that fakey left and right jab plan. Tabrett fighting through it though, predicting things better and leading away. Halfway through, Tabrett ducks and times a RIGHT UPPERCUT off the front foot taking all of Abbie’s chin. Abbie instantly dazed, eye’s glazed and mouth dropping as she staggers back. Guard drops in typical Cornish fashion of late. Tabrett gleaming, skips in, ONE TWO SOLID JABS to the chest, left right to the face as Abbie’s back hits the ropes, SWIPING RIGHT HOOK across the jaw and DOWN GOES CORNISH! That could be it. Tabrett shaking her head to the Downunder corner where Elle and Nikki have a quiet exchange and shrug shoulders at each other. Cornish rises slowly at 7 and ON COMES BETHELL. Fires in a right jab but Cornish manages to lead away as it wizz’s by her nose, plants her feet and slugs an uppercut into the Bethell sternum as the bell ends the round.

Round 5

Cornish not done with. Bethell slowly out despite the triumphant knockdown. Back to that mid ring slugfest, but both girls a little more careful than earlier. Lots of right hands from Cornish but nothing scoring. Tabrett taking the openings on the counter. Cornish looks like she is willing to take the shots this time, and her counters are starting to find the mark. Connects the chin with a stiff right and Bethell backs away from the exchange just like in the 2nd. Abbie tags her again, then pops Bethell’s head back with a HARD RIGHT JAB, Tabrett stumbling to the corner. Another HARD RIGHT HAND puts her head over the top rope, guard languishing by her side and Abbie just slugs away. Battering left hands one after the other into Tabrett’s right cheek and DOWN SHE GOES! Falling sideways to the mat. Abbie thinks she’s got it as the ref leans in to check a battered Bethell who is lying under the rope. Too her knees at 6 and up at 8, OH! Nursing a closed up right eye and what a bloodied mess. This can’t go on! But the the ref lets it go and Abbie is on top of her girl in an instant. Crunching body shots one after the other into the mid section, Tabrett lifted off her feet with each devastating blow and DOWN SHE GOES AGAIN! Sinking down to her butt cheeks in the corner but the bell may have saved a certain knockout.

Round 6

Cornish standing tall in her corner, Bethell staggering away fearfully, guard helplessly at her temples, awaiting Cornish next move. Abbie just waiting two steps from her corner, shoulder width stance, resting gloves on her waist, pushing her shoulders back. The crowd slow clapping. Tabrett sliding toward mid ring as Abbie launches forward! Only two strides to meet Tabrett who flinches and yelps! Abbie placing a stiff arm jab straight through the weak guard, Tabretts head snaps back. Abbie widens the stance and starts twisting into those bludgeoning hooks, lifting Tabrett off her feet and sideways as each blasts into the ribcage. Tabrett trying to escape backwards but finds herself back in her corner. Kimberley Davies with the towel at the ready. Cornish just smashing those hooks into Tabretts ribs as she slides down the ropes and sits in the corner, DOWN GOES BETHELL! She would be silly to come back from that, onto hands and knees, waving Davies off and bravely rising for a standing 8 count. Abbie tears in, every punch a winner as Bethell’s body thrashes this way and that. Hooks to the head almost turning her 180 degrees as the REF STEPS IN AND IT’S OVER! Devasting TKO6 ABBIE CORNISH!

That is an Abbie Cornish we have not seen. Relentless, workman like performance there. Some signs of why she was once such a revered ACB champ but still a way to go to take on the likes of Poppy and Rachael. Tabrett left wondering what might have been.
