JILL WAGNER VS MARY ELIZABETH WINSTEAD
Writing: Archer / Results: Lookout!

Before: “It’s nice to be fighting someone with a reputation like Mary,” says Jill Wagner, “it make it  so much sweeter when I beat her.” (Pause, looks at the now frowning Mary). “You see I know you are looking for an easy fight after Strahovski and Biel kicked your ass. Nice plan, but I’m not going along with it—you’re in for another bad time in the ring.  Though I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, I need all the fights I can get and picking off a Foxfire chick always going to get you noticed.”

Mary is not in the least amused by Jill’s mocking manner, but whispered warnings from Foxfire communications director Beth Harnois,  cause the proud young fighter to swallow her fury. She does give the Bazz fighter a withering look that is returned with a cheerful smirk.

“I don’t know where Jill got the easy I was looking for an ‘easy’ fight,” Mary says firmly. “I never take ‘easy’ fights. Sure, I want a win, what fighter doesn’t? I don’t expect it to be easy. This is the first time we’ve fought, that’s what made her interesting to me—but I think now I have another reason—she needs to learn to don’t mock Mary Winstead and get away with it!”

(Jill gives the press an innocent “Who me?” look that brings a ripple of laughter of the assembled scribes and another withering glare from Ms. Winstead)

On fight night, Mary shows up in a black bikini with a little white fighting belt around it with white gloves. She pounds them together impatiently while giving Jill more hostile looks. Jill in a silvery bikini with silver gloves. She returns Mary’s glares with a mocking smiles. Referee has to take a firm hand to keep Mary away from Jill before the bell.

During R1: Mary doesn’t waste any time once the bell ring--she’s across the ring ready to take her frustration out on the older fighter. Jill cool under the charge, shows good speed in moving away from the determined brunette. Mary forced to pursue, but she shows good movement in finally cutting Jill off and pounding her hard to the ribs and midsection. Jill using her jab to mark up Mary’s face and hooking her chest. Mary keeps up the pressure and gradually makes Jill retreat with smarting flanks and belly. Round goes to Mary.

R2: Mary loves to put pressure on another fighter even if she has to fight her way in close to do it. This round is a perfect example of this. She gets strong counters from Jill, getting her head knocked back at time, but Mary won’t stop putting leather into Jill’s body. Strong punching is clearly being left by the Bazz blonde and she finally has use her speed to pull away. Mary again dogged in pursuit, but she can’t land as many solid punches as earlier, though she still wins the round.

R3: Jill turns aggressor in this round and smacks Mary smartly to the face and belly early on. Mary seems surprised at this, but she doesn’t back down from the challenge. Fierce back and forth action follows which brings the crowd roaring to its collective feet. Jill gets the better of the exchange as Mary is driven backwards and gets her mouth bloodied by a swiping Wagner right. Mary shakes it off and fire back at Jill, bringing her to halt, but unable to keep the points going to the Bazz fighter.

R4: Mary looking lumped up but she comes out with a determined look and heads straight for Jill. Wagner again uses her mobility to make Mary pursue her. Mary works hard to cut Jill off once again and engage her a close range. Jill accepts the challenge and it’s another fierce exchange with both fighters landing hard, punishing blows. However this time, Mary tags Jill’s chin several times and makes the blonde fall back. Mary has a fresh trickle of crimson running down the side of face, but she ignores it and smiles grimly at making Jill retreat. Jill fighting back with her jab, but Mary takes this round.

R5: Mary seems a little slow off her stool as though the punishment she’s absorbed is starting to catch up with her. Jill moving quickly out of her corner catches Mary trying to organize herself and lands a walloping right/left combination to the Foxfire fighter’s jaw. Mary reeling and Jill is upon her. Mary clinches desperately, trying to buy recovery time by forcing a referee’s break. Jill now starts circling around Mary, striking out with lightning punches as the groggy brunette tries to keep up. Jill landing more and more to Mary’s head, keeping her wits scrambled. Mary’s still jabbing, but she’s missing and the punches she is landing aren’t keeping Jill away. Mary backed towards the ropes, she looks to slide away, but as she turns Jill smashes her on the side of the head with a powerhouse right. Mary thrown into the ropes and slides down them to land in a crumpled heap parallel to the ropes. Cheek rests on the canvas as the referee starts counting. Mary tries to push herself up, but effort quickly falters and she is cheek against canvas as the count rolls by her.

Jill emerges from the neutral corner both arms high overhead waving in victory.

The winner: Jill Wagner KO5.

After: “I told you I would do it,” Jill says cheerfully to the press in the post-fight. “I have to admit she made it a little harder than I had expected. Winnie sure can take a punch, but as you all saw, she can’t take all the punches I dished out. My next fight? Who knows? I’ll be waiting by the phone.”

Mary Elizabeth Winstead was not immediately available for comment, but sources close to Foxfire Boxing say: “She wasn’t expecting this to happen. Now she’s lost 3 in a row. That’s not where any fighter with as much competitive spirit as Mary wants to be. She’ll work through it, we are all sure of that.”
