“You can’t help but feel slightly intimated when you get in the ring with a proven FCBA fighter, especially someone who recently went 10 with Charlize” said Jen in her prefight conference. “But Feebs still has a lot to learn. She’s a bit cocky”. Coming from an AWUBA legend who has yet to really show any spark at this level, those are pretty brave comments.

Tonkin made her mark in a brief AWUBA stint with 8 consecutive super featherweight titles before she headed to the US. Now that she is back with BronzedOz, she has been well managed by YassieD and is very much wanted in the FCBA. Her infamous round 1 knockout of Tricia Helfer is one that will be forever remembered.

We think she will be “too much” for the veteran tonight.

Round 1

Feebs is a bit robotic, stalking Jen, guard high. Hawkins looking relaxed, lean and slender, watching. Nice footwork from the veteran, stepping left and jabbing hard off the chest. Early on, Hawkins connects a right cross, straight through the gloves, taking Tonkin’s forehead. Feebs stumbling, a bit stunned. Takes a hard left/right hook combo to the guts, OH HARD RIGHT UPPERCUT through the gloves again, all cheek, fires the head up. Hawkins bearing her teeth, stepping left and swiping a LEFT AND RIGHT HOOK across her chin. Tonkin’s knees a shaking, stumbles backwards reaching for the ropes. Hawkins flashing in, left and right hook to the torso as Feebs back slaps on the ropes. Jen crouching into more left right hooks at the open torso, LEFT UPPERCUT to the sternum. Not looking good for Tonkin, ref in close, she’s not sure what to protect. Hawkins slugs away, lefts and rights at every opening, just banging Tonkin this way and that. Feebs sitting back in the ropes, LEFT AND RIGHT HOOK to the jaw and DOWN GOES TONKIN! Total destruction of an upcoming superstar by the veteran Hawkins. Jen all smiles, skipping away to her corner, as she watches Tonkin slowly rise, wiping blood from a cut below the right eye. There’s still a minute left, Tonkin all covered up, sitting in the corner. Hawkins skipping across, pushing Feebs with the left and slamming blows firmly into the stomach. Feebs is being bashed, Jen in close, non stop barrage of body blows as Tonkin slides to her butt in the corner nursing a reddened torso.

Round 2

Jen straight into it again, meeting Feebs midring. She’s even more limber, agile, circling her bigger opponent and snapping the younger girls head back every time. The ref looking ever so closely, Tonkin’s right eye all but closed, Hawkins nailing the cut with every blow. DOWN GOES TONKIN just dropping where she stood. Jen hands out to her side towards the BronzedOz corner. Perhaps one too many to the cut and Feebs just crumbling to the canvas. She’s slow to her knees. Oh that’s a nasty cut now, the condition of that eye is not good. On it goes as Jen springs back into action nailing Tonkin with a left jab to the cut and a FLASHING RIGHT HOOK across the temple and that’s goodnight nurse, DOWN GOES TONKIN, rigid and crashing to her side with a movie like bounce to the canvas. KO2 JENNIFER HAWKINS!

That’s one ugly knockdown of a pretty handy fighter. Phoebe Tonkin was never given a chance in the fight, in fact I don’t recall her even trading a blow. From the second that right cross landed early in the first to that fatal right hook at the end, she was destroyed. Concerns for her as she still lays in the middle of the ring, yet another casualty in a bruising ACB card.

“I felt really good tonight. So so nervous right up until the bell sounded and we met mid ring. She looks big. But then you get up close and she is just a baby really, I mean that in the nicest possible way. She has so much going for her and if she could just keep that mouth shut and really show what she is made of, she would gain a lot more respect. I was expecting her to come on strong and so when she wasn’t trading blows early and that cross got through, I was like, sweet, this is mine”. When asked who is next, Jen was hopeful. “Look probably Abbie Cornish, but you’d like to think a title shot was available”.
