CELEBRITY BOXING AFTER DARK

Writing: Archer Results: Lookout

Before: Both fighters are anxious for a win tonight. Shelley has a history of pageant boxing (she’s a former Miss Teen USA) , soap boxing (“Days of Our Lives”) and, more recently stints at The CW (“The Secret Circle”) and MTV (“Teen Wolf”). Yet, her only FCBA fight was a 2012 KO6 over starlet Sarah Jones.—until tonight.

“It’s not like I’ve been sitting around,” Shelley says defensively, “they had me over at ‘General Hospital’ fighting with their prize prospect Kelly Thiebaud just last month and I won a TKO over her. I get called in for private bouts all the time. Nothing some Hollywood VIP’s like for their parties than hot girls boxing and I’ve done just fine at them. You should have seen me vs Crystal Reed at last season’s ‘Teen Wolf’ wrap party! I made sure no one was TOO sorry she was leaving the show and I was coming on board. Still, it’s not the ‘Big Show’ and that’s where I wanted to be. So being in this fight and WINNING this fight is really important to me. I don’t know much about Alesha Dixon, but I know she has had a ton more fights than me. I feel I am a definite underdog going in, but that’s just going to make winning more sweet.”

For Alesha Dixon, the veteran British celeb fighter is something of a legend back home, but she hasn’t had much luck Stateside. (Her most recent attempts ending in a KO9 loss to Caity Lotz and a devastating KO6 defeat by Lyndsy Fonseca).

“It’s my pride,” Alesha says, “I want to win wherever I go and whoever I am fighting. I haven’t tried fighting in the USA very much, but this time I am determined to succeed. My losses to Lotz and Fonsecsa have only made me more determined than ever to succeed here. No, I don’t know this Shelley person. I don’t have to. All I need to know is that when she goes down and can’t get up I will have my first FCBA win and that’s going to be thrill.”

Shelley in bright orange bikini, black shoes and gloves, hair pulled back and tied with an orange ribbon. Alesha in leopard print bikini, white gloves and shoes. Hair pulled back and tied with white ribbon. Two fighters look eager during ring instructions and hurry back to their corners to await the bell.

R1: Shelley and Alesha out quickly at the opening bell and start firing leather at center ring. Shelley using her long legs to lean in and out as she punches at Alesha. Alesha bobbing and weaving, trying to get the range on the elusive American. Shelley landing punches wherever she can find an opening, mostly to the body, but then she tries to force her punches in under Alesha’s high guard to reach her chin. Shelley finally gets to that chin and knocks British fighter’s head back, putting her on the defensive. Shelley tries to take advantage but is met with fierce resistance. The two punch toe-to-toe until Shelly finally forces Alesha to step back. Only the bell stops the action. Narrow win for Shelly on the cards.

R2: Alesha tries to take the offensive and presses Shelley back towards the ropes with non-stop punch bombardment. Shelley dodges or deflects a good many of Alesha’s punches, but enough get through to make her cheekbones start to redden and her lower lip split. Shelley hammering Alesha’s breasts and belly, but then Alesha begins to get her own fire into Shelley’s ribs just under her raised elbows. Steady rib work finally obliges Shelley to make a fighting withdraw. Very nice action that goes Alesha’s way on the cards.

R3: Shelley comes on strong from the outset. She lands a lunging right cross that smashes Alesha’s jaw left until it meets Shelley’s left hook and the British fighter is stumbling inside the first minute. Shelley tries to get more into Alesha’s chin, but the veteran ducks down behind her guard and uses her jab to keep younger woman at bay. Shelley then shifts in circling, using feints and unexpected lunges to tag Alesha mainly to the body, but late in the round she rings Alesha’s skull with some bouncing shots. Alesha stays on the defensive except for her jabs and other counters, just trying to recover from that opening one-two. Shelly Hennig takes round by a wide margin.

R4: Shelley looking confident now as she closes in on Alesha, but the British fighter stuns the American with some blazing rights and lefts into the upper ribs. Shelley wincing in pain tries to hunch up to protect her throbbing flanks, but this allows Alesha to maintain the offensive and she is smacking Shelley’s face around at points, making those cheekbones swell. Shelley striking back late, finding Alesha’s tummy and sinks her gloves again and again into the chocolately flesh. Alesha doesn’t like it, but doesn’t back away, continuing to batter the American. Rounds ends with a wide win on points for Alesha.

R5: Now Alesha’s turn to look confident only to walk into a buzz saw as Shelley Hennig comes charging at her with some well-directed shots that carom off Alesha’s head. Alesha clearly caught by surprise, goes spinning towards the ropes and instinctively reaches out to brace herself against the top strand. She then turns only to take it to the belly and jaw from Shelly Hennig. Alesha’s knees buckle but she clinches Shelley to force a referee’s break and buy herself some time. Even so, Alesha fighting desperately to keep Shelley from landing a finishing punch. It’s a desperate defense, but Alesha’s looking determined, not panicky. Shelley throwing every thing she can at Alesha. She’s scoring a lot of points, but she’s not doing the kind of damage she needs to land to get a KO. Alesha sweaty, bleeding from a cut along the hairline, but she makes an effort to walk firmly back to her corner, Shelley panting and looking frustrated as she returns to her corner, but she does take the round by a wide margin.

R6: Fierce battle from the start of this stanza. Alesha and Shelley circling, firing punches, then getting in close to bang to the body. Alesha’s steady work on Shelley’s ribs finally pays off in the second minute when a blockbuster right crashes home and Shelley drops to her knees with a cry of pain. American kneeling there, arms wrapped around her body and trying to shut out the fiery pain in her flank. The referee has been counting and when Shelley realizes what is happening she makes it up by 9. Shelley stands there looking wide-eyed on swaying legs, but when ref asks if she can go on, she snaps:

“Yes, I can. Now get out of our way.”

Alesha careful not to just rush in, but she does maintain a steady punch rate than slowly swamps Shelley’s defenses. Shelley retreating, jabbing, and trying to block Alesha’s in-coming. Shelley steadies late in the round, but the knockdown gives Alesha the round.

R7: Shelley makes a great effort to get back in this fight by making a fierce attack on Alesha at the opening of this round. She manages to freeze Alesha with a series of rising hooks to the belly and a particularly effective one to the solar plexus. Alesha then gets her head banged around by lefts and rights, but then Alesha clips Shelley on the chin and the American stutter steps back. Alesha shaking off fog in her brain and putting leather on Shelley’s head. Shelley reeling as she tries to trade distance for time, but she’s leaving her jaw wide-open and Alesha is heaving powerful rights and lefts. Shelley’s head whipping around, hair coming loose and splattering wetly around her face. Then Alesha cuts Shelley off and lands more heavy punches to her jaw, Shelley’s long kegs lock up and she spins down to sprawl on her face. Alesha with a hopeful look on her face goes to neutral corner, watching as referee starts to count. Anxious moments for British fighter, as the American fighter stirs, pushes herself up of the canvas, wet tendrils of hair across her glazed eyes. Shelley tries to force her legs to move, but they won’t cooperate. She hangs her head in defeat as the count goes to 10.

The winner: Alesha Dixon KO7.

After: Alesha Dixon erupts with joy at her first FCBA win. She happily hugs the referee, hoists a very surprised Shelley Hennig to her feet and hugs her. She then leads a protesting Shelley around the ring on more of a Victory Walk than a Walk of Shame (though Ms, Hennig doesn’t seem to appreciate the difference). Alesha cheerfully gives Shelley a teasing slap on her orange bottoms at the end of the walk to send her stumbling into the arms of her corner people. Cheers and laughter pour down on Alesha and she relishes every one of them.

“Winning is definitely something to relish, especially a win like this one. Shelley’s a decent kid, but she just couldn’t take my punching power. I’m sure she’ll do better against girls who can’t hurt her like I did,” Alesha tells the press. “Who is next? We’ll have to see who steps up now. I’m ready for whoever it is. Alesha Dixon is here and she’s winning big!”

As for Shelley Hennig: “I lost and I don’t like it. I and sure didn’t like being dragged around the ring and having my butt slapped. I refuse to sulk about it, but I’m not forgetting it either!”

Good win for Alesha Dixon who may finally be about to make her mark on this side of the Atlantic. Good effort, from young Shelley Hennig, but a disappointment as she had Alesha hurt at times, but couldn’t seem to land the punch that might have gotten her a victory,
