Nadine Coyle received a lot of praise after knocking out Myleene Klass on the Frankie's Foxes card last month and is joined by bandmates Nicola Roberts and Sarah Harding again as she tries to build on that victory against equally lacklustre Welsh blonde Katherine Jenkins. The classic singer is on a six fight losing streak and ceased her operations a year ago after former Sugababes' Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy simply smoked her senseless. But now she's back against one of flyweight's most delicious jobbers though the Klass victory could finally vault Coyle to a higher level - pending a repeat tonight - and result in Jenkins thinking about permanent retirement later this year. There's a lot at stake for these perenially underperforming singers!
Nadine Coyle wears a red bikini top, jeans shorts and black gloves. Katherine Jenkins wears a white bikini top, jeans shorts and red gloves. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.
Round 1:
Coyle rides the Klass mojo and digs into Katherine's guts seconds into the fight; the classic singer gets outworked in close range despite clipping Nadine's cheeks and eats a jabbing series on the ribcage to reel backwards and jump to the side in avoidace. Coyle seeks overhand success and keeps Jenkins dancing on her toes until she nails her with a right handed cross on the nose and wobbles on the spot. More hooks pierce Katherine's guard thereafter and she fails to soak up the leather without damage, Nadine works around her left eye already and rocks the head back & forth; Jenkins feels the heat after getting pummelled back to the ropes late on and both Harding and Roberts lead the support from the stands as Nadine means business!
Round 2:
Jenkins knows that Nadine's had a longer losing streak in the division than anyone and she whips the Irish blonde on the temples before adding some jabs to the mouth. Coyle's guard cracks and the younger singer has to check out briefly before jumping at the Welsh foe and beating her for overhands that spike the eye again. Katherine tries to stay in the exchange but fails to match Coyle's reach and has to deke to the side... that's to no avail as Nadine whips her with more cross hooks and sags on the knees with a loud yelp. More from Coyle afterwards, the Irish girl pummels herself through on the chest and reels a cumbersome blonde back to the ropes; Jenkins tries to clinch her but eats another hook on the left eye and bends against the ropes instead with Nadine pumping jabs into her face before the ref drags her away at the bell.
Round 3:
Katherine looks quite sore already and she can't even protect herself that much so just jumps after the Irish singer and whacks her on the chin with a sudden uppercut charge that even silences the Girls Aloud supporters in the crowd. Coyle screams out but endures a good head rocking and falls onto the ropes with Jenkins driving a hammer punch to the nose and adding one more on the navel... Nadine bends forward and covers up as the classic singer thumps her body and strikes over the top trying to connect with the temples... everything has changed now and Katherine runs away with the romping display, she keeps the Irish girl trapped and just whoops her left, right and center... finally rocks her temples and sends up and almost over the ropes, sags Nadine with a left hook on the eye and tears the skin underneath it; Nadine's left swallowing some tears as Jenkins reminds her about all those defeats on her record!
Round 4:
Sarah Harding has made her way down ringside and tells Nadine not to buckle now as Katherine's up early and shadow boxes in the middle of the ring to pleasure the blood thirsty audience. And there's blood early in the fourth as Nadine follows Sarah's advice and bombs a big one right onto Jenkins' nose and staggers her to the side with red fluid suddenly seeping from the squashed nostrils... Katherine doesn't realize that at first but when she feels it, she pauses and looks on in shock as Coyle comes flying in AND NAILS HER with a mammoth hook that tears the right brow ridge into more blood AND SENDS JENKINS FLAT ON HER BACK... the proud Welsh blonde just got thrown to the canvas like a sack of potatoes but she was never prepared for the attack being more concerned about the wounded nose.. and now her brow ridge is all torn up too! She gets up at eight but is very roughed up here and even the audience can't believe it's all Nadine's fault. Jenkins has the presence of mind to stay in mid-range and avoid more punches as the Irish girl looks stunned herself and needs to be reminded by Harding how to finish wounded girls again!
Round 5:
Jenkins bought herself some time with that fancy footwork late in the fourth but she doesn't get any luck now as Nadine tears into her face after a speedy approach and adds more lumps on the cheeks with the blonde's head snapping back & forth and sending her down the exit door. Coyle oozes rare confidence and pounds away at the lacklustre blonde; drives her back to the turnbuckle where she can send some tummy leather to further soften Jenkins up. The Welsh girl struggles to embrace this onslaught and can only clinch Coyle in order to see out the round; still gets whacked across the ribs and sinks on her knees with Nadine tearing into her face late in the round to open the nasal bleeding again and just punch the last ounce of resistance from the classic singer. Bell saves Jenkins from looming disaster but she's just all torn & banged up here!
Round 6:
Katherine has nothing left and tries to protect her face from more injuries as Nadine whacks her around the elbows instead and roots to the spot in the center of the ring. Wide slaps test Jenkins' ab muscles resistance as the blonde tries to respond over the top with a loud moaning effort but Nadine weaves around it and cross hooks the nose again to drop the blonde's arms and wobble her into another cross hook, this time from the right that catches the aching Welsh singer on the mouth AND JUST SENDS HER DOWN ON HER SIDE moments later... Katherine hits the deck hard and rolls onto her face with eyes closed and aching her heart out in pure dismay... no need to count her out, she's done for tonight! KO6 Nadine Coyle!!!
AFTER: Nadine is quickly embraced by both Sarah Harding and Nicola Roberts as her revival continues and she's no longer the laugh of the town at flyweight. The Irish girl looks more relieved than happy and admits she felt very nervous when BBU TV pundits didn't have her as complete outsider - as it's usually the case - against Jenkins tonight. Having said that Katherine truly looked out of her depth aside from that third round display, but if you struggle to finish Nadine Coyle off, you know you're in the losers pool all night long.
What next for both of these girls? Nadine's two wins in a row are so unusual neither of the Girls Aloud nor Lioness head coach Gina Wild actually know what to do with it - the in-house battle against Cheryl Cole is probably ill-advised at this stage despite an obvious feud between the two of them. And Katherine Jenkins is looking at the likes of Louise Redknapp to even stay alive on the BBU roster. It just keeps getting worse for the Welsh classic singer who's lost all the venom and fighting spirit that enabled her to win four times in the past.
