"As a performer I'm used to going all out to keep the audience happy," commented Anna Popplewell before the fight. "So boxing has been an adjustment for me, because in the ring I'm trying my hardest to send my opponent's fans home disappointed. But I think I'm used to the weirdness by now, and that's why I'm really excited for this fight. Obviously going up against a former champion and experienced fighter like Alyson is a real challenge, but it's also a great chance to showcase my skills."

"She's a cute kid with some potential, so it's great to see her getting some exposure," said Alyson Hannigan in her pre-fight interview. "But I'm not here to mess around, so it's my job to hand her a setback. Nothing career ending or anything, just a trip back a few steps to slug it out with other unproven talent. I'm sure she'll claw her way out of that mess when she's ready if she's serious."

Popplewell entered the ring in light blue trunks and bra, looking excited and giving the crowd a wave before warming up. Hannigan, a little bit more serious but cordial nevertheless, entered shortly after wearing white.

Round 1:
The fight got off to a brisk start as both fighters simultaneously decided on a fast pace, each striking the other's guard while carefully defending herself. While the action continued at a relative stalemate during the early parts of the round, Hannigan took control of things with a right hand sliding past her opponent's guard and striking her on the jaw. Popplewell rallied well, but was off balance enough that she took a glancing blow to the side of the head before recovering her defenses fully. While the younger actress managed to land the odd jab from time to time, she left the first round needing to turn things around.

Round 2:
Once again both fighters dove straight into the action, trading attacks in the center of the ring and steadfastly refusing to back down. For a second time, Popplewell held up well for the first minute. However, as the round progressed, Hannigan would often sneak a quick jab or counter past her defenses. Popplewell was able to continue to fight without difficulty, but she clearly lacked an answer to Hannigan's offense.

Round 3:
The third round began in the same manner as the first two, but one difference quickly emerged. This time around, Hannigan was not making progress. Popplewell, clinging to the stalemate with all of her might, was finally standing up to Hannigan effectively. In fact, a few exchanges towards the middle of the round actually went the younger actress' way, though she never put so much as a dent in Hannigan's ability to fight.

Round 4:
In the fourth round Popplewell fell behind again. When Hannigan struck her solidly in the jaw early in the round, she sent a message to the audience that she was back, even if it didn't slow Popplewell down. However, taking the worst of several exchanges did take its toll on the younger actress. By the end of the round, Popplewell was showing clear signs of wear and tear. The only good news for the younger actress was that Hannigan was starting to run out of steam as well, blunting the damage slightly.

Round 5:
Popplewell opened the fifth round by slipping a straight punch through Hannigan's guard, earning herself a round of cheers from the crowd as well as an off balance opponent. Taking advantage of the second, Popplewell chased Hannigan down for a second try, scoring a solid head shot before Hannigan could rally enough to driver her off. Throughout the round, Hannigan's responses were comparatively sluggish -- she was not the energetic fighter that she had been in the first round. Popplewell, however, had plenty of gas left in the tank, and was able to consistently score the hits she worked for, even making Hannigan stumble to keep her balance from a hook to the temple late in the round.

Round 6:
Hannigan's troubles continued in round six; she clearly had not recovered from the beating she had taken in the previous round. Faced with an opponent who was slow to respond, Popplewell was able to pick her shots freely. She knocked Hannigan's head backwards with a straight punch, knocking it to the side again just as Hannigan recovered. Apparently willing to take her time, Popplewell backed off when Hannigan rallied, only to return to assault her further. A solid punch to the chin proved to be more than Hannigan could take, and she collapsed on her side, going limp before she hit the ground. Popplewell, ecstatic, pumped a fist in the air and circled back to her corner with a wide grin on her face. For a moment, her celebration looked to be premature; Hannigan had regained consciousness and was attempting to rise. However, by the count of ten, she had not made it past her hands and knees, giving Popplewell the victory by KO6.

Hannigan, responsive but in no condition to do so much as lift a limb, sat in her corner. After a short celebration on Popplewell's side, the winner of the fight joined Hannigan, seeming concerned for her well being. They exchanged some words that ended in a hug -- Hannigan, still not steady enough to stand, had little choice on whether to accept -- but no amount of pleasantries could brighten the mood in Hannigan's corner. The veteran fighter had another loss to add to a multi-year streak, this one to a relative newcomer.

"My first real knockout! Wow!" exclaimed a giddy Popplewell in an interview after the fight. "I know Emma and Nicole are down as KOs on my official scoreboard, but they stayed on their feet. This is totally different!" Taking a deep breath, the actress calmed down slightly. "I'm really glad I was able to do this, especially after a couple of bad fights. Definitely looking forward to more of the same in the future!"
