BEFORE:

"It's great to be back," says a smiling Jennifer. "I know people are wondering what I've got left, but I think the break was good for me. I feel great. I've trained very well. I'm ready and I can't wait to get back in the ring."

"She's a Hall of Famer," says Gemma. "And that's all you need to know about how good she is. And I'm not buying any of this stuff about her being too old or too rusty. She wouldn't be here if she didn't think she could show us vintage Jennifer Garner, and that's EXACTLY what I expect to have to deal with in there. But. I CAN deal with it. And that's precisely what I'm GOING to do."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and the Hall of Famer's going to get the honors, because that's 'London Calling' blasting over the P.A., and here comes 'The Gravesend Gladiator', Gemma Arterton!"

Cassie: "Typical classy move by Uncle Wiz..."

McCarthy(making choking noises...)

Tess: "Are you OK, Mac?"

McCarthy(still coughing): "Scabbo is (cough) trying to (cough) kill me! She waited until I started drinking my Dr. Pepper to say 'Weirdo' and 'class' in the same sentence! I have a lung full of diet soda!"

Cassie: "And a chest full of silicone..."

McCarthy: "Shut (cough) it, Scabbo!"

O'Dell(sighing): "Gemma into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal the familiar violet two-piece, and that's 'Grey Street' by DMB, and here comes one of the biggest fans of that band, Hall of Famer Jennifer Garner!"

Tess: "Here are some numbers to tell you just how great a career Jen G has had. 119 fights. 81 wins. 52 by knockout. She's a ten time lightweight champion, and she's defended the belts successfully 13 times, meaning she has 23 wins in title fights."

O'Dell: "Garner, of course, representing Foxfire Boxing. She climbs into the ring and is helped off with the robe to reveal a red two piece and a body that doesn't look anything like 42 years old."

Tess: "She might be the best looking 42-year-old on the planet..."

McCarthy: "Since I'M still 41, I'll let that pass, Walmart..."

O'Dell: "The ladies about ready. Time for some pics. Tess favors Gemma. Mac?"

McCarthy: "As I said, if this were Anna Torv, we'd really have something. Arterton isn't at Torv's level. Garner may be a bit rusty, but she's a great fighter, and she'll get the win."

O'Dell: "Cassie?"

Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"

O'Dell: "There's the bell for the first, and Garner right to the offensive. Jen G showing absolutely zero rust here, coming right at Arterton and landing some solid shots. Gemma quickly thrown over to the defensive here, being backed up by the Hall of Famer..."

McCarthy: "This is an excellent strategy by Garner. She's surprised Arterton, who figured she might start slowly. Instead, she's shifted into high gear immediately."

O'Dell: "And she certainly still HAS a high gear. Jennifer moving extremely well. Showing all that athleticism you've come to expect from her. Moving the feet well. Beating the younger woman to punches. Keeping her off balance."

Cassie: "And she's not just landing, she's landing with power. It looks like she was last in the ring about six weeks ago, not almost two years ago."

O'Dell: "Jennifer bouncing on the balls of her feet, keeping Gemma at bay with the left, lining her up for right hands. Arterton effective in counter in spots, but it's Garner who's in control as the final seconds tick off the clock. There's the bell, and it's an excellent first round for Jennifer Garner."

Tess: "And the Foxfire corner has to be happy with Jen G grabbing the early 10-9 lead."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "Second round begins with even more aggression from Garner. Jennifer right after Gemma, landing hard, accurate stuff, backing Arterton up, forcing her to cover up and work back in counter."

Tess: "Mac, are you surprised at how sharp Garner is after two years out of the ring?"

McCarthy: "No question. You had to figure the first couple of rounds might go the way they did in the last fight, with Jen getting her sea legs and slowly getting more comfortable, but she's hit the ground running."

O'Dell: "And she's got Arterton off balance. Gemma unable to get much going offensively, being suppressed by the heavy, accurate fire from Garner. Jen looking like she never left, smooth, quick punches. Hands back quickly, feet moving, bouncing on her toes, looking every bit like the Garner of ten years ago."

Cassie: "Something else is at work here, too, Jenny. Gemma's about as physical as it gets in this division. There aren't many girls who can step to her and bang away. But, Garner can, and she IS."

O'Dell: "No question about it. Arterton beginning to fire back more effectively as we head down the stretch and there's a SCINTILLATING exchange of leather...AND ANOTHER! Both girls landed some heavy shot in there! And there's the bell and we've got a staredown!"

McCarthy: "No words exchanged, but the eyes say, 'Is that all you got?'"

O'Dell: "I'll tell you what Garner's got. Her second straight round and a 20-18 lead."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Third round underway and we're seeing more aggression from Arterton. Gemma looking to get off first this round, and she's landing some good stuff upstairs on the Hall of Famer..."

McCarthy: "Maybe Arterton's figured out how badlly she needs this round..."

Tess: "Explain to the fans why you think this round is so big for Gemma, Mac..."

McCarthy: "It's math. She's down two points right now, which means all Garner has to do to win this fight, barring knockdowns, is split the last eight. That's something percentages would tell you a great fighter like Garner is likely to do. If she wins this round and goes up by three, Arterton is looking at having to win seventy percent of the remaining rounds just to force overtime. I'm not sure how many times a fighter's won seventy percent of the rounds against Garner, but I'm willing to bet that, in 119 fights, it's no more than a handful of times..."

Cassie: "Ok, truck, come clean. Who did the math for her?"

McCarthy: "Shut UP, Scabbo!"

O'Dell(sighing): "Arterton looking to push the pace now, landing to the head much more often than she did in the first couple of rounds. She's managed to slowly take the initiative from Garner, though Jen G is giving it up grudgingly and making Arterton pay a price for it."

Cassie: "This kind of heavy hitting is, again, usually something that favors Gemma, as physical as she is, but, tonight, once again, different story. Garner is as tough and sturdy as they come."

O'Dell: "And she's showing that as we head down the stretch. Jen G banging back to the body, slowing Arterton's offensive. Gemma still slugging away, however, looking to back the former champion up, but Garner not having any, holding canvas, standing toe to toe and the ladies exchanging heavy shot now, right to the bell! Great round, and it looks like Mac did all that math for nothing, because, despite the late Garner rally, Arterton's on the board."

Tess: "29-28 for Jen G with seven to go."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "Fourth round begins with more aggression from Arterton. Gemma clearly trying to push pace now, very active with the hands and feet, forcing Garner to up her own workrate to keep up..."

McCarthy: "Not a bad strategy. As good a shape as Garner's in, and she's clearly in great shape, she's 42. Arterton is 28. Forcing the pace might be a way to get into Jen G's reserves...but it's not without risk."

O'Dell: "It most certainly is not, but it's working for Gemma at the moment. Arterton moving the feet well, getting off first, willing to hand in and take counters to keep the exchanges going. Garner would love to tempo down here, work gun platform stuff, but Gemma not allowing it."

Cassie: "Arterton's a very good boxer. We've seen her demonstrate that before and she's doing it again now. Spotting up perfectly, landing a high percentage, laying down good suppressive fire."

O'Dell: "Garner responding with the jab, looking to force distance so that she can shell, having some success at times with that strategy, but not for long. Gemma too slick, moving too well, always able to get to good spots to punch and keep up the leather barrage. Final seconds ticking off now and there's the bell. Another good round, and a second straight win for Arterton."

Tess: "38-38 after four. We expected a competitive fight, and we're getting one."

ROUND FIVE:

O'Dell: "Fifth underway with Gemma pressuring again, but Jen G looking to angle up now. Instead of trying to get distance with the jab, she's using footwork and hand and head movement to prevent Gems from squaring up."

Cassie: "You know, we think of Gema as a veteran fighter, and she is. She's been at Front Street four years this month and debuted in 2010. She's had over two dozen fights. But, Gemma's experience pales in comparison to Garner, who more TITLE fights than Arterton has total fights. And you're seeing that experience now, Jen G findings ways to counter what Gems wants to do."

O'Dell: "No frustration from Arterton, though. Keeping at it, trying to match footwork and line Jen up. Scoring when she can do that. Garner, meanwhile landing good, solid stuff from angles. Keeping the exchanges short. Not allowing Arterton to up that work rate or get in rhythm."

McCarthy: "And, you gotta give Jen credit. She may be 42, but she's still quick and still in great shape. Look how well she moves! I think the only 40-year-old who can move better than THAT is right here at this table!"

Cassie: "Truck, Mac's big head broke her headset again..."

McCarthy: "I'm GOING to break something..."

O'Dell: "Coming toward the half way point of the fight. Garner still having the better of things as we head into the final seconds. Gemma still working hard, but Jennifer working a bit smarter right now. Good work for Garner right up to the bell, and Jen G's back in front."

Tess: "48-47 with five to go, and all five rounds competitive. This has been a heck of a fight so far."

ROUND SIX

O'Dell: "Sixth round underway and Garner pressing the advantage. Jen G upping the aggression, coming forward a bit more now, still angling but clearly looking to get to Arterton. Gemma being thrown over to the defensive as Garner begins landing consistent, heavy shot."

McCarthy: "Got to like Garner's thinking here. She's found something that works and she's looking to make as much hay as possible with it."

O'Dell: "And she's got Arterton in retreat now. Garner able to land some sharp right hands in these exchanges. Gemma's own offense being suppressed by the Hall of Famer's fire. Arterton trying to back and circle now, but Garner matching footwork and continuing to square her up."

Tess: "Jennifer laser accurate this round, Jenny. She's really ranged in and she's causing big problems for Gemma."

O'Dell: "And there's a big flurry from Arterton and she wobbled Garner! Arterton countering and she's landed a big right hand!"

Cassie: "You do not want to be buzzed against Gemma. She's a finisher."

O'Dell: "And she's all about that right now. The round immediately does a 180 and it's Gemma driving forward against Garner. Arterton controlled, clinical, setting up hard right hands with the jab. Garner's legs a bit wobbly. Jen gives ground until Gemma has her on the ropes and can really go to work. Arterton thumping that body, then working upstairs, lands a good left hook that sends sweat flying. Jen G keeping the guard up, countering in spots, but taking a thumping as we head down the stretch. Arterton another good flurry. Landed another good hook in there. Garner sturdy, handing on and countering a bit better as she shakes it off. And there's the bell. Jen G holds Gemma off, but Arterton rallies back to take the round."

Tess: "And even the fight again, this time at 57-57."

ROUND SEVEN:

O'Dell: "Seventh round begins with Garner right back to work. Jennifer has the legs back and she's back to angling and using the footwork to get to spots and land solid shot."

McCarthy: "And she's clearly not happy that Gemma stole that last round late. She's putting a little extra on those punches and starting to work more body now."

O'Dell: "Arterton returning fire, landing some good stuff as well. We're seeing more accurate two-way leather than we have in any round so far. Garner slick and, at 42, still quick, always in a good spot and never in the same spot too long."

Cassie: "And here's another thing being a one-hundred fight veteran does for you. Garner didn't give up on what she was doing because of what happened late last round. If it's working fine for five straight minutes, you don't get away from it because you get caught with a good counter."

O'Dell: "Garner getting plenty of work done as we head down the stretch. Arterton countering, scoring well herself, but it's Garner who's the general in the ring right now. Jen G calling the tune and forcing Gemma to play it right to the bell. And, Garner is back in the lead after seven."

Tess: "67-66. Wonder how many fights Arterton's been in where she's gotten through seven rounds and never had the lead? I'm betting it's not many."

ROUND EIGHT:

O'Dell: "We're into the eighth and Garner back after Gemma. Arterton answering with some heavy shot of her own. Jen G trying to back Gemma up now, take control of the fight, but Arterton not having any, refusing to cede canvas and giving as good as she gets."

Cassie: "Jennifer still angling up, but Gemma finding ways to get square and counter. Good, two way stuff as both ladies are landing."

O'Dell: "Garner having moments where she's able to get the better of the exchanges, but Arterton having similar moments, and the result is quite a lot of leather being traded."

McCarthy: "And this isn't any mindless slugging, either. Both women very controlled, setting their punches up very well."

O'Dell: "Indeed they are, and both scoring well as we head down the stretch. Arterton working more downstairs in the closing seconds, digging body then landing a hard combination. Garner fires back with a good right hand and Gemma responds with a left-right at the bell! Good, close round, but Arterton's tied it again."

Tess: "76-76 after eight. Can't get much closer than this..."

ROUND NINE:

O'Dell: "Ninth of a scheduled ten underway and note the word 'scheduled', because this one is dead even with six minutes to go. Garner back to work, making with the pressure, coming forward, slipping and side-stepping, working the angles to score with both hands."

McCarthy: "Arterton seemed to solve some of this last round, but Garner's made some little adjustments and she's gained the upper hand again."

O'Dell: "But not for long. Gemma firing back now, slowing Jennifer's advance, squaring up and getting thumping leather on target. More good, two-way stuff as the two veterans have at it in the middle of the ring."

Cassie: "And, again, nothing sloppy. Nobody just winging away here. Good, sound stuff as both ladies move the feet, the hands, the heads, get to spots where they can punch and get off."

O'Dell: "Good sharp right by Garner, and Arterton a left-hand counter! Jen wobbled and DOWN SHE GOES!"

Cassie: "Left hook hurt Garner and then Arterton dropped her with a right hook off a left jab!"

O'Dell: "Garner pounds the mat in frustration as the referee picks up the count at three. Four. Five. Garner's going to have no trouble beating this. She's up at six, just buzzed, not seriously hurt. She'll take the mandatory and the referee waives Arterton forward. Gemma not piling on here. Using her jab, boxing Jen G in the final seconds. She knows Jennifer's not badly hurt and is plenty dangerous, and she's not taking any chances. Garner responding in counter, lands a good straight right at the bell. Pretty even round until the knockdown, ladies..."

Tess: "But that was huge. Arterton now up 86-84 with one round to go."

ROUND TEN:

O'Dell: "Tenth and final begins with Garner coming full bore at Arterton. Jen G knows she needs something big here, and she's determined to get it. Gemma giving ground, keeping the guard up, willing to remain on the defensive as Jennifer bangs away both upstairs and down."

McCarthy: "Good strategy by Arterton. If she's on her feet for the next three minutes, she's going to win the fight. No need to try to be a hero."

O'Dell: "And now Arterton banging back! Gemma a thumping flurry and Garner backed up a step! Jen G responds and here we go! Some serious leather swapping going on right in the middle of the ring!"

McCarthy: "This is nuts! Typical Dancing Hooker stuff! Just how Ruah lost to Lawrence, getting in there and banging when you've got the fight won!"

Cassie: "Gemma doesn't want to back into this win, and I don't blame her. That's a Hall of Famer she's fighting, and she's not going to spend the tenth running."

O'Dell: "She definitely is not as sweat flies from both ladies as the barrage of leather continues. Arterton banging body now and Garner following suit. Gems then works upstairs and Jen G fires back! Arterton backs Garner up a step, hooks the ribs. Garner a good rightr hand in response."

Tess: "This has been a great, action-packed round. Good way to end a great, action-packed fight..."

O'Dell: "And both ladies look like they could go another ten, as they exchange sharp flurry after sharp flurry coming down the stretch. Arterton getting the better of these exchanges, taking a little canvas from a determined Jen G. Garner looking for something big as the final seconds tick off, and she's not going to find it. There's the bell! And there's one of those hugs Mac likes so much. Definitely some mutual respect here..."

Tess: "Can't blame them for this one, Mac."

McCarthy: "It's a prize fight not a campfire sing along!"

O'Dell: "Decision being read and the judges scoring it 96-93 for your winner by UD10, 'The Gravesend Gladiator', Gemma Arterton!"

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"

Tess: "I have our winner, Gemma Arterton, and that was quite a fight..."

Gemma: "She's quite a fighter. I've fought some top talent and she's as good as anybody I've been in with, except maybe Theron. She's quick, athletic, and hits like a truck. I had to really dig deep to find a way. But, I found one."

Tess: "That you did, and, obviously, it's a huge win for you..."

Gemma: "Absolutely. People can hype you all they want, but the only way you establish yourself in the FCBA is to beat people. Well, I've beaten people, people who have bronze busts in the Hall of Fame. Try and spin that all you like, but there aren't many girls who've beaten two Hall of Famers in seven months. Not many at all."
