BBU ROOKIE FIGHT NIGHT FROM CARDIFF

Denise van Outen predicted Ellie Goulding joining the BBU ranks several months ago already but the 27 year old blonde took her time in accepting the debut fight since training as independent hasn't worked all that well for some girls and Ellie does seem a bit nervous while entering the Cardiff ring for the very first time tonight. Diana Vickers was one of her intended opponents from the very first day in the gym and the Frankie's Foxes blonde hasn't had anything to write home about thus far but believes she's gonna knock the stuffing out of Ellie on her debut which should save her career from complete obscurity.

Both girls have agreed to fight only six rounds, Ellie's confidence doesn't seem all that high and that's a rare sight among the BBU roster but Denise van Outen thinks the Hereford based blonde should waste no more than four rounds in beating Vickers to a pulp. That's a bold statement from the veteran reporter however van Outen knows more about BBU than anyone and perhaps it's good that Diana didn't hear those predictions otherwise she'd get more nervous than Golding!

Diana Vickers wears a white basque top, matching knickers and blue gloves. Blonde hair in loose curls. Ellie Goulding wears an all black basque top, matching boy-leg trunks and red gloves. Blonde hair tied in a high ponytail. The fight is scheduled for six rounds in the bantamweight division.

Round 1:
Both girls are happy to trade weak punches early on until Diana finally digs into her experience and ups the ante spiking Ellie on the chest and pushing her backwards. A couple of hooks bounce off Ellie's chin but as Diana wants to lean on her and really punish the rookie she gets caught by an overhand jab on the nose that even Goulding knew very little of. Suddenly Ellie kicks into higher gear and slams her mitts against Diana's cheeks and prevents getting trapped on the ropes, she dekes to the side and attacks her opponent's ribcage to close the distance and shove an annoyed Vickers back to center of the ring. Both girls jump into one last charge but only Goulding finds the connection and snaps Diana's head back with a piercing hook that brings a smile on her face and could finally help her get rid of those rookie nerves.

Round 2:
Diana improves her intensity and targets Ellie's guts but skims off the forearms before getting caught on the face again as Goulding finds her stride and settles in a superior rhythm pounding Vickers back and forth through the opening minute. Diana struggles to make any meanungful connection and circles back in avoidance; Ellie in a steady but somewhat half-hearted pursuit that lands her single punches on the guard only and enables Vickers to reset her tactics. She jumps into a late flurry on Goulding's face and snaps her head to the side with a clubbing hook on the temple before a follow up catches the chin and spins Ellie onto the ropes. Diana clatters into her chest with more jabs but gets clinched and fails to make more progress before the round is over.

Round 3:
Goulding really needs to commit to her efforts according to Denise van Outen and she follows that idea by jumping into a punching meance at Vickers' expense; two blonde suddenly pour facial leather at each other but Diana's moans indicate she gets the short end of the stick in that exchange as Ellie slams her on the mouth repeatedly and reels back towards the ropes. This time Diana loses her footing in escape and gets wrenched with a right hook on the eye that whips her to the side and unable to prevent more Goulding punches backing her butt-in-ropes down the stretch. Ellie traps her foe and goes for the midsection assault, bends an aching Vickers forward and strikes her over the top on both temples leaving Diana sagging and moaning at the bell. Another smile for Ellie as she struts back to her corner and that's more like it should be according to van Outen even though Vickers is far from being mauled into a pulp like her pre-fight analysis predicted.

Round 4:
Ellie's not scared to stalk her rival anymore and the aggressive approach traps Diana in more trouble as Goulding bats her mitts aside and makes more facial connection in close range. Diana tries to clinch the fellow blonde but earns herself a brief respite only as she gets nailed on the mouth again and just wobbles back to the ropes showing inferior resistance. Ellie rushes her charge and bounces off Diana's shoulder, eats a combo on the boobs and wobbles forward into Diana herself pressing her into the ropes and actually letting the girl off the hook as Vickers refuses to let go and gets lectured once the ref manages to separate them. Vickers on the run afterwards, she ducks underneath Goulding's high jabbing and spikes her on the ribs before circling back away from the ropes and that's a classic rookie mistake from Ellie who doesn't chase Diana down anymore before the round is over.

Round 5:
Both girls exchange wild punches in a sudden turn of events as Vickers decided to increase her efforts and Goulding duly accepted the challenge. The rookie blonde proves more effective though and gives Diana a fat lip on the minute mark after one cross hook combo too many breaks Diana's guard and traps her in Goulding fire afterwards. Diana's knees starts to buckle as Ellie gets vocal for the first time tonight and buries sharp punches on her foe's face and pounds her back to the ropes to complete the fine assault. Vickers seeks another clinch but gets stunned by an uppercut combo on the boobs and squeals in her demise; Ellie goes wicked instead and finds more merciless uppercuts on the chin to dismantle the fellow blonde's guard and leave her sobbing and gasping for air at the bell. Diana just sags against the ropes as Ellie tries to catch her breath too but that was a big round for the rookie and Denise van Outen couldn't be more happy about it, the BBU TV anchor woman openly supports Goluding and there's nobody in Cardiff to question her alleged neutrality.

Round 6:
Vickers needs a huge round to salvage a decision victory but Goulding pulled the plug on her with that late barrage and now keeps hassling the younger blonde around the ring with Diana aching and struggling to mount any comeback. It doesn't look like she'd be capable of going more than six rounds regardless of the pre-fight agreement and Ellie lands more facial success after trapping Vickers with a belting hook on the ribs to stagger her in the middle of the ring. Clean striking from the rookie rocks Vickers' boobs and drops her arms to pave the way for an uppercut switch and make her gurgle in despair as Goulding pounds her back to the turnbucle and charges with more cross hooks on the cheeks. Diana gets pummelled back & forth as her gloves only protect the chest and just won't raise high enough to prevent Ellie's wrath from punching Vickers out of her senses. Goulding loses her temper as she truly believes in a grand stand finish but switching to rack assault makes no sense when Diana's head rolls forward and is on best display to earn the knockout. Ellie buries a hapless opponent against the turnbuckle but suddenly stops and indicates she hurt her wrist, one last left hook nails Diana on the already busted up lips and that's all they wrote tonight because the clock expires with Vickers on verge of a complete disaster and Goulding shouting at her before turning back to the audience and accepting their ovation with a big smile on her pretty face. Comes back UD6 Ellie Goulding!!!

AFTER: Denise van Outen acts like a president of Ellie's fan club despite some obvious flaws in the rookie's maiden BBU bout. A see-saw mental approach has let Diana Vickers off the hook a couple of times and that won't cut it anymore against superior opponents. Moreover there's lack of core strenght behind Ellie's punches since she wasted her chances to send Diana for the count and more importantly she missed a home run when she should have knocked Vickers' head off and punished her boobs instead like she'd watched too many Helen Flanagan fights during her preparations. But all this doesn't change the outcome and the fact Denise van Outen already touts Vickers' former Garnet Gunners UK stablemate Gabriella Cilmi into giving Ellie a chance before too long. There's little chance Cilmi accepts a shortened six round contest though and Goulding's durability remains questionable even though she looked more than ready to go ten rounds. It has a lot to do with Vickers being just unable to punish her enough but what would girls like Louise Redknapp and Louisa Lytton sacrifice to finally earn that big "W" next to their name?

Final result: Ellie Goulding def. Diana Vickers UD6.
