Nicki Minaj (Punchaholics Anonymous) vs America Ferrera

(Words Anon, Results Lookout!)

"I have to say that she looks tough," said newcomer America Ferrera. "I mean, she's got some stage presence. But I don't know if that's enough to win a fight. And I'm here, so obviously her image didn't scare me off!"

"You know, she's pretty and talented," said returning fighter Nicki Minaj. "So I don't have a personal problem with her. So after this fight got arranged I had to psyche myself up a little bit to want to really go after her. And I think I'm mentally and physically ready."

Minaj entered the ring in pink trunks and bra, followed shortly after by Ferrera in red, each greeted with cheers from their fans.

Round 1:

Ferrera came out of her corner fighting, but Minaj seemed determined to pace herself, fading away from her opponent's stronger attacks and slipping around or blocking the others. After one of Ferrera's blows glanced off of her left glove harmlessly and slid past her ear, Nicki moved to punish her opponent, striking her straight in the nose. Ferrera winced and backed away, warning her opponent to stay back with a wild aimless swing to cover her retreat. With the tone of the round set, Minaj kept a slow but steady pace, landing a few blows here and there as the timer ticked down.

Round 2:

With her opponent off balance, Minaj continued to slowly wear her down in the beginning of the second round. Still having difficulty getting her offense to work, Ferrera slugged away at Minaj's guard, occasionally rewarded with a blow to the side of the head for her efforts. After being backed into a corner, Ferrera began to get desperate, shoving Minaj back to give herself space. The rapper, possibly looking to take more definite control of the match, swung a left cross at Ferrera's head. However, this time the actress was ready, and she slipped past Minaj's attack to punish her with a left hook to the jaw. Having lost control of the fight, Minaj swung with her right fist to drive her opponent back, only to miss and have her own head snapped back sharply by Ferrera's retort. Covering herself up, Minaj cut her losses and finished the round trading conservative jabs with her opponent.

Round 3:

With each fighter having tallied a round for herself, the third round began with each fighter attempting to repeat what had worked for her in the past. Minaj jabbed at Ferrera's guard, but her opponent had abandoned her wild offense and the blows thudded against her gloves harmlessly. Still, she was busy enough to be unable to respond meaningfully. Finally, both fighters decided to up the stakes. As they met in the center of the ring, counting on speed and a first strike to protect them, the crowd roared in approval of the wild action. However, Ferrera's fans were even happier, as her swing caught Minaj on the chin a fraction of a second before the rapper's own attack would have hit, causing her to flinch and miss. Ferrera got in close while Minaj was stunned, hammering away at her midsection for a moment before Minaj could push her away. Minaj was clearly shaken, but she stayed on her feet, not daring to make a big play for the remainder of the round.

Round 4:

Behind in points, Minaj was in obvious need of a comeback. Though she seemed unwilling to risk a repeat of the last round, she managed to maintain her pace and harass Ferrera from a safe distance. Ferrera found herself spending her time covering up to avoid a series of swings that would no doubt have her worn down in no time should they connect. Now breathing hard and showing less of the energy she had in earlier rounds, Ferrera finally made the mistake that Minaj had been waiting for. Falling for a feint, the actress left herself open to a right hook from Minaj that struck the side of her head and left her open to a follow up. Minaj happily took her opportunity, pounding away at Ferrera's ribs and head as she backed the woman into a corner. Ferrera narrowly escaped, possibly avoiding a beating that would cost her the fight, and began to circle the center of the ring. Shortly after, the round ended, and Ferrera limped back to her corner, hands loose at her sides.

Round 5:

The fifth round began with Ferrera in trouble. Not fully recovered from the last round, the actress was showing definite signs of slowing down. Still, she kept up enough of an offense to stay in the fight. The two boxers circled and jabbed at each other, with Minaj slowly pulling ahead with each exchange. Finally, following up a jab with an unexpected cross, Minaj struck Ferrera on the cheek and sent her head wobbling. Ferrera stepped forward, swinging wildly for a moment before stumbling and landing on her hands and knees. After Minaj calmly waited out Ferrera's standing eight count, there was little time left in the round, and once again Ferrera survived to continue fighting.

Round 6:

Again, Ferrera rejoined the fight despite her weakened state. However, Minaj was still going strong, and was easily able to fade away from her slower attacks. The rapper seemed confident taking her time and allowing her opponent to wear herself out. Finally, after a grueling round for the actress, Minaj moved to finish things. As she took a direct swing at Ferrera's head, the actress attempted a counter attack to drive her away, but before she could land her swing, Minaj had stunned her with a solid blow to the nose. Taking another desperate swing at the air, Ferrera was an easy target for a left hook from Minaj to the temple. The rapper knocked the actress head to the side, then followed up with an uppercut that landed perfectly under her chin. Ferrera stumbled once and tipped over backwards, landing on her back. With great effort, she rose halfway to a sitting position, only to collapse and spend the remainder of the count lying helpless with her arms splayed. KO6 Nicki Minaj!

With Ferrera slowly recovering, eventually sitting upright and finally struggling to return to her corner, Minaj took a walk around the ring, fists raised over her head. As her fans celebrated, Minaj returned to her corner, pumping her fist in the air excitedly at a particularly loud group of fans. Once things had died down, Minaj addressed the press. "I hope she stays, actually. This place could use some real talent. She's obviously a brave fighter and she put everything she had into the match. And it was a rough one for her, but I don't think she's going to be scared off." Minaj declined questions on her next move, simply stating that "Management and I will look at our options."
