KRISTEN BELL VS LUCY HALE
(FIGHTING ACADEMY VS PRETTY LITTLE PUNCHERS INC.)
Results: Lookout / Writing: Archer

Before: “Oh yes, I’ve watching Lucy,” a cheerfully confident Kristen Bell tells the press, “I mean it’s not many fighters who can work their way back from a 0-9 start, but I guess if your managers find enough hopeless jobbers you can do it. Trouble is, Lucy is now fighting the REAL flyweights and you will recall how well that worked for her against Jessica Lowndes. No, I’m afraid the PLP will just have to find someone like Ariana Grande for Lucy to get her next win. Hey, anyone know how to get a hold of that Dove Cameron chick?”

Lucy just grins and bears it: “Thank you for that suggestion, Krissy, I will give Dove some thought in the future, but right now—I want you—and because I lost to Lowndes. I do need to prove that I can beat veterans like her. True, I didn’t do it with Jessica, but I like my chances with Krissy. I don’t think she’s the fighter she used to be. It will be good to prove that to everyone by taking her down.”

Kristen frowning at this, but otherwise ignores the jab. She just leans over and says: “See you in the ring, kid!”

“You, too,” Lucy says unflappably, “—toots!”

Kristen comes to the ring an impressive hot pink bikini with dark pink gloves and blonde hair swinging loose. Lucy in a bright purple bikini with matching gloves. New shoulder length cut hair hanging loose. Cool smiles from both fighters during instructions. Hard glove “touch” breaks the surface politeness, but fighters then go quietly back to their corners.

R1: Kristen doesn’t waste any time taking the offensive as she advances on Lucy punching straight rights and lefts as she moves forward in a protective crouch. Lucy backed up as her head and body take the blows, but she crouches down herself and tries to uppercut under Kristen’s guard. Kristen’s breasts get knocked upwards, then Lucy gets to Kristen’s chin. Kristen shudders to a stop and then tries to step to one side, but Lucy is quicker and slaps a hard right to the side of the blonde’s head. KBell strikes back with a right of her own that clips on the side of her head. Lucy ducks down and bores in, ignoring Kristen’s jab to smash rapid-fire shots into the blonde’s midsection. Kristen tipped forward and Lucy smacks a right uppercut into her chin. Kristen ducks away and manages to land a protective left to Lucy’s head that slows her pursuit. Kristen now out to midring where she and Lucy exchange punches. Lucy showing good upper body to make it harder for Kristen to land. Lucy punching steady though Kristen is absorbing them. It’s more than enough to give Lucy the first round on points.

R2: Kristen seems to shake off the punching Lucy gave her last round and goes right for the brunette at the opening. Lucy tries to stand her ground, but  Kristen is moving with determination and she is scoring hard to Lucy’s face, bloodying her nose and making her chin start to swell. Lucy gets her gloves up to cover her face and this leaves her body open for Kristen to work over with intensity. Lucy finally has to retreat, but Kristen is close on her and the next thing Lucy knows she’s feeling the ropes against her butt. Kristen has her trapped and tries to bend Lucy back against the strands by driving the top of her head into Lucy’s breasts will smashing punches into Lucy’s tummy. Lucy writhing under this attack until referee forces Kristen to back off. Lucy looks understandably woozy, but has her jab up when Kristen comes rushing back in. Kristen recoils from a shot to her left eye buying Lucy some breathing space to the bell, but Kristen has this round wide on points.

R3: Lucy tries to get back into this, but Kristen battles her way in close. It’s thrilling ring action as Kristen shakes off Lucy’s shots to her chin and even another straight punch into that left eye. Kristen able to just knock Lucy’s guard aside and smash straight rights and lefts into her breats to knock her breath out, then hook to the belly and finally go after Lucy’s chin.  However Lucy still able to keep her head moving, so that Kristen can’t seem to land squarely and put her down.  Lucy then manages to dart to her right, but reverses to left which throws Kristen off balance. Lucy loops and over hand right that swivels head around in a spray of sweaty blonde hair. Kristen stumbles away, but quickly comes around. Lucy has her guard up and battles Kristen with jabs, forcing the blonde to keep back until Kristen does a nifty feint with her left shoulder to draw the younger fighter’s attention and then smashes a right into the side of Lucy’s face. Lucy stumbling, but nimble enough to keep away from Kristen’s attempts to finish her. Kristen has to settle for winning the round on point and looks frustrated to see Lucy going to her stool (though on rubbery legs).

R4: Lucy begins on the defensive as Kristen resumes her efforts to finish off the swollen-faced, but still fighting brunette. Kristen backing Lucy up, clearly trying to get her on the ropes again, but Lucy’s not having it. She fights to get away and there is vicious exchange of head shots, Kristen catches Lucy’s nose and it spurts blood, but Lucy catches Kristen in the left eye yet again. This time Kristen shudders from the blow and it allows Lucy to finally swing out to the open space in midring. Kristen looks angered Lucy’s repeated strikes on her now badly swollen eye and goes after her. Lucy makes a stand and gets a barrage of Kristen Bell hooks to her body which open up Lucy’s upper guard. Lucy gets her nose struck again and then her chin lifted by Bell’s leather.  Kristen expects Lucy to pull back, but the bloodied brunette just ducks down and fights back. More furious leather slams into the straining small bodies with Kristen clubbing Lucy’s breasts until the brunette falls back behind a stubborn jab. Bell goes off before they can get back at it (and referee sensing they just might, jumps in between them to keep order). Kristen awarded the round by a close margin.

R5: Kristen remains the offensive and Lucy doesn’t seem to be challenging her so much as the early minutes tick by. Lucy showing some nimbleness and jabbing, but Kristen seems to be in charge constantly landing on the brunette, but Lucy turning her shoulders to take many of these punches and she not being hurt. Then Lucy decides to test that swollen left eye (Kristen’s corner people working on it between rounds, but it still looks nasty), she starts circling and then strikes. Sure enough. Kristen doesn’t seem to smashing punch that cracks into her jaw out of the blind spot AND KRISTEN BELL GOES DOWN! Kristen spun around by the blow lands in a sitting position with a shocked look on her face. She wisely lets count go to 8 to try to clear head before rising. Kristen looks shaken by the knockdown and does not resume the attack, leaving Lucy to dance around, hoping for another opportunity. Kristen able to protect her blind spot and get to the bell, but the knockdown allows Lucy Hale to steal what seemed sure to be another Kristen Bell round.

R6: Lucy knows that Kristen is hurt and it seems to give her a second wind. She goes right for Kristen, not surprisingly trying to circle and take advantage of that problem left eye. Kristen showing good defensive skills to protect that eye, but she’s not getting many punches into Lucy. Lucy finally gives up on the left eye and goes after Kristen body with some strong hooks that lift the blonde up on her toes. Lucy then tries for the head, but Kristen’s guard blocks her most of the time, but late in the going, Lucy sneaks in a left uppercut that lifts the blonde’s chin and buckles her knees, though Kristen manages to stumble out of range before Lucy can knock her down. Lucy wins round wide as Kristen is looking very haggard, blonde hair dripping sweatily across her face. Lucy has some tendrils of hair on her face but she brushes them back with a smile.

R7: Lucy on the attack to Kristen’s body to open this round and Kristen jabbing to keep her back, but the blonde’s arms seem to be tiring and her jabs lack strength. Lucy just keeps on the pressure keeping Kristen focused on what’s in front of her. Then Lucy makes a sudden move to the left and STRIKES OUT OF KRISTEN’S BLIND SPOT. Blockbuster punch catches Kristen on the temple AND KRISTEN BELL NOSE-DIVES INTO THE CANVAS. Kristen plainly knocked cold, lies crumpled on her face, gloves pinned under her body and not doing more than breathe into the canvas. Referee starts the count. Lucy watching anxiously as Kristen does manage to stir and roll onto her back, but that’s all she can manage before the count reaches “….TEN!”

The Winner: Lucy Hale KO7.

After: Lucy sags into the arms of trainer Nia Peeples as Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, Adealide Kellogg and Willa Holland surround them in a big group hug. Lucy watches as Kristen Bell helped from the ring by her attendant and allows herself a smile of satisfaction.

“I have to tell you,” Lucy later tells the press, “that felt REALLY GOOD! Yes, it did despite of all the punches I took including my poor nose—I beat an established veteran—a three-time flyweight champion! This has to be the biggest win of my boxing career—so far! Let me thank everyone at Pretty Little Punchers, especially my trainer Nia Peeples, she has helped me to become the boxer I always wanted to be! I will always be grateful! Now I want to win those title belts. I know I can do it! I proved I can do it!”

The happy Lucy Hale, is of course, in contrast to a glum and very black-eyed Kristen Bell, who nurses her left eye with an ice bag while gamely meeting with the press.

“I never like to lose and I didn’t like losing this one,” Kristen says quietly. “Lucy Hale is going to be a problem for other flyweights, I can see that now. However I am NOT saying she is unbeatable—I think is fair to say I had my chances to take her out, but I didn’t do it. Once she started working my eye, well, I think that was the real difference in the outcome.  I am not saying Lucy Hale is just lucky, you don’t work an eye like she did by luck, she showed she’s learning. Well, I am still learning too, and I am learning to never take Lucy Hale lightly. I hope I get to fighter again. If we ever do, the outcome will be a lot different.”

An important fight for Lucy as she showed she can fight and win against proven opponents. The question is till whether or not this was genuine progress on her part or just good ring luck. As the year progresses, we’ll all see. As for Kristen Bell, she won’t be the first veteran unpleasantly surprised by a rising younger fighter, but she will need to show in future fights that she can still handle fighters like Lucy Hale and beat them. So she will need to show progress in 2015 herself.
