23 July 2014 Caity Lotz vs Amy Acker

"Now that I've got proper backing, I feel like I can finally get the fights I want," said Amy Acker, on the subject of the upcoming match. "And that's exactly what this fight is. Obviously I don't expect to have an easy time, but I'm definitely up to the challenge!"

"At least on paper, I have what it takes to win this one," said Caity Lotz in the period immediately before the fight, rather bluntly. "Of course, statistical advantages can disappear very quickly when punches start flying around! So I take Amy very seriously."

The two fighters enter the ring with Amy Acker in white trunks and bra, and Caity Lotz in blue.

Round 1:

Both fighters wasted no time moving to engage. After a few feints and false starts, Lotz started things off with a right hand attempting to snake around Acker's guard, but fell short as Acker swerved around it. Quick to reply, Acker fired off a one-two combination that took Lotz by surprise, knocking her head back and forcing her to retreat to avoid taking further damage. Not intimidated by Acker's early success, Lotz was quick to rejoin the fight against the taller actress. Seeming to surprise Acker with her quick recovery, Lotz disrupted her opponent's guard by feinting with her right, then followed up with a left hand colliding her opponent's cheek, returning the favor and putting her now on the defensive. Far from being intimidated, Acker charged back in to the center of the ring, foiling Lotz's jabs and landing a solid punch to her forehead that left the shorter actress covering up defensively for the remaining time. The round ended with Lotz out of breath, and Acker looking even more confident than when she began the fight.

Round 2:

Though Lotz had taken the worst of the exchanges in the first round, her enthusiasm was not diminished. She met Acker head on, jabbing at her head and putting her on the defensive, even if she inflicted little actual damage. Lotz was in control of the ring, able to back Acker against the ropes several times. The final time, Acker found herself boxed in and unable to escape, forced to stand and absorb the punishment that Lotz happily dished out. Doing her best imitation of a turtle, Acker was still unable to parry several hard hooks to the body before the time ran out.

Round 3:

Lotz left her corner quickly and immediately continued her careful but effective attack. Poking away at Acker's defenses, she managed to sneak in a body blow that nearly doubled the older actress over between safe jabs from a distance. However, the pain only seemed to make Acker get serious, and soon she was fighting back. Suddenly, Lotz found herself losing control as Acker began to counter more effectively. The younger actress suddenly seemed to not have what it takes to stand and fight Acker, and she continually bounced into her reach only to be driven out. Late in the round, things took a turn for the worse for Lotz; a poorly timed swing caused her to walk face first into Acker's fist. Lotz kept her balance, but lost her desire to engage for the remainder of the round.

Round 4:

Acker came out strong as the round began, attempting to force Lotz into a direct confrontation. In contrast, Lotz stayed back, throwing out a minimal offense while backing away. The round proceeded with Acker in control, but failing to land any blows of significance. Finally, Lotz made a small misstep and found herself backed into a corner. This was all Acker needed. The older actress threw out a rapid series of punches, the first of which bounced off of Lotz's defenses harmlessly, but the last of which slipped through and caught Lotz on the chin, knocking her back into the corner for a second impact that seemed to stun her even more than the blow to the face. With Lotz's defenses in tatters, Acker unloaded on her freely, knocking her opponent back into the corner with blows to the head each time she tried to escape, reluctantly calling her off her attack as the round ended.

Round 5:

The early parts of the fifth round saw history repeat itself, with Lotz ducking and misdirecting Acker. However, after a period of relative inactivity, Lotz fought back. Neither backing down, the two women traded punches, and though no clean hits were landed, the crowd was on its feet, as any hit could spell the end of this fight. Finally, after a particularly bad miss by Acker, Lotz struck her mark, hitting Acker on the chin and stopping her offense dead. Acker wobbled for a moment and failed to recover, landing on her butt a few feet away from her opponent. More demoralized than hurt, Acker was back on her feet in moments. The round contained no further direct showdowns, but Lotz did manage to connect with a few jabs before time ran out.

Round 6:

Acker's defeat in the previous round seemed to have weakened her, and her attempts at offense continually fell short or lightly tapped Lotz's guard. In contrast, Lotz seemed as fresh as when the fight started, and even more eager to take the fight to her opponent. Again and again, she allowed Acker's attacks to fail before executing one or two quick head shots and ending the engagement. Over the course of the round, Acker's ability to fight dropped dramatically as Lotz slowly wore her down. When time ran out, Acker immediately dropped her fists to her sides and limped back to her corner, obviously exhausted.

Round 7:

With a win in sight, Lotz wasted no time in continuing to chip away at what little remained of Acker's ability to fight. Repeatedly poking away at Acker, Lotz found herself exactly where she wanted to be. However, after taking a few hits, something set Acker off, and triggered a short exchange of punches in close range that left Lotz doubled over and coughing from a blow to the stomach. Acker followed up with a solid hook to Lotz's undefended temple that nearly knocked the younger actress' body in a one hundred eighty degree arc. Acker, clearly going all or nothing on her offense, chased Lotz as she stumbled back, swinging her left fist in a wide arc to knock Lotz's head in the opposite direction. Before she could connect, Lotz was back in the fight, landing a quick strike to Acker's nose, causing the older actress to utterly miss with her attack. With Acker's guard fallen to pieces, Lotz quickly capitalized, pounding away at Acker's body with both fists at close range, knocking her onto the ropes. Acker was helpless, absorbing a blow to the face that left her staring off into space, arms limp at her sides, only managing to stay upright with the support of the ropes. As Lotz continued her attack, the referee stepped in to save Acker from her potential injury, awarding Lotz a round 7 TKO. Acker barely managed to stumble back to her corner, staring at the ground in dismay as a smiling Lotz absorbed the cheers of the crowd and the congratulations of her team.

"She had me worried for a bit early on, but as you can see, pressure just motivates me," stated Lotz after the fight. "With Amy behind me, and my record looking the way it does, I'm already looking at the my next moves. And from where I'm sitting, fighters like Nicole Scherzinger and Olivia Wilde seem like pretty attractive targets. I'm aiming high intentionally; obviously wrecking rookies is a waste of my time at this point."
