Welterweight Title Fight

The one we have all been waiting for. Baudo threw his reputation on the line back in July last year when he more or less bullied everyone in the BBU to give Elle a shot at the BBU title. Sadly he fell ill and off the radar and has not been able to follow up his wishes for this to happen. People are talking about Delta Goodrem but seriously, she just isn’t in Erika’s league.

Elle is the current ACB Welterweight Champion, an amazing feet for someone who turns 51 next week. Enough said.

Her challenger is the current BBU Welterweight Champion, Erika Heynatz. No one has been able to get near her in 12 attempts, arguably the longest BBU reign in history.

Either way, someone will walk away from this fight with bragging rights.

Round 1

Erika confident, machine like. Text book guard, eye’s fixed on the all time greatest, shows the jab toward the mouth of Elle, but she’s leaning away and pushing the jab aside, returning those trademark quickfire jabs at the chest of Erika. Erika backing away, good signs for Elle and a remarkable grimace from Heynatz, ends up near the ropes. Clinical MacPherson mid way through, “The Body” working the body of Heynatz, raining quick fire jabs on the chest and abs. Heynatz just sitting on the ropes as the furious MacPherson punishes her. First signs in a year of trouble for Erika. BLISTERING LEFT AND RIGHT UPPERCUTS from Elle, the first clipping the ear and the second getting underneath Erikas jaw on the right side!! That shook the foundations!! Solid body shots to follow as Heynatz sidesteps and covers up in the corner, ERIKA IS IN STRIFE! “The Body” is searching for openings, clubbing overhand shots at the exposed ears of Erika, digging uppercuts into the ribs behind the elbows. Heynatz huffing and puffing, takes a hard shot to the temple, up comes the guard like a helmet as Elle just hammers wide hooks to her flanks and ERIKA SLUMPS TO ALL FOURS!! Heynatz wide eyed, heaving in the corner, she looks like a startled gazelle! MacPherson watching poker faced at mid ring and there is the bell! Shocking round for the seemingly unbeatable Heynatz.

Round 2

Heynatz looking beaten, red torso, sweating heavily, dishevelled, swelling around her left eye. She has not moved from her corner and is on the retreat as soon as Elle gets to mid ring. MacPherson spends the entire round chasing down Erika, leading with the jab but missing more often than not. Erika skidding away, rolling along the ropes, often springing to jog away from “The Body”. Elle just focusing on closing the space and strategically working her to the corners so she can fire shots at that swollen eye. Nothing in return from Erika. Despite urges from the ref to get involved she has barely thrown a punch all round. Frustration from MacPherson who thumps both fists on chest at the rounds end.

Round 3

Better from Heynatz, Elle thinking she was way more on top than she was and disrespecting Erika, walking into the destructive jab of Erika on too many occasions. Heynatz still sliding away, urging her opponent forward but now has her eye in and is slipping the punches and landing more in return. Good sharp combinations now from Heynatz, one two up top and then crouching into those trademark body shots. “The Body” not handling the power from those punches and by the end of round 3 her form is exposed.

Round 4

Toe to toe action this time in, as the cream rises to the top and the greatest of all time gets back into the fight. Both girls giving the leather some work with a flurry of combinations. Speed on show from the old girl and a balance of speed and power from the current champ. Elle looking good when she can slip the punches and skip in low for a Heynatz body assault, landing a couple of good finishing uppercuts off her back foot. Heynatz looking comfortable when she has Elle at a distance and can place that jab around the chest and chin, sometimes taking the hard shots on the abs while ripping in short sharp hooks Elle’s face. It’s a close round with a lot of punches thrown but the speed of which Elle is throwing them, you could say she took that round.

Round 5

More of the same in the 5th, except its a slight reversal of the fourth. It looks as though Heynatz has the upperhand slightly. A neat little grazed the eyebrow of “The Body” and a tiny trickle of blood is coming through. Heynatz with a target of her own now and she continues to fire the jab at the cut. MacPherson changes tact and is not as forward in coming forward for those close encounters. Heynatz now has her where she wants her at arms reach and she takes the round.

Round 6

That cut has Elle covering up a bit more now, enough to allow Heynatz full control of the space and she is now bringing in the fancy footwork, darting in with jab, hooking the body, jabbing up top and then retreating, aiming that jab at the left eye. Heynatz darts in again, jab shaves the ear, two solid shots to the body and a CLIPPING UPPERCUT TO THE CHIN has Elle back pedalling. She recovers quickly and shuffles in an arc away from the ropes. Leading jab from Heynatz is on the money, another jab to the mouth, Elle is not handling the speed. Pin point accuracy from Erika, placing that jab on the open cut and Elle is on the move. Carbon copy of Heynatz in the second. Although Heynatz is still scoring, little left jab and a POWERFUL RIGHT JAB that blast through “The Body’s” guard and she stumbles back and sits on the ropes at the bell. Big round from Erika.

Round 7

Erika slowing taking Elle apart. MacPherson is working ok in sections but she has lost some pace and more powerful punches from Erika are unsettling her. She works the jab at Erika’s temple but it’s not on her favoured right hand and she is opening herself up to overhand lefts from Erika. Each time, Erika drives a stiff jab to her temple then clubs a hook into that exposed flank. Erika so sharp with her hands, agile at the hips, slipping her punches then countering with ease. Erika unleashing down the stretch, combinations of 4 jabs to the body, Macpherson to the ropes, SLASHING LEFT AND RIGHT HOOK taking the cheeks, MacPherson wide eyed and blinking against the ropes. Hard body shots at the bell and Erika is well and truly in the box seat.

Round 8

Heynatz comes in leading with the left jab straight at the cut. MacPherson carrying a high guard, exposing all of her torso but Heynatz is determined to jam that jab at her gloves, looking for a knockdown. Elle is protecting herself nicely until Erika steps aside and twist into a CRUNCHING LEFT HOOK to the ribs and ELLE DROPS TO ONE KNEE! Heaving from “The Body” as that shot surely broke a rib. The greatest of all time gasping for air mid ring as she pushes off her knee and the ref lets it go on. She’s cautiously covering the rib with right elbow, glove to chest, left hand like a windscreen wiper at her face. Erika flashes steps in and twists into a CRUNCHING RIGHT HOOK to the exposed left side, a mirror image of the last shot and MacPherson is stumbling side ways. ON COMES ERIKA! Jamming right jab straight into the mouth, left jab to the chest, wide right uppercut to the chin, RIGHT HOOK TO THE TEMPLE and DOWN GOES MACHPERSON! Tall timbers buckling at the knees and falling sideways against the ropes, crashing to the mat. The greatest of all time is down and maybe out!! Heynatz looking past the ref who pushes her away, to see MacPherson roll to her knees and rise slowly at 6. Blood pouring from the mouth. Elle very wobbly, face battered, gets the nod and is saved by the bell. Erika fist pumping by her side as she jogs to her corner.

Round 9

MacPherson giving it everything she has left! Toe to toe action from both of these tall slender woman. Heynatz legs tree rooted to the canvas in a wide stance, just watching and swiping, ducking and leaning, at every advance from “The Body”. Elle finding some pace to land barrage after barrage on the toughest body in the ACB/BBU/FCBA? Nothing phasing Erika as she trades head punches for body blows with Elle. She is tiring toward the and Heynatz, perhaps respectfully just leans away allowing MacPherson to catch her breath as the bell sounds. Elle takes the round but it will take something special in the last if she is to win back the ACB title.

Round 10

All MacPherson in the final round!! The all time greatest with a never give up attitude, catches Heynatz with a BLISTERING LEFT JAB AND RIGHT HOOK, right on the money! Erika stumbles, reaching back to brace herself, searching for rope. MacPherson sprints across crouching and driving a MASSIVE LEFT UPPERCUT into the exposed ribs of Erika. THRASHING LEFT HOOK as Heynatz head snaps sideways and lands back in the middle for a CRUNCHING RIGHT HOOK to the temple and DOWN GOES HEYNATZ!! Head snap to the right, body goes rigid and spins as she lands awkwardly on her side then slowly rolls onto her front. The ref starts counting it’s only a slow rise and fall of the chest at 1....2....3, Erika now pushing up on one arm and getting a leg going at 4....5, she’s got to all fours now at 6....7, and Erika is up at 8! My oh my, she’s been badly bashed this round but the ref lets it go! Heynatz backing away to the corner as the raging bull MACPHERSON CHARGES IN!! She’s wearing the gloved helmet Erika as the quickest hands in the industry tear away at her torso. Lightning fast blows smashing into her abs and chest as Erika sinks down onto her backside at the bell!!!

What an unbelieveable fight. Elle MacPherson, the current ACB Champion looks to have it over the current BBU champion with those two amazing knockdowns in the final round. Erika in tears in her corner as she seems to think she has lost the fight herself and how close has she come to dual belts tonight, but it looks like this is Elle’s evening as we go to the result.......

The judges call it:

90-89 MacPherson
90-89 Heynatz
90-89 Heynatz

The winner by Unanimous Decision and the new ACB Welterweight Champion is Erika Heynatz!!

OH THE HUMANITY!! ELLE SLUMPS TO HER KNEES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RING AND NEXT TO HER ERIKA HEYNATZ SLUMPS TO HERS AS WELL!! Both fighters in shock as the result comes through. Elle tried her guts out in that final round and could only have been beaten by some of those middle rounds. Erika cannot believe it. Not only does she hold that impressive BBU streak but she now holds the ACB title as well.

Surely this changes the face of Australia boxing forever. Surely she can hold claim to the title of the Greatest Australian Boxer of all time.

Not to dismiss the efforts of Elle MacPherson. This must surely send some signals to the BBU guys. No one has been able to put the champ down let alone three times in a fight.

Elle has grabbed the mic “Delta Goodrem! If you think you can beat her in 5 then good luck to you. I don’t need a BBU title shot at Erika, for me, this was it. If I get it then, fair enough, I guess we will ust have to do this all over again but.....I could retire tonight a pretty happy woman regardless of the result”.

Erika goes over to Elle and hugs her and takes the mic “there is no way in the world I would reject a rematch from you no matter what belt we are fighting for! That my friend was one of the toughest fights of my life against clearly the greatest boxer this country has ever produced! And Delta, like I said, I’ll give you 5 rounds, hell I will stand there and let you punch me for 5 rounds but you better hope you have knocked me out before the 6th!!”

Well there is a lot of love in the ring here, what a fight.
