We're ready to kick off the Lioness anniversary card in Barnet with couple of welterweights entering the ring first. Alex Curran still thinks she's got an outside chance of getting into the divisional title picture before too long but it's absolutely essential she gives Suranne Jones a good thumping tonight. The dark-haired Coronation Street actress remains one of the women to beat in the welters even though she's barely above par in the pecking order but isn't afraid to mix it with anyone and her recent victory over arch nemesis Lucy Pargeter was as good as it gets.

 
Both women are two of the most active in the division and allthough Alex would like to send Suranne into retirement mood there's little chance of that happening, in fact the brunette promises to upset the blonde model in over the top confident fashion which leaves Georgie Thompson bemused in the BBU TV booth.

Alex Curran wears a red bikini set and black gloves. Suranne Jones wears a silver bikini top, black hotpants and white gloves. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.

Round 1
Suranne wants to surprise the blonde and squares up to her immediately after the bell jabbing at the rack and making early connection. Alex works the overhand response but Suranne ducks low and digs her mitts into the blonde's jugs before puming more blows on the ribcage. The spirited assault forces the blonde into retreat as she swings wide off the mark and eats imminient follow up courtesy of Suranne's hook on the jaw. Curran can't escape the early onslaught at all and gets backed into the ropes with the brunette jabbing at her body and clipping the jugs again. The KO Club is stunned by Jones' high-tempo action and Alex is simply trapped for remainder of the round without any idea how to stop the raging actress.

Round 2:
Alex ups the work rate and accepts a rapid fire exchange as Suranne jumps into another aggressive charge to keep her momentum alive. The brunette's head snaps back a couple of times though with Alex finding some accurate jabs but the response is equally vicious and a left handed piledriver nails the Merseyside model on the brow ridge. Both women try to chop each other down in a classic flyweight fashion but the actress finds more precision and splits the blonde's arms and whacks her on the jugs again to wobble a visibly cumbersome Curran forward and drives more shots on the cleavage to push her foe back onto the ropes again where she cleans out her breadbasket and quite frankly Alex looks as hapless as her husband's team without Luis Suarez this season and Suranne runs away with another round pumping heavy leather against the body.

Round 3:
Suranne has found her rhythm and jabs at the body at will pushing a lacklustre blonde all aroud the KO Club ring during the opening minute but she fails to land the heavy shots on the face and falls into a wicked response as Alex jumps into a desperate counter fuelled by the crowd's negative reactions. She smacks Jones' left eye and drives an uppercut off the chin but the brunette refuses to retreat and leans on the model with more hooks aimed at the boobs. She skims off the forearms though and eats a clubbing right cross on the nose which staggers her briefly and enables the blonde to pour in with midriff assault herself. Jones is pummelled back to the ropes but avoids more trouble by spiking the model's ribcage and locking a clinch late on to prevent any further damage.

Round 4:
Alex fakes a low approach and smacks Suranne's chin with another uppercut, bumps into her chest wobbling her backwards and drives in with a clubbing hook on the nose that throws the brunette into mid-range escape. Some quick footwork enables the model to walk her foe down and Suranne leaps into more aggressive jabs aimed at the body but Curran stands tall and halts her with overhand slaps that punish the brunettes cheeks and force her into earmuff cover down the stretch. Alex maintains her footwork dominance and belts the actress around the ring thereafter but fails to hurt Jones who thinks better of it and prefers to weather the model storm rather that brawl it out in overzealous punching fashion.

Round 5:
Jones remains on the back foot trying to let Curran wear herself out but the model squares up to her and thumps the arms aside bouncing off the cheeks and snapping the head back repeatedly in close range. A clubbing hook on the temple makes the brunette moan and suddenly she realizes she's fallen into a deep hole with Alex working uppercuts on the chest to drop Suranne's arms. Another left handed hook nails Jones on the temple and as she lifts her head and tries to jab at the chin herself another hook catches her on the other ear and ragdolls to the canvas... JONES IS DOWN and that's slightly unexpected as Alex showed very little fire power up to this point. But it's the welters on display and one punch can turn any fight around much to the Barnet crowd's delight. Suranne's up at six and wants to tear into the model as quickly as possible but an overhand swing goes nowhere and Alex rips into her cheeks instead and bats back against the turnbuckle with the brunette now getting loud in discomfort as Curran cleans her up and leaves a little groggy at the bell thanks to another facial combo.

Round 6:
Suranne looks battled weary after that tough previous round but still wants to punish the blonde who's much quicker on her feet now and easily avoids the brunette's efforts before looping overhands against her cheeks and staggering her even further. Suranne's feet are left behind as she leans too far forward and Alex belts her on the chest before finding the temple and sending Jones into a shimmy shake retreat. Blonde reaches out and makes more temple connection as the punches start to add up and pummel the actress back to the ropes where Curran lays more leather on the tummy and leaves Suranne gasping for air. The older woman tries to clinch but gets belted on the navel repeatedly now and looks in all kinds of bother at the bell walking slowly back to her corner.

Round 7:
Alex rains punches on the worn out brunette and slices her arms to thump the cleavage as Suranne tries to cover up but fails to prevent all the blonde leather punishing her guts. Curran strikes over the top after sinking Jones deep on her knees and finds more jabs on the temple to increase the level of moans before finally pumping a hard right hand on the nose that whips Suranne back and sends her spinning onto the ropes. Jones tries to jump to safety but she's too slow and Curran wrenches her with a left hand on the nose again that brings out a dramatic scream from the brunette before a clubbing right hook tags the jaw AND SENDS JONES CRASHING ON HER SIDE with eyes closed.... Ugh! The KO Club errupts in joy as Suranne can't beat the count and remains laid on her side to mark the end of this contest. KO7 Alex Curran!!!

AFTER: Alex looks very composed given the high-profile nature of this duell but she firmly believed she's a superior fighter to Suranne long before tonight's result. In fact Suranne doesn't look like she can take much punishment in the ring these days and even getting on top of Lucy Pargeter won't bail her out of the mediocre rankings. Alex was touted as a welter title prospect more often than not but her somewhat sluggish approach has cost her some fights before yet when it matters the blonde model can dish out some heavy blows and Suranne Jones remains one of the most active women in the division so it's always good to take her scalp regardless of the circumstances. The Lioness faithful go one up on the night and the odds are on Mel B. to really punish Natasha Hamilton next to keep the local fans in jubilant fashion.
