BBU BANTAMWEIGHT MINI TOURNAMENT

(Double A Boxing vs Lioness Club)

Both of these girls want a shot at Sacha Parkinson’s BBU bantamweight title, and they are both very confident that they can win this fight, followed by one against Liz McClarnon, despite the blonde’s win over Lisa Maffia earlier.

Mel’s wearing a leopard print leotard with black gloves and boots, with Una in a green tankini, boots and gloves.

Round 1

These girls are right at it, with the thicker set Mel giving Una some problems early in the round, brawling the Irish babe, ripping at her body with thumping hooks, working her around the ring with some ease, wanting her backed into the ropes. Una needs to show more athleticism than this, gets on her toes a little better, and she bothers Mel with a good jab, follows with a cross, but now has to take some good shots from the older girl, who works on her again, prodding her towards the corner, Una skidding out and clear, but Mel catches up with her again, landing a good right to her ribs, a hard punch which Una takes, but she won’t want many more like that.

Round 2

Mel’s still stalking Una, and she gets her in the corner this time, swings a right hook at the Irish girl’s body, connects and bends her over, but can’t just take advantage as Una strikes back, her sharp jabs stabbing into Mel’s face, wiping the older girl backwards, the redhead finding Mel’s head a fairly easy target now, that jab smacking into her mouth, pushing her backwards, Mel not having the speed in her legs to get clear of Una, and the Irish babe is starting to sort Mel out quite easily, her gloves just bouncing off Mel’s face, as the older girl fails to keep up with her legspeed or glovespeed.

Round 3

Una looks more confident by the second, and she snaps Mel’s head back again with a left and a right jab, the older girl looking increasingly ill at ease, but she stands and trades with Una, and she’s getting the better of this episode, her harder punching beginning to push Una backwards, making the redhead take defensive action, and Mel’s right in front of her, whamming punches into her body, Una squeaking, and covering, unable to grasp and clinch Mel, but she still has enough bounce in her legs to get clear, and enough strength in her arms to give Mel a hard double jab late in the round, showing the tough Spice Girl that she’s still in the ring with her.

Round 4

Mel’s 2 – 1 ahead on rounds, but she’s started this one poorly, because she’s being given another series of jabs to her face, and she’s starting to look a little past her ‘best before’ date now, with the younger Una whipping speedier punches into her face, Mel sagging, looking suddenly tired, and struggling to cope with the redhead, who sweeps home a left hook which slides Mel along the ropes, stops her where she is by following that with a right hook, and Mel’s looking like a girl with nowhere to go, and nowhere to hide as Una now gives her a bit of a jug mugging, belting her big rack with thudding short uppercuts, Mel growling at the bell.

Round 5

Mel looks a little quicker now, and she gets home the first punches, a left hook, then a right, but Una takes those punches rather too easily, deflating the normally cocky Leeds singer, and in goes that accurate jab again, smacking on Mel’s nose, and again, sending her backwards, Mel again fighting fire with fire, but her punches are poorly timed, give Una no trouble really, and in goes another jab, and another, Mel rocking backwards, but she comes forward again – and she’s suckered! Une swipes up a peach of an uppercut, and Mel hits the floor, hard, her nose really quite badly cut across the bridge, and that’s going to cause her problems as she resumes the fight after being counted to 8, and she’s getting beaten now as she backs into the ropes, glad to hear the bell.

Round 6

The referee doesn’t look happy with the state of Mel’s nose, but Una doesn’t seem to care, and she’s deepening the wound now as she gives Mel more hammer on the ropes, and – it’s over! The referee won’t let brave Mel take any more of that.

Result: Una Healy stopped Mel Brown in round 6.

That was something of any anti-climax, but Mel’s nose has been badly damaged, and there was no point her getting even more punishment than she already had.
