A lot riding on this. Penny is coming off a title defeat to Browning and rightfully challenged her to a rematch. That was declined as was Danni’s challenge. And so this is the end result. Penny has a good record against Danni, defeating her to claim the title in a brutal TKO victory a couple of years ago. A lot of feeling between these two since that fight.

Danni’s record since then speaks wonders. She came out and bludgeoned Bunton, fought gallantly against Halliwell, and then it has been plain sailing since then with big wins KO wins over Spearritt, Cole (her nemesis), Stevens and most recently Havana Brown.

I predict a bruising affair.

Round 1

Danni with that text book stance, guard nice and high, popping precise jabs at Penny’s face, jabs like a spring coil. Nice solid combinations from Minogue, then dances away showing good footwork to her pro dancing combatant. Almost floats around, steely grin. Higgs working hard, blocking the attack, fast footwork helps her to shift left to right, twisting at the hips and slipping those jabs. Danni working the ring, not coming in too close to Penny early like last time they fought. Solid stiff arm jabs from the outside. Higgs taking a bit of leather to the cheek but shakes that off. Late in the round, Danni consistently putting that stiff arm jab in there, floating around. Higgs unfazed until two solid jabs take chin, Minogue skips in for another to the chin, Higgs shuffling backwards, head wobble, shaking the arms by her side, as the bell ends the first.

Round 2

Trademark footwork now Higgs, skipping in treating herself to quick fire jabs at Danni, then dancing out. Beating Danni at her own game. Coaxing Danni in but quicker footwork helps beat her to the punch. But finds her back against the rope, bouncing off and dancing sideways to the corner, trapped there but loves it in close, hard left into Danni’s body, twisting and leaning on the ropes, hard left jab to the chin, Minogue rattled, corner calling her to step back. Higgs clever, working under the jab with quick fire jabs to the abs. Great work Higgs, hips twisting, shoulders switching left to right, jabbing up top, jabbing down low. “STEP BACK DANNI” calls the corner but she’s transfixed trying to land a punch. Taking a lot of leather on the torso, tiring by the end of the round. The bell ends a well structured round from Penny.

Round 3

Danni cautious, keen to draw Higgs to her now. Penny up to the task. Minogue fighting off the back foot, leaning back and jabbing, and connecting well, surprising Higgs. Lands another and floats away, back to round 1 form. Penny retreating now, coaxing Danni but she is smart and stays put this time. Stalemate, crowd in a dull roar of frustrated jeers. Fast footwork Minogue, pounding the jab at the face, once, twice then floats out. Crowd cheers. Penny higher defence, tighter stance, taking leather as Danni continues to pop that jab into her guard. Quick hands to the gut, then twisting into a rangy left hook to the forehead, Higgs has the jitters. Minogue busy, spanking Higgs all over with quick hands. Penny struggling on return, constantly missing, finds herself retreating, sliding rope side to her corner, but Danni’s staying away at the bell.

Round 4

Penny sucking in the big ones, first signs of trouble, has Minogue thinking. Danni stays on the outside though, doesn’t want a repeat of round 2. Higgs attacking on lowered tanks, swiping hooks at the rib cage, Danni sucking air in through gritted teeth. Higgs again, this is “last encounter” like from Penny, pounding the ribs. Danni jabs the forehead and Higgs walks through it. Another crunching rib shot, Minogue skips right and bunny hops rope side, plants the left foot and stiff arms her attacker to the forehead again. Higgs in the crouch, Minogue stuck in the corner, Penny’s hips twisting pounding the ribs with powerful hooks, one two combos from Danni to the chin and cheek. More from Higgs, pounding in, moving better at the hips, shoulders twitching left right as well, slipping the stiff jabs now. Minogue sucking hard, knees are shaking, elbows tight into the ribs, gloves by her cheeks, mouth wide open, taking a pasting to the body, leans on the apron, MINOGUE COMING APART! Higgs slips half a step back, swiping right hook across the gloved guard. Danni uses the opportunity to slide along rope side. Higgs tracking her, CLUBBING LEFT HOOK to the jaw. Danni hurt, stumbling sideways to the opposite corner, ref moves in. Danni widened glassy eyes, puts on the gloved helmet, tries to continue down the long side, clubbed back into the corner by a horrific hook to the ribs. MINOGUE TAKES A KNEE! Higgs from nowhere. Bell to Bell demolition.

Round 5

Minogue better for the break, nursing reddened ribs but looks lively. Footwork is there. Higgs comes straight at her, determined to continue 4th round slaughter. Gets in low and slashes at the body, misses, and Danni sweetly times a FLASHING HOOK right across the cheek, Higgs pirouettes a half turn, stomping away from Danni, struggling for her footing. She’s in trouble. Danni steps left to the ropes and confronts her drunken opponent, hard left and right jabs to the chin, Higgs stomping backwards eyes skyward, can’t focus on anything, gloves coming up to the forehead palms out. Ref very watchful as Minogue lights up the exposed torso. Higgs belted back, leaning against the side ropes, Danni spanking that ribcage, Higgs elbows wilting legs wobbly. Minogue treating herself to pot shots at the face, closing up the left eye with a vicious jab, LEFT HOOK ACROSS THE JAW, Higgs mouth sagging, as a right smashes into her cheekbone and DOWN GOES HIGGS! Like a sack of spuds to the feet of Danni who stands over her grinning. Ref muscles her away and that gives time for Penny to try and stand, she’s on her feet at 8 but all jelly legs and there’s nothing in the eyes. OH HE HAS LET IT GO! Danni sprints across and unleashes TWO GUT WRENCHING UPPERCUTS into the poor girls bread basket, as Zaetta hurls the towel over the top rope, but it’s all too late as Danni launches out of the crouch into a BLASTING UPPERCUT to Penny’s mouth....mouthguard goes flying over the top rope and into the middle of the Wildetime crew and DOWN GOES PENNY HIGGS sent flying backwards like she’s taken a cannonball to the abs, upper thoracic and back of the head smacking into the corner and she sits for a moment before falling left into the foetal position. The ref was waving his arms as the towel came over and he still is, HORRIFIC TKO5 DANNI MINOGUE!

Pure elation from Danni Minogue is she signals the belt across her waist to Emily Browning and the rest of her Downunder corner. Emily just blankly starring, mouth open, in absolute shock of what just happened. Pure disgust in the Wildetime corner as the replay clearly shows the towel over the rope as those gut wrenching blows connect. They can protest all they like now but Penny Higgs has just lost the fight and she is looking like being carted off to the same place as Naomi Watts. We’ve got all sorts of people in the ring here, as they apply a neck brace to Higgs and move her onto a stretcher.

“It’s never nice seeing anyone get carted away like that. I’ve definitely broken her jaw with the first hook that put her down. I was reluctant to come forward when the ref called it on. I hope I haven’t seriously hurt her. Someone from Wildetime screamed out that I saw the towel but I didn’t see anything except her head lulling about in position for that final uppercut. I was going for the nose, but I got her chin....I really hope she is ok” said Minogue post fight. “I can lock away a title shot at Browning now”.
