Emily VanCamp versus Shailene Woodley
(Words: Bazz / Results: Lookout!)

Before: Emily VanCamp up to the podium first with a hands on hips “I’m in charge here” look on her face. “When Shailene left our camp I expected that maybe she was going to spin out somewhere into space or something and we’d never see here north of a Tijuana undercard for a Carrie Prejean brawl. I mean that’s what happens when you get dumped right? I have to admit, finding her at Bazz was quite a shock. They’ve got talent over there so I’m not taking this girl lightly anymore.”

Shailene giving her former stablemate a furrow browed looking over while she listens finally jumps in. “Look Em may not read the FCBA rags but I was independent for about 5 minutes. People around here know talent when they see it so she can cut out the little sister routine. I’m here to fight.”

Rd 1 Both fighters out looking light on their feet and showing some experience, not rushing into anything but punches crisp and on target. Time at the Bazz Facility showing in Woodley’s confidence as she circles VanCamp jabbing at her foe. VanCamp countering with mitts protecting her head bobbing and weaving in and out of the hardworking Woodley. VanCamp opening up her attack now seemingly more deliberate that Woodley but connecting just the same. Both fighters going at it full tilt in the final minute. Emily moving in with straight forward power punching while Shailene dances looking for an angle from the outside. VanCamp using her experience to cut through Woodley’s jabs and defense to land the deciding punches for the first round.

Rd 2 VanCamp and Woodley going to their strengths as the round begins. Em methodical and deliberate in her delivery of powerful well timed punches. Woodley looking like a Michalka/Wagner reincarnation with some very deft foot movement and speedy hands. Still it’s VanCamp’s ability to muscle her opponent around the ring that dominates the first half of the round. Woodley trapped up against the ropes trying to fight free absorbing punishment to the mid section from the power puncher. VanCamp pumping away with punches to the mid section until Woodley shimmies to the left drawing Em that way and then jukes to the right scooting out to center ring. The rest of the round is EVC trying to re-corner Shailene but not having much luck as the Bazz girl is on her bicycle.

Rd 3 Woodley proving to be much harder to corral than in previous rounds. She’s all flashy now moving in and out against EVC with a leg shimmy here and a shoulder roll there and the lanky brunette is in control for the time being. VanCamp reduced to chasing Woodley around the ring and finding little success. Woodley content to hit the Revenge girl with jabs off of her back foot as she back pedals to open space. Punches have little power behind them but they are racking up points for Shailene and annoying Emily to no end. EVC looking frustrated as it seems as if she’s going to have to work for this one after all.

Rd 4 Woodley all determined as she enters the field of battle more confident than ever. She knows that she has to stay away from EVC and use her speed if she is going to pull this off and so she is ducking and weaving at center ring and not allowing VanCamp a chance to push her around. Still EVC is able to get some body shots in and restore some order to the confusion brought about by her old stablemate. Woodley throws some double steps and leg shimmies in to throw Emily off her game and is able to connect on some lunging jabs. Round is even steven with both girls finding success going to their strengths, Em stalking her girl Shailene with a methodical deliberate rhythm that scores points while Shailene does her best to glide away from Revenge heroine tagging her with jab after jab as she goes. VanCamp’s punches more popular with the crowd drawing the occasional roar from her fans while Woodley’s jabs are landing more often and are impressing the judges for the close round.

Rd 5 Shailene looking too quick for EVC at this point in the brawl. Long lanky girl is polished and confident as she moves in and out on her opponent. Woodley no longer just jabs and retreats. She’s leaning on her left leg and throwing some rights that pack more power than the punches VanCamp has been having to handle up to this point. VanCamp looking confused and frustrated as Woodley circles with a purpose. Revenge girl makes a run at Woodley only to be olayed like a charging bull causing disappointed groans to rise up from the crowd. As round ends VanCamp is starting to feel the effects of the pestering jabs from Woodley and as she makes her way to her corner thoughts of not being able to catch Shailene start to creep into her head.

Rd 6 Emily not going down that easy. It just can’t happen this way. Shailene starting to look all smug and “I’m just a bit too polished for you” as she dances confidently in front of the well built blonde. VanCamp registers the image in her mind and says “No way!”. Em moves in and starts cutting off the ring on Woodley. The approach is modified but the punches are still powerful and hurt when they thud on Shailene’s midsection. Woodley wincing as she is knocked off her game and chased down in the corner. The crowd on its feet as EVC puts on a power punching clinic in the corner, against the ropes, anywhere she can trap her opponent and open up a massive can of whoop upside your head. Woodley only barely able to hang on as Em never planned on being slapped to death by the quicker fighter. Shailene letting out audible groans as leather smacks her torso with an occasional uppercut to her face. VanCamp working hard trying to end the fight with one horrific blitzkrieg. She’s landing right crosses and left uppercuts while burrowing her head into Shailene’s chest. Bazz girl swooning as the bell rings signaling EVC’s return to form.

Rd 7 Crowd anxious to see if Shailene has anything left in her tank to handle Emily’s onslaught for another round. Emily looking to finish what she started charging Woodley with all encompassing aggression but the Bazz girl dodges VanCamp and catches her liver as she motors by. Emily feels the pain as she twists to face her opponent. Woodley leaning in now not backing away as VanCamp more than game to go punch for punch with the lanky girl. They’re squared off with VanCamp lashing out with crosses and uppercuts while Woodley’s jabs and right hands cut through the air with a blur. Crowd going bananas at this point sensing that they are watching an early FOTY contender both girls showing that they have the heart and guts to pull out an incredible win. VanCamp cruises in with two powerful knock out worthy punches, a left jab followed by a strong right cross. Woodley sacrificing her face having to take the jab but dodging the right and following up with her own jab and pushing a right cross behind VanCamp’s and DOWN GOES EMILY! Crowd in shock as underdog retreats to a neutral corner with as much calm as she can muster. Meanwhile VanCamp kissing the canvas for the first half of the count and then getting up at nine. Ref gives the Revenge blonde a serious looking over and then releases her to fight. Woodley all over the retreating blonde who is backing up for the first time all night. Up against the ropes VanCamp covers up and withstands an excited attack from Woodley who is smelling blood for the first time in her very short career and against an elite bantamweight no less. Bell can’t come quick enough for VanCamp who retreats to her corner wondering what the hell is happening.

Rd 8 Shailene sheds any cocky atitude as she moves towards center ring. She knows how dangerous EVC can be with her superior power. Woodley takes command at the beginning throwing some quick jabs and now fully leaning forward into her punches. VanCamp knows she’s probably behind but still not panicking. EVC moves in with her own jabs. After some hesitancy from both fighters they begin to connect and they are soon toe to toe. Emily rocks Shailene’s head back with as stiff a jab as has been thrown all night and the crowd is back up out of their chairs. Woodley not backing down this time leaning in with a two punch combination that stuns Emily with the first and sends the second whistling past her chin. Both fighters slugging it out with Woodley showing incredible resilience against one of the strongest punchers in her division. Towards the end of the round Woodley just catches VanCamp’s chin with a cross that staggers her ever so slightly swaying the judges. And initiating a roar from the crowd which at this point is literally causing the arena to shake.

Rd 9 Both fighters are exhausted at this point. VanCamp leaning into Woodley for support and to hopefully wear her down for the final minutes of the fight. Woodley trying to untangle herself from Emily lowers her head and pummels the midsection. Both fighters back to their familiar toe to toe face off now. Emily launching bombs from down around her ankles knowing that she probably has to knock out Woodley to win. Woodley not backing off, wanting a knock out against her old stablemate. She continues to throw combinations that seem to be just missing. Both fighters go for a clinch to rest for a moment one trying to gain position on the other. Suddenly EVC lets loose with a left cross that catches Shailene across the face and DOWN GOES WOODLEY! Shailene down on all fours looking for something that just isn’t there. Ref counting and VanCamp celebrating in the neutral corner knowing that she has caught enough of the exhausted fighter to shut it down until horror upon horror Woodley is rising from the dead. Structural engineers running for their lives the crowd roar reaching a pandemonium that seems to threaten the building’s integrity while Woodley accepts a standing eight count from the ref. VanCamp moves back in with fists flying trying to end the fight early as her only hope. Woodley covering up and putting up some modest counter punching that just doesn’t convince the ref who moves in and seperates the two fighters. Shailene Woodley complaining vehemently but it’s all falling on deaf ears. Rd 9 TKO Emily VanCamp!

After: A bruised and hyperventilating Emily VanCamp sits on her stool and looks up at the phalanx of reporters standing over her. “Okay! Okay! Who took the girl who used to fight for us as our last bantam and replaced her with that animal? Maybe I took her for granted at first but not after the fourth round! It was on after that and Shailene answered the bell each round! She’s got some serious technique now. It just wasn’t enough to get me today so she’s going to have to get back in line and I’m going to be ready next time that’s for sure! But, now that I've dispatched of her, my former sparring partner and future punching bag, I'm headed back to the top, where I belong!!” Shailene Woodley said to be inconsolable after hugging it out with Emily, a modicum of respect exchanged between the two, at center ring knowing that an instant classic got away from her.
