Claire Holt vs Eliza Dushku
(Bantamweight Championship)
(Words: Oddman / Results: Lookout!)

Before: 15 title reigns, 52 title fights, inaugural inductee to the Hall of Fame, you can’t say Claire is going to play it safe with her first title defense.  “Everybody would be asking why I’m avoiding her if I didn’t face her, so why not get it out of the way?”  The Odds & Ends phenom maintaining a diplomatic silence about her recent loss to Elisha Cuthbert during the O&E/Academy stable war.

Eliza is anything but: “She’s dumb & dangerous, just like Munn & Cuthbert.  But I know how to beat both of them!”  As for this particular fight, “I just don't think Claire's over that loss," Eliza smiles in prefight. "Her body's still looking sore, and she's got a lot of deep-seated doubts following that fight - doubts that I can't wait to exploit!”

Eliza in red leather bra-style bikini; small black gloves; slick low ponytail with ringlets framing face.  Claire in sturdy white halter with showy scoop front; navy bikini bottoms with bold white floral print; white gloves; blonde hair in loose curls.

R1:   “Killer Vs” (Vandervoort & Van Camp) found Claire a hard nut to crack from the outside, Eliza ducks low and comes inside firing from both barrels, Holt welcomes her to a brutal, bruising round of compact punching. Both girls chin-tucked, darting in with jabs and bringing short right hands in close, then digging ribs, tummy, tits with shoulders rotating. Muscular bumping and rubbing at close quarters, Dushku looking to show she can stand toe-to-toe early - Claire obliging with a belting upperbody barrage that has Eliza humming. Close, hard fought, non-stop action round: goes to Holt by a smidge.

R2: Right back atcha from Eliza.  Challenger greets Claire midring with jabs, eases in shoulder to shoulder and fit a nasty right uppercut tight to chin to open festivities.  Fighters busting each other up at close, shoulder-shrugging quarters. Ringing exchanges--short, brisk, crisp: both girls snapping mitts off meat then bringing hands back quick, knowing the receipt will be hot and fast in coming. Dushku bossier, steadily outworking Holt amidships, bringing the crowd to their feet in appreciation when she puts the champion’s butt in the ropes in the final minute and pounding the paunch with a series of robust, curling rights and lefts at the bell.

R3:  Claire walking Eliza down. Duskhu picking her spots, digging in, exchanging, then withdrawing.’ Holt stronger in the trades, shrugging off Eliza’s short right hands to chin and hooks to body, coming forward after beating the Sherriff into retreat. Dushku grim-faced, determined: targeting Holt’s ribcage—continuing to hook at it, dredging up tummy to follow-up, than stepping out under intense pressure from Claire.  Good ring-awareness from Eliza, avoiding the ropes at all costs.  She’s actually willing to lean in and absorb blows to deny Holt apron-position.

R4: Brutal, heartpounding trade—both beauties seeking each other out, trading ferociously.  Eliza in a nice bobbing rhythm, able to make Claire miss the odd shot, then depositing hooks in behind the elbow of the champ.  Dushku with a nice little lean away, then right hand counter, parking it time and again to chin. Holt shrugging off the shots, but definitely getting touched for stiff, clean points in the fourth.

R5: Same stuff. Footwork is economical, designed to close and position for punching, not defense. Both women keeping right hands up to block, relying on torso movement for what defense they’re offering, hooking out of the crouch and staying very, very busy. Eliza routinely beating Claire to the punch with that short right hand, Champ lumping up as Sherriff dials in, Dushku with a cute step to the right - just a lateral shift to get and keep initiative: forcing Holt to react, she’s getting clobbered as she shifts her feet.  Punishment adds up, Holt staggers out of orbit, fades to ropes.  Eliza stays muscular, pushing in on Claire with head and right hand to set up batting, withering hooks downstairs. Holt ashen faced, wincing at the bell as Dushku shouts at her admirers ringside.

R6:  Claire swinging wide, brawling roundhouses, pressuring Eliza out of her stance. Dushku forced to the perimeter, evading Holt's power with footwork for a minute, but quickly running out of ring. Claire slamming away to Eliza's flanks through middle minute: Dushku breathing through pursed lips, hands at her brows as toned little body ships shellack. Holt pushing Eliza into ropes, bodying up as necessary, then slopping on the harm. Dushku battered, forced to employ clever clinches to bring in ref/run the clock to bell.

R7:   Eliza gambles off the jab, leaning in to stroke Claire a clean right cross to chin; follow-up hook to chin to send her blonde backpedalling. Dushku quickly on top of the champ, denying Holt time to regroup: flurry of punches harries her to ropes. Eliza dipping left, tucking a hook neat to liver sitting Claire in the ropes with a gasp. Dushku brisk about her work, snappy hooks snatching at Holt's ribs/waist; choppy little right hands threading in between Holt's raised guard. Claire trying to walk off the ropes, Eliza snaking an arm across her throat to wrestle her back down, very impressive control from top position. Punishment accrues: Holt uncomfortable against ropes, crossing her arms, or showing grumpy earmuff, not a whole lot of options against this caliber opposition in this situation. Dushku able to touch it up, turning short hooks against perky pecs, or issuing side to side scrub in tight. Bell: Eliza making a point of pushing up off her girl, treating Claire to a Sherriff style beatdown!

R8:   Eliza limber-limbed midring, chipping in smooth one-twos, looking to pick Claire up with a hesitation left uppercut off the front leg. Holt bobbing inside, heaving tight shots to Dushku’s body, girls negotiating furiously for position midring. Midway through, Claire buries a right hand to the pit of Eliza's stomach; turns a short-shrugging hook across Dushku's chin.  Sherrif backing away blinking, trying to reload, AND GETS TAGGED WITH THE RIGHT HAND! Holt looping in over the top, crashing the right hand upside Eliza's head AND DOWN GOES DUSHKU!  Eliza all but out, but refusing to go under...she struggles off her back, takes her swaying 8 like the battered little warrior she is. ON COMES CLAIRE! Holt wades in all busy blonde fists and shoulders, bumpin' and a sluggin' on wilting Dushku! Eliza ragdolled, swollen eyes fluttering shut as she's pressed into ropes, then beaten. Dushku drawing on pride, sinewy legs holding her up as hook after hook bashes her senseless, BUT THE REF INTERVENES!  TKO8 as Claire Holt retains the bantam title as she bags her second Hall-of-Famer!

After: Ashley Greene dashing around the outside of the ring, jumping up and down outside Eliza’s corner as a senseless Dushku’s being brought around.  “Great job coming in second!” referring to their 2012 fight.  “I’m getting that rematch, and I’m getting it next!”

Across the ring, Claire is reclaiming her belts, one around her waist with the other two thrown over her shoulders.  “The sooner people realize that I’m the real deal and I’m not going anyway, the easier things are going to be for them!  Theron’s gone, she knows it now.  It’s MY time now!”
