(WELTER TITLE) CASSIDY FREEMAN VS MANDY MOORE
(Words: Vassago / Results: Lookout!)

BEFORE: The reigning welterweight champion Cassidy Freeman has one and only one thing on her mind, that's to complete her second unbeaten campaign in three years total with the LCA franchise. The number of high-profile opponents for the divisional title is running short based on the Lioness' demanding scrutiny but Mandy Moore remains one of the most experienced women around and has battled herself to another opportunity thanks to her back-to-back wins over Gena Lee Nolin and Brooklyn Decker both whom have challenged Freeman for the title earlier this year.

Moore hasn't tasted the champion's belt being wrapped around her waist since April 2009 but she's by no means the underdog coming against the hard-punching redhead; Freeman's tenure as the best welterweight in the country must eventually be terminated however everyone in LCA's headquarters in Florida believe that if she beats Moore tonight she will be on the shortlist for Tractorpull's and BWO's annual Fighter Of The Year Awards!

Cassidy Freeman wears a black basque top, matching hip-huggers and red gloves. Red hair tied in a fancy braid on top of her head. Mandy Moore wears a navy blue bandeau bikini, black boy-leg trunks and white gloves. Dark brown hair long & straight. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.

Round 1:
The welter bouts are usually slow starters but Cassidy clearly means the Fighter of the Year business as she unloads an early onslaught to keep Mandy dancing around in avoidance and not exactly keen to responds in a similar manner; the champion redhead lands all the crisp shots but fails to really trouble the brunette's defence who is happy just to throw single hands back and see what Freeman has to offer. Some quick steps there from Moore as she has that area covered and it's one thing Cassidy can be topped at, the work rate gives her the edge but Mandy's stands tall in "been there, done that" fashion and it's Freeman's responsibility to make things happen as Moore refuses to break cover early.

Round 2:
More of the same in the second, Mandy's just not willing to charge and lets Cass do her thing, this time it's more effective as the champ slips through the mitts and starts bruising the brunette's cheeks with repeated jabs; Moore ups her footwork rate and weaves away from trouble down the stretch before finally getting stuck in the redhead's flesh; she peppers the ribcage and closes right up, pushes Freeman back and zips her with an overhand to the eye that earns a nod of approval, "So, you've actually came here to fight?", Cass rarely gets distracted by her opponents' antics but Mandy gallops into a chest assault to push her back to the ropes and keep spiking the ribcage until the superior strength prevails and enables Cass to clinch her and shove against the turnbuckle where she pays back the midsection punishment.

Round 3:
Mandy closes right up and applies the classic flyweight phone booth exchange which catches Freeman cold as she just can't stretch her arms; Moore with clean blows to the body pushes the champion back to the ropes and swings to the temples giving Cass a hard time. Some early moans of sheer frustration from Cass who tries to shove the brunette back but gets clipped by a couple of uppercuts on the jaw and has to think better of it; Mandy jumps in the brawling figures and pumps close range hooks to the chest, has Freeman gurgling in anger but still nails her across the mouth instead and pins back to the turnbuckle after dominating a late exchange and clipping the champion's chin again.

Round 4:
Cassidy powers from the bell with overhand jabs and prevents Mandy from closing too much in; she finds the temples and staggers the brunette briefly but fails to punish her as the high guard works well and the superior footwork enables Moore to stray back. More from the opening round as Mandy tries to bide her time and let Cass gas out by a harpoon hook over the top finds the temple again and wobbles the challenger back paving the way for subsequent ribcage punishment; Freeman switches to uppercuts and snaps Mandy's head back and finally punches her back to the ropes late on as the challenger loses her footing for once and is unable to break free. Cass realizes this is a rare chance and hoofs Mandy's mitts away and mauls her left brow ridge with a  heavy combo that almost made the brunette's knees buckle just before the bell.

Round 5:
Freeman chases the challenger down and lands single hand shots over the top as Moore's slightly slower across the canvas here; she allows the redhead to close in but misses a counter hook to the liver and gets nailed with a vicious uppercut to the jaw. Cassidy ups the intensity and targets the body as she pierces the breadbasket but that's a largely futile attempt as Mandy's ab muscles are rock solid and she looks more vulnerable up high; both women exchange wild shots to the midsection and Cass finally slams some leather on the cheeks to enforce Mandy clinching her but all in all that's just an untidy performance from the champion who struggles to hurt the brunette singer even though she still looks good on the cards.

Round 6:
Moore flies in with a left hook on the eye and ducks the overhand reply as Cassidy's braid gets loosened up and slumps off the top of her head... that was Mandy's biggest punch yet and it ripped a hole in the champion's confidence who gets pummeled back to the ropes through the minute mark.. it's the challenger finally switching into offensive mood and she really caught the redhead napping, frantic jabbing from Moore lifts Cass on her toes and covering up in earmuff as Mandy has to seek ribcage destruction instead, she pummels through well and leaves reddish patches on the pale skin, Freeman's down the moaning and gasping road and you can see why Mandy took Brooklyn Decker apart lately as she rolls back some years and wrenches Cassidy's guts to the point the champion is left sagging on the ropes with her eyes closed! That's something new to be seen this year! Mandy grins wildly to the Foxfire Boxing executives and she exactly knows why; Freeman's eyes stare at the brunette in disbelief instead.

Round 7:
Cassidy tries to take the momentum away from the brunette but even her improved movement isn't good enough to match it on the long haul; Freeman simply wastes energy in the opening minute and than slows down as the fight enters the critical stage and all the duck & weave antics from Moore at the start just pays off big time and leaves a wobbling redhead at her mercy especially when Mandy finds a dazzling left hook on the eye to stagger her in the middle of the ring. She switches low and goes around the elbows, adds more reddish patches to the already aching ribs and bats the redhead towards the turnbuckle really giving her guts a jelly treatment... The eyes glare in venom as Moore tries some uppercuts on the rack and it's shocking to see Freeman happy just to clinch her foe to survive the round. Mandy still digs some extra on the ribs late on and she watches really carefully if Cassidy's had enough of this!

Round 8:
Freeman goes for the kill, the scorecards suddenly don't look so solid anymore and the champ doesn't want to take any chances! But Mandy's guard withstands the barrage as Cass' efforts to push her butt-in-ropes are fruitless and the menacing swings around the body slow the champion down instead. It's almost a haymaker time for the redhead but she can't quite nail the brunette and looks to be chasing shadows for much of the round before finally soaking one in on the eye that staggers Moore for the first time in a while. But she quickly resumes her stance and Freeman can't punish her, what's more the high octane effort takes it's toll and makes the champion gasp for air and eats a swift combo late in the going with Moore pumping away to long lost glory and she really gives Cassidy a bad swelling around the left eye once the round concludes.

Round 9:
Freeman's aware of the eye injury despite all the adrenaline still pumping in her veins but she doesn't want to wait until the final round before making her moves; Moore doesn't hold back either, she thinks that enough duck & weave is enough and it's the redhead looking more tired and bruised out there.. A looping overhand crashes straight into that wounded eye to start the ninth round and Freeman soaks up the abuse with eyes closed as Moore hoofs her mitts away and pounds facial leather sending a wobbly-butt redhead spinning back to the ropes and bouncing into a cross hook piledriver that nails Cassidy on the nose... REDHEAD IS DOWN... Freeman bounces off the ropes again but the knees give way and she tumbles to her backside and swallows a lump in her throat as Mandy struts quickly to the neutral corner... Cassidy sits down until the six count and gets up moments later but she looks quite roughed up here, the left eye badly swollen and the face slowly but surely matching her hair color now.. the braid has some loose again and there's no immediate will to punish the challenger... Moore comes crashing down on her and pierces the mitts with ease, digs into the redhead's cheeks and unloads the lethal barrage, pumping jabs left and right and shutting Freeman's eye completely... a belting hook on the navel makes Freeman sink on her jelly knees one last time before a put away uppercut crashes off her jaw AND SENDS TUMBLING FLAT ON HER BACK with eyes closed moments later... KO9 and the NEW welterweight champion Mandy Moore!!!

AFTER: The comeback is complete and Mandy screams out in delight upon resuming the welter straps after four and a half years of waiting! Huge upset against one of the top candidates for Fighter of the Year Honors! Funereal atmosphere among the Lioness Club of America entourage. Eva Mendes losing to Meghan Markle was bad but this one is painful! Despite all the experience on her side, Mandy Moore was not supposed to take the straps away from Bradenton! Give credit where it's due though.. Mandy beat the same two opponents Cass faced in her title defences in Nolin and Decker and if you beat these kind of people you're always a worthy champion! And the Foxfire curse continues for the LCA faithful. If Laura Vandervoort wasn't menacing enough...

Cassidy remains flat on her back for a while and shakes her head upon getting revived, she does make it back to the Foxfire corner to offer her congratulations to the funky brunette who looks in supreme shape despite almost half an hour of welterweight leather pounding. There's something really new about the singer as she has the belt wrapped around her waist moments later and the departing champion Cassidy Freeman leads the applause before finally getting attended to the completely swollen eye. It was fun while it lasted!

Final result: Mandy Moore def. Cassidy Freeman KO9.
