Well the first big girl battle didn’t last long so hopefully this one does. Two very accomplished and decorated fighters of the AWUBA.

Sarah Murdoch the most dominant middleweight we saw by a country mile with 43 titles to her name. Also handled herself very well at Super Middle with many a hard fought contest against the great Tatiana Gregorieva. Her last effort against Lucy Pargeter was vintage Murdoch and with a 4-0 record in all forms, she’ll be hard to beat tonight.

In the other corner, you would be hard pressed to find a better Super Lightweight than Sonia Kruger. Only surpassed by Hawkins and we know all about her record. She fought at Welter as well and more than held her own which is why she finds herself in that division here. Her only fight to date is that record breaking knock out of Sophie Monk. At 48, going on 49, you don’t go in under prepared against Sonia Kruger.

Round 1

Murdoch text book stance, chin tucked, gloves up as she moves forward. Sonia bouncing, threatening Sarah with a step forward, then sliding back. Kruger darting in with solid one, two combos, taking Murdoch's chin and retreating as Sarah shakes them off. Murdoch hanging in there, Kruger circling, springs to with a FLASHY RIGHT HOOK on the mouth and MURDOCH GOES DOWN! Sarah stunned, she's lying on her back with her knees up. Sarah sucking in the big ones, and just up at 8. Kruger the Cheshire cat, romps in, jabbing to the body, arching the back into a clipping uppercut, springs in as Murdoch stumbles back to ropes and FLASHES THE LEFT HOOK! Blistering left hand clips the chin and DOWN GOES SARAH! Murdoch crashing to her side at the ropes, once again slow up at 8. Murdoch all dishevelled, stunned and HERE COMES KRUGER! Sonia shaping up in her face, Sarah in a daze just puts on the gloved helmet with her back on the ropes. She's bashed. Kruger just letting them rain down on her defenseless foe. Murdoch split lip, blankly starring at Sonia as the bell sounds. Follows her to the wrong corner then reels around, stumbling across to the Downunder cutman.

Round 2

Murdoch pulls it together but is still hurting. Sarah stepping right from her corner, getting out of the way of that Kruger right hand. Starts getting that jab to work, taking some space from the more muscular tormentor and Kruger just can’t get in there. She’s constantly falling against Sonia, wrapping her up, pushing her forward, or rolling her around and falling against the ropes, then sliding away to the space as they break. Kruger trying to stay on top but she just can’t find space or any openings and Sarah has managed to take that round with more punching.

Round 3

Murdoch is back from the brink, careful and watchful, she’s fighting from the outside now, circling the ring and countering beautifully. Sonia can't get past the jab and she is lumping up a bit. Sarah smacking the jab to the cheeks, forcing Kruger onto the back foot now. Murdoch is putting them together now, following up the jab with the hook. She is landing a lot more punches and really working her way back into the fight. Sonia's nose bloodied but she is still looking all muscular and threatening, just struggling to find first round form.

Round 4

Murdoch in control, serving up a beating to Kruger. Brilliant work behind the jab, pounding Sonia in the chest and torso and precision punching on the cut under Sonia’s left eye. Murdoch's footwork finally in tune with what’s happening upstairs, sliding back and leaning away from Kruger's advances, forcing Sonia forward and clouting her across the face. Sarah working the combos now, quick fire jabs and follow up uppercuts to the chin and Sonia is HURT! Kruger's chin not holding up real well, tagged over and over. Murdoch CLUBBING HOOKS into Sonia's washboard stomach, THUMP THUMP, THUMP THUMP, as Sonia soaks them up wincing. Sarah working in close, all over her muscular opponent. Big round this from Sarah, Kruger landing very little and taking a pasting from Murdoch in return. Sarah way to crafty and classy and totally in control of the fight.

Round 5

Sarah has been softening up Kruger's chin for the last 2 rounds and Kruger is wearily meeting her mid ring. Change of tact Murdoch, into the forward crouch and working the midsection. Sonia hurting, stumbling to the right after a close exchange of body shots. Murdoch advancing forward, totally dominating the space, jab jab jabbing up top has Sonia’s head bobbing back and forth. Steps in with hooks and crosses, backing Kruger up. Sonia is in full retreat, sucking in the big ones, mouth wide open, eyes wide, back slaps the ropes! She’s got the gloved helmet on now, bending in at the waist and knees are shaking as Sarah leans in with CLUBBING HOOKS to the ribcage. Muscular blonde girl all buckled up at the ropes, her guards quite rigid. Sarah shifting her weight onto her front foot and timing the LEFT UPPERCUT right under the chin! Sonia head pops back, crafty little jabs to Sonia's face. Sarah’s just playing with her. Eyes are gone, Sonia starring at the back of the stadium. Left hook in behind the elbow undoes Sonia’s sturdy legs as her knees buckle in, her guard falls down to her side! CLUBBING RIGHT HAND thwops the mouthpiece out and sits Sonia on the ropes. Sarah just propping her up with her shoulders, banging body shots in then sliding back and THRASHING THE HOOK across the jaw. Sonia still upright, blank stare, hands by her side. Sarah continues, little left and rights to the face, drilling shots over and over as that head just bounces around on a bobble. Sonia wilting against the ropes and the Ref jumps in to save her from a certain journey to the dark dark world. Murdoch with a signature catwalk strut away, rolling the fist in the air as she takes an impressive TKO5, SARAH MURDOCH!

The comeback of the night right there is she was all but beaten in the first. That’s a really clever, well constructed recovery from Sarah Murdoch and Sonia Kruger must be kicking herself that she let that one get away from her.

I’ve not seen Sonia so destructively torn apart since the latter days of the AWUBA when Erika Heynatz took her Super Light title from her and defend it twice successfully. Perhaps we have seen her best but we certainly hope not.

Sarah on the other hand now has her sights fixed on Elle MacPherson and is right in the mix for an ACB Title shot at Erika.

“Far out, I can’t believe I just came back from that. I actually didn’t know where I was at the start of the second. Elle asked me what day of the week it was and I said September and then she asked me what state I was in and I said “a bad one”. Honestly can’t remember most of the second round.” Of a possible match up with stable mate and manager Elle MacPherson she said “I would rather not comment, I just hate the thought of fighting a close friend”.
