Claire Danes vs. Emily VanCamp
Bantamweight Title
(Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)

BEFORE:

A pair of girls who've answered all the doubters. VanCamp did little in her first FCBA run, but showed both class and ability in her return, climbing the rankings and claiming the bantamweight gold. Danes blew open the doors to the Hall of Fame with her impressive work at light, but many doubted her abilities to continue to dominate against the bigger girls at bantam. Claire immediately answered those questions by beating the division's best again and again and claiming the title herself. Among Danes' victims? VanCamp. Tonight, Emily gets the unenviable chore of trying to take that title from Danes, who's on one of her patented runs. Add in the HISC/Lookout! rivalry, and Em's plate is pretty full, not that she seems to be sweating it.

"I had her the last time we fought," says Emily with a nod. "And, I let her off the hook. This time, when I get her, and I will, I'll finish the job."

"She still can't act," says Claire with a grin. "And, frankly, she's not in my class in the ring, either. If she hadn't fouled me, she wouldn't have lasted the seven last time around. Now, I'm not going to stand here and pick a round, but, the results tonight are going to be the same."

ROUND ONE:

VanCamp immediately aggressive as she was in their last meeting. She's using that long left jab to score to Claire's face. Danes, as usual, excellent defensively and making Emily pay for every punch she throws with accurate counters. VanCamp unable to keyhole right hands, because the openings she's trying to create with the lefts just aren't there, but she shows plenty of class herself, doubling up on the left, picking off some of Danes' retorts. It's excellent, classy stuff from the two champions, no less than what you'd expect. As the round goes on, however, it's Claire who pulls ahead, scoring in combination in counter, forcing Emily to cover up at times. At the final bell, Danes has claimed a competitive first and leads 10-9.

ROUND TWO:

More classy stuff mid-ring. Emily again wants to push the action. Clear VanCamp thinks she's the harder hitter and can bring Danes to heel with her power. She's on the front foot, getting a lot behind those lead lefts, determined to create opportunities for follow up rights. Danes willing to counter-punch, and does so effectively. Both ladies now getting into a pretty good rhythm, and it's a classy back-and-forth they're treating the fans to. VanCamp able to land some of those good rights now, but she pays for them in the counter, as Danes makes sure to respond to everything Emily throws. Several good, slick exchanges down the stretch and right to the bell and beyond. Referee between them as the punching continues past the end of the round. Staredown. Both fighters warned. Round again competitive, but, this time VanCamp gets the points and we're even at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Late exchange has gotten Claire's back up, and that proves to be bad news for Emily. VanCamp's early aggression buried and suppressed in a barrage of hard, accurate counters from Danes, who quickly forces her rival onto the defensive and begins fighting lead for the first time, and it's vintage Danes we get, the left hand pistoning out, snapping back Emily's head. Right's whistling into the breech left by the left-handed shell. Emily backed up, turned, forced to cover up, and, as the round goes on, hooked more and more to the body. Danes both aggressive and clinical, every punch setting up the next. Emily can't get off, can't get any offense going. Bell brings another staredown, and the cards now show a 29-28 lead for Danes.

ROUND FOUR:

More from Claire. She gets on the lead early and refuses to let up. Emily more effective this time, though. She's finding spots to counter, and doing so effectively, but Claire is in charge throughout. Danes the proverbial well-oiled machine. Left hands extremely accurate, finding the smallest holes in VanCamp's defenses. Follow up rights perfectly-placed, sending Emily's hair bouncing. It's discouraging stuff for former champ VanCamp. She's not hurt and she's fighting hard, but she's being caught again and again and she can't get enough going in counter to slow Danes down. Down the stretch, Claire again starts banging body, punishing Emily to the ribs and midsection right to the bell. No staredown this time. VanCamp turns immediately back to her corner. Danes now up 39-37 and in control.

ROUND FIVE:

Claire continues the offensive, getting on Emily early, clearly thinking to discourage the younger woman. Danes her normal accurate, slick self, scoring with both hands and landing punches in bunches. Emily, however, refuses to cede the offensive this time and fires back in kind. The result is crowd-pleasing, high-action stuff, with both women landing a lot of hard, accurate leather. Both fighters want control, but neither will give an inch and both are willing to ship some shell in order to hold canvas. The heat simply gets turned up as the round goes on, and, down the stretch, the exchanges become blistering, and they don't stop at the bell, either. The referee is forced to leap between the fighters and send them back to their corners. There's another staredown before they turn to go. The results are close, but Claire gets the points and the 49-46 lead.

ROUND SIX:

Claire immediately looking to go on offense again, but Emily definitely bucked up by the last round goes about trying to stall out the Danes offensive. VanCamp just as aggressive as Claire, and we're right back to the heavy, back-and-forth action of the fifth. There's nothing sloppy about any of it, though. Not with these two. They aren't just exchanging bombs. They're setting punches up, showing good head, hand, and foot movement. It's all classy. And it's all effective from both sides. Again, neither woman will cede the offensive to the other, and, again, the action gets hotter as we go until, down the stretch it's just one flurry after another. This time, the fighters do stop at the bell, and, again, the results are close, but Emily manages the points and avoids a deep hole, cutting the lead to 58-56.

ROUND SEVEN:

VanCamp has built  some momentum, and she's looking to keep it rolling. She slowed Claire's offensive in the fifth, stopped it in the sixth, and is now looking to roll her armies backward. Emily's on the front foot from the opening bell, and she's sending heavy leather at the champion. Claire, clever as always, isn't going to get into a shelling contest with a lead. Instead, she's willing to fight counter, and so she does, but Emily doesn't give her much of an opportunity to do so. Instead, VanCamp unleashes a suppressive volume of leather, forcing Claire to cover up and wait for chances that mostly don't come. From bell to bell, the challenger controls the fight, getting the round via shutout and cutting the Danes lead to a single point, 67-66.

ROUND EIGHT:

What happens next will be required viewing henceforth and forthwith. Managers and trainers will use video of this round in their education and training of young fighters, because it is a literal boxing clinic and the professor is Hall of Famer Claire Danes. From the opening seconds, which feature a right hand lead to start an impressive flurry that had VanCamp covering up, it's all Claire. She responds to Emily's shut out with a little piece of absolute perfection, catching VanCamp from angles, blocking and ducking her responses, and using the resultant openings to score with more accurate leather. Danes blows everything the challenger has been able to accomplish in the last several rounds completely away with three minutes of total, shutout dominance that puts her back on top by two, 77-75.

ROUND NINE:

If VanCamp was discouraged by the results of the eighth, there's no evidence of it in the ninth. Emily comes out firing, not willing to let Claire grab the lead, but Danes isn't having any. She's not going back to the counter, not with the chance to grab this fight in these next three minutes, and the result is a virtual replay of rounds five and six, great, back and forth action, with both women scoring in combination. The battle rolls around the middle of the ring, neither woman backing up, neither able to move forward. They turn, circle, jab step, drop step, the hands and heads moving, gloves lashing out and finding keyhole targets. When the bell finally rings, it's Emily by the narrowest of margins. VanCamp has cut the lead to 86-85 with one two go.

ROUND TEN:

Danes goes immediately back to work, looking to finish this thing strong, and she has VanCamp on her back foot very quickly. Danes still fresh and strong after nine rounds, on the front foot, using the accurate left jab to set up hard right-hand follows. VanCamp thrown over to the defensive, looking to counter, but mostly being suppressed. Then, DOWN GOES DANES! About a minute and a half in, Emily lands a right hand counter that sends the champ to her back! Emily seems surprised, hesitates before getting back to a neutral corner. Danes is up at seven, and, after the mandatory, the referee waives Emily forward. VanCamp is all in, looking to finish, winging away at the champion, backing her into the ropes, looking for the off switch. Danes covering up and hanging on as VanCamp is all over her. Despite her best efforts, Emily can't finish and Claire is on her feet at the bell. The fight goes to the cards, and, when the decision is read, it's heart-breaking for Claire. 95-94, a single point, that tenth-round knockdown the difference! The winner by UD10 and NEW Unified Bantamweight Champion is Emily VanCamp!

AFTER:

Danes, still dazed from the final round, doesn't react to the decision. She simply turns back to her corner. Turning her back on VanCamp. Mistake. Emily's not done. She grabs a surprised Claire from behind in a headlock and drags her to a corner. The HISC corner is immediately in the ring, but it's cut off by the Lookout! corner. Before Danes knows it, she's tossed against the post, facing into the ring, and VanCamp is on the bottom rope and it's tummy time! Danes struggles weakly, but Emily holds her in place.

Vancamp just leaning forward, arching her tummy onto the face of a furious and dazed Danes, gliding her abs forward as she just rests them across her face. Surfing her slick torso back and forth as she leaves just Claire's eyes visible, just smiling as she watches her opponent try to push her tummy backwards. As Claire's hand shoot up, Emily intercepts her wrists and snares them tightly, pulling them up into the air to control them. Emily smiles down at her, just slapping her tummy back and forth across Claire's face with Danes' muffled cries and shouts of anger being filtered through her VanCamp's belly. As Clare struggles to push free, VanCamp just meets her gaze coolly and the two of them share an undeniable look of mutual loathing between them as Emily takes this opportunity to impose her will while she can!

As the tummy torture continues, both corners also struggle in the middle of the ring. None of this lasts long. The ring quickly fills with fighters from both sides, but, before it can explode, security acts, getting the ring cleared. Emily doesn't press her luck, having made her point, jumping down and leaving with her Lookout! stablemates. Even more importantly, she leaves with a smirk on her face and the Bantamweight Gold in her hands. Danes, very wobbly, is helped from the ring by HISC personnel, and the looks on some of their faces make clear this is far from over. Far.
