Cassie Scerbo (Bazz Fight Club) vs. Emily Osment (Unmanaged, FCBA)
(Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)

BEFORE:

Osment RESPECTFUL. Pretty blonde making her FCBA debut doesn't want any of a war of words with the Scerbonator. "I'm very happy to get my first FCBA fight, and it's an honor to get one against a fighter as great as Cassie. I know I'll be a heavy underdog, but I'll do my best and try to give her and the fans a fight."

Scerbo not going to be sucked in to the mutual admiration society, or to bashing a cute little blonde who's saying all the right things. "She's obviously a respectable opponent, or this fight wouldn't have been booked," Cassie says with a smile. "But, a LOT of respectable opponents have looked downright Disrespected when I got finished with them."

ROUND ONE:

Osment not tall for fly, but she's big for the weight. Walks around about mid-bantam and has to drop five pounds or so to make 110. She's all of that tonight, no question, and she wants to bring it to bear against the more-experienced blonde. Scerbonator, however, having none of it. Because, while Emily's plenty sturdy, she's nowhere near as quick and athletic as Cassandra Lynn. What happens for the next three minutes is just shy of Sugar Ray Leonard pointing to his chin and daring Roberto Duran to hit it. Scerbo doesn't do anything that obvious, but she does everything else. She's there and gone. There and gone. Osment stalks patiently, trying to cut Cassie off, but she can't come close to doing it. Instead, Scerbo, well, strikes. She bounces in, lands a quick flurry, forces Emily to cover up, and then is long gone before Osment can counter. The first is downright discouraging to the Osment corner. Their girl is plenty game, but she can't find Scerbo, can't close, can't run her down. Instead, she's peppered with punches for three minutes and sent back to her corner like a naughty child. Scerbo 10-9.

ROUND TWO:

Cassie circling, popping the jab, dancing. Oh, how she dances. She shuffles, bounces, reverses, if this were "Dancing With The Stars", she'd get perfect tens. Problem is, Cassie, as she sometimes does, gets in that zone and forgets to work. She's moving, making Emily chase, but, unlike the first round, she's not getting any leather home. Osment isn't doing much either, mind, because Scerbo is there and gone the entire round, just as she was in the first, but Emily IS aggressively chasing, throwing her jab, trying to locate and cut the ring. Cassie's mostly just dancing, all "you can't catch me", and doing everything to prove that save stick out her tongue as she avoids Osment, makes her miss, dances around her, and otherwise proves hard to hit. She's not trying to embarrass the girl, per se, but it isn't exactly making her look good. But, again, the problem is the lack of punching from Scerbo. Little leather of any kind finds the mark in the second, but, at the bell, the judges give the round to the girl who was more aggressive, and Osment has evened this thing at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Osment still working hard and Scerbo still hardly working. The more experienced blonde again proving almost impossible to bring to battle or even mark with leather, but Emily keeps trying. She's stalking, working to cut that ring. But, she mostly can't. Again, though, Cassie's doing everything you can do with her feet and next to nothing with her hands. The corner begins getting on her about half way through the round, telling her to get busy, but Scerbo continues her dancing. She's popping the jab out on occasion, landing a few, just as Osment's landing a few of her own in the rare occasions that she can find the Bazz girl, but, again, we see three minutes of positioning, maneuvering, and movement, and almost no action. Few punches are thrown and even fewer find targets. When the bell rings and both fighters return to their corners, one gets a talking to, and it's not Osment. One also gets the round on the judges' cards. And it's not Scerbo. Emily now leads 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Cassie gets busy. Now, we're back to first round Cassandra Lynn. She's still all movement, but now that movement is paired with punching. The flurries are short and quick. They are also effective. Osment gets touched up again and again. Give the newbie credit, though. She never stops working. She never stops stalking, trying to bring Cassie to battle. But, Scerbo too quick. Too slick. Bing bing bing. Three quick punches. Osment fires back, short, because Cassie's out of dodge. Pop. Pop. Pop. Three more quick punches. Osment never gets off, because Cassie is long gone. This is how good Scerbo is. How quick. How athletic. She doesn't move so much as glide. And it all happens so quickly. Blink and you miss it. Hell, sometimes you don't HAVE to blink, and you STILL miss it. But, not much misses Osment. Scerbo's gloves find the target again and again, and, by the end of the round, Emily's looking discouraged. It's still anyone's fight, though. 38-38.

ROUND FIVE:

Scerbo busy again, and that's bad news for a game Emily. Osment SO wants to get this ring cut off and get some exchanges going. She knows how solid and strong she is for the weight, and she wants to get some leather on her opponent in the worst way. But. That involves finding her. And Shaggy and the whole freakin' Scooby Gang would have major problems solving that little mystery. Because Cassie's everywhere and nowhere. She's never where you want her to be, and always JUST where you don't want her to be. The ring is standard size, 23x23. But Scerbo makes it look like a soccer field with ropes. There's just so much SPACE for her to get into, and she's always in it. Those ropes might as well be in Jersey for as much good as they're doing Osment. Scerbo's never anywhere near them. She's always in open water, where she's at her most dangerous. At the bell, Emily's face puffy. That look of discouragement even more pronounced. Scerbo leads 48-47.

ROUND SIX:

"Get to work, Cassie!" "Let your hands go!" "Stop dancing around!" Those are the words shouted from the Bazz corner throughout the sixth, because their blonde beauty is in that zone again, that freeze-tag "you can't catch me" zone. And, indeed, Emily can NOT catch her. And what's most amazing about that is that after more than 15 minutes of non-stop movement, Scerbo hasn't slowed a bit. She can, clearly, dance all night if she wants to, and, at the moment, that's exactly what she wants to do. Osment, on the other hand, is going to go home and immediately delete all episodes of "Dancing With The Stars" from her DVR. She's also going to delete "Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats from her Ipod. She's THAT sick of dancing. Or, more to the point, of chasing Cassie Scerbo as SHE dances. But, give the kid credit. She keeps trying. She keeps working, continues her efforts to create a set-piece battle where she can bring her power to bear. It doesn't happen. Nor does anything else. The judges basically throw their hands up at the complete lack of scoring and call the round a draw. 58-57 Scerbo. It feels bigger. But, the key is. It isn't.

ROUND SEVEN:

Scerbo stops dancing. Osment can't believe her luck. The plucky newb works forward behind her left jab and brings Scerbo to battle for the first time all night. She lands some solid punches in some good exchanges. THIS is the fight Emily wanted. THESE are terms she likes, and she immediately ups the work rate, getting off with both hands. Scerbo responds in kind, and, for the first time all night, we get heavy fire and good flurries. And then Emily finds out another thing about Cassie Scerbo. She doesn't just have fast feet. She has fast hands. And, her hands aren't just fast. They're HEAVY, man, HEAVY. BOOM! It's a lightning fast right hand that catches Osment on the chin. Head swivel. Down goes Emily! Osment has no idea what hit her. Never saw the punch. But she felt it. One. Two. Three. How many lights ARE there above this ring? Osment has time to count them all, as she lays there, eyes glassy, staring at the ceiling while the count passes her by. It's over. And your winner by KO7 is Cassie Scerbo!

AFTER:

Scerbo shows class, going over to the corner to check on the newb before doing her post-fight interview. "I knew I  was too quick for her," she says with that gorgeous smile. "She's game. And she can hit hard. She's going to do things in this federation if she gets opportunities. But, I'm just too fast, too strong, too good today. And, I'm going to be watching that flyweight tournament, girls. Very closely. Very."
