This is an interesting match up between an experienced Natalie Mendoza and a BBU based American Emmy Rossum who enters the fight following a truly breakthrough victory over a favored Berenice Marlohe few monts ago. Mendoza is basically the same physical calliber as Marlohe and there's every chance these two will meet really soon but for now Natalie took exception from Jennifer Metcalfe's comments during the previous fight and plans to spoil them by lining up a meeting with Jessica Schwarz herself! The German former champion gets a lot of mention despite being absent in the Wembley Arena tonight but Mendoza should really take out the American brunette first if she wants to go anywhere with her plans!
Natalie Mendoza wears a red basque top, matching knickers and boots with white gloves. Emmy Rossum wears a navy blue bikini top, white hip-huggers and boots and black gloves. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Round 1:
Rossum's the slender type but she tricked Berenice Marlohe into that false sense of safety and Natalie's misread the very same call too as she eats a sudden flurry of jabs to the face in the opening minute with Emmy hungry for some boxing action after a lenghty spell in the gym. Rossum's too fast for her opponent and the precision enables her to dish out facial blow that reel Mendoza back in hurry, heavy swings go wide off the mark for the English veteran and she just can't escape the effort here with Emmy potentially seeking her maiden fight back home in New York next year. She nails Natalie with a jabbing combo to pin her in the corner and whips a series on the body to sink her with eyes wide open at the bell and not many people inside the Wembley Arena expected that!
Round 2:
Natalie tries to close up to the feisty American but eats jabs on the fly and sinks dow again, manages to clinch Emmy with a desperate effort but then she gets spun around as Rossum wrenches her ribcage and breaks the deadlock all by herself. She swings over the top and finds Mendoza's temples, pushes her back towards the corner again with midsection strikes and uppercuts the rack thereafter. Natalie can only clinch her before finally landing one on target as she fights from behind the guard and shows some actual strenght by pumping leather between Emmy's arms. A swift hook to the temple is followed by a cross hook on the boobs and Rossum has to break free; she notices Natalie getting really angry here and seeking immediate redemption. More swinging menace from the English actress follows but Emmy's too quick for her across the canvas to soak up further punishment.
Rounds 3 & 4:
A sudden change of tactics from the American has Mendoza chasing shadows; Emmy reverts into dominant footwork speed and blocks off the single punches that Mendoza manages to land on her and this only increases the veteran's anger but does no good to actual accuracy against the fast moving opponent. Both rounds end with Natalie gassing out after a fruitless chase and eating swift response over the top which forces her into an earmuff cover and that's supreme tactical display from Rossum who's fully aware of her pros and cons instead of just lashing out at her opponent like most BBU would have done.
Round 5:
Now Natalie tries to slow it down and save some energy but Emmy catches her with a quick hook and there's just no way she's gonna allow her rival to dominate the sluggish pace efforts; Mendoza's on the move again and she can't quite make her strikes from behind the guard work whenever she's circling around Rossum, hit & miss display from Natalie which is punished down the stretch when the American pierces her ribcage and works the liver area. Mendoza sags on her knees and covers up low but leaves the chin exposed and Rossum's quick on the attack again. She snaps Natalie's head back and thumps her back to the ropes where she drills the breadbasket and leaves the English actress gasping for air at the bell.
Round 6:
Emmy enjoys a runaway fitness advantage as Natalie begins to gass out in rather dramatic fashion and just eats punches in the middle of the ring struggling to escape. Rossum ups the barrage and her Marlohe clash indicated she can fight for more than just ten rounds any day of the week unless she gets caught with a huge punch, the problem with Mendoza is she's not the durable type nor she can land that haymaker on the pacey American... Instead she gets pummelled back to the ropes and has Rossum drilling her navel again before a swift uppercut on the jaw whips her back against the ropes and gives the American a clean shot at the temples... a one-two follow up rocks Mendoza back to the turnbuckle AND SHE HAS TO TAKE A KNEE as Emmy threatens to romp her to the cleaners... The count reaches eight before Natalie's up again, all under control but an immediate tangle has her missing a hook to the mouth; Rossum ducked that with ease before clubbing the English girl's nasal ridge and sending her right back to the corner where the bell halts the looming onslaught. Emmy remains in prime shape and she's fooled another girl with that slender shape of hers while Natalie nurses a cut on the nasal ridge and can't find her breath at all now.
Round 7:
Yeah, Natalie's lungs can barely offer any oxygen dose now and she pretty much stumbles out of her corner straight into Rossum who bats her mitts away and adds more misery on the wounded nasal ridge.. she pumps quick jabs on target and Mendoza just moans her heart out, bellows out in a lacklustre earmuff but her feet are rooted to the spot and Emmy opens up from both wings, the sheer ammount of punches pounds the fighting spirit out of Natalie who JUST CRUMBLES DOWN ON HER KNEES with a loud whimper and sits down with Emmy shadow boxing in front of her and teasing her into another try.. Mendoza's nose doesn't look that well either and this is just a lesson in boxing for the veteran.. Natalie's up at seven and brave enough to endure more torture... Rossum pummels her back to the turnbuckle and just pounds away at the face, Mendoza aches and shouts back as the American's on course to bash her face in... several punches render the veteran into a sagging dummy AND THERE COMES THE TOWEL... ref was happy to watch Emmy at work but the Fight Club UK entourage had other ideas and stopped the beatdown in progress. TKO7 Emmy Rossum!!!
AFTER: The American actress just keeps getting better and she's dispatched another woman more renowed for her raw power rather than speed and agility. Her exceptional finesse and fitness preparation are't quite on the levels of Sacha Parkinson or Miranda Kerr yet however there's a shortage of opponents who'd like to find out about it personally!
Despite losing the betting stakes to Jennifer Metcalfe, Natalie actually would be better suited against Jessica Schwarz who just like the exotic brunette isn't a speed demon across the ring and prefers to settle her fights in strictly punching mode. Rossum's punching alone didn't shoot Natalie down tonight and Georgie Thompson remains coy on who's the better of the two, Mendoza or Metcalfe? We'll have to wait until 2015 to find out!
