ASHLEY BENSON VS PIPER PERABO
(Pretty Little Punchers vs Medallion Boxing)
Results: Lookout   Writing: Archer

Before:  “I know some people don’t think I should be fighting at bantam,” Ashley with a glance at a disapproving Sasha Pieterse, “but I wanted to explore that division. After I am 5’5 and Piper Perabo is 5’6, so it’s not a mismatch. She’s been around longer than me, of course, but I wouln’t say she’s all that better than me. I think I have a good chance against her.”

Piper Perabo smiles cheerful when she takes the podium: “If Ashley wants take a crack at me, who am I to say no.  Now, I have to tell you, Ashley, you seem to think I am ready for the Old Boxers Home, but I am still pretty young and frisky—as you will find out in the ring. You still want to go through this, Ash?”

“Bring it on! I can take you!” Ashley calls out cheerfully and a chuckle runs through the crowd, shared by Piper.

Come the night of the fight, Ashley appears a stunningly sexy red one piece swimsuit with marching red boots and gloves. Her blonde hair is braided into a simple ponytail. Ashkey is smiling and waving to the fans (who seem to appreciate her low-cut front of her suit). Piper Perabo makes her entrance in a shimmering silver one piece with silver gloves and boots, a bit more conservative than Ashley’s, but cut high on the hips and scooped enough in front make her fans cheer. Piper gives them a big smile before joining Ashley and the referee in the cnter if the ring for instructions.

R1:  Piper gets things off with bob-and-weave approach to a clearly eager Ashley. Ashley trying to force her way in close to get her gloves on the older blonde. Piper evading much of Ashley’s early efforts and chipping away at the younger blonde, bopping her about the head and making the pigtail dance. Ashley stubbornly keeps coming forward, but gets too much leather in the face and finally has to back out of there. Now Piper can move forward and she fires some strong hooks into Ashley’s tummy to make her lean forward. Then Piper fires an uppercut that catches Ashley under the chin and makes her legs buckle. However as she starts to fall, Ashley has the presence of mind to clinch with Piper and earn a break from the referee. Ashley more cautious now, she has her guard up and deploys a good jab. Piper takes a couple of good jabs to the mouth and chest and turns to a wary circling approach, firing out rights and lefts at Ashley when she can find an opening. Ashley steadies and manages to fend Piper off, but the round goes to the Medallion boxer.

R2: Fighters out again and Ashley is on the attack this time. Piper evasive and jabbing back to counter, but Ashley’s got enough good footwork that she can bring some strong punches that smack Piper’s sternum and then lower into her stomach. Piper grimacing as they punches sink in but she manages to knock the younger woman’s head back with a nice shot between Ashley’s eyes. Ashley has to duck back and Piper moves quickly to follow up, but Ashley clips her on the chin with a quick jab. Piper blinking and Ashley follows Up with a strong hook to the belly. Piper tips forward and takes a clout right against the side of the head. Piper spins away and Ashley gallops after her, but the Medallion quick on her feet won’t be cornered. Still, round goes to Ashley Benson.

R3: Piper doesn’t look too pleased with her R2 performance and tries to dominate Ashley in the early action this round. Two now toe to toe, bobbing and weaving punching hard at each other. As each punch slams home (mainly to the bodies of each fighter) the impact sends a shock through the straining, sweaty bodies, but each seems to come back with a counterblow. Then as the second minute is reached, Ashley makes a quick feint to the right that draws Piper’s attention and BANG! An Ashley Benson left hook crashes into Piper Perabo’s temple AND PIPER GOES LIMP! Ashley Benson startled as Piper collapses into her arms and Ashley hastily steps back as Piper crashes onto the canvas. Ashley wide-eyed as she retreats to neutral corner and watches as ref starts his count. Piper shows her resilience by rising first to one knee and then with a great effort, standing erect to beat the count. Ashley looks disappointed but comes back in. Piper needs recovery time so she just goes face-in-gloves and gives up her body to the bell. Piper looks achy as she heads back to her corner. Ashley naturally excited slams her gloves together and all but skips back to her stool.

R4: Piper makes a recovery and battles Ashley throughout this round. Very exciting to watch as Piper’s initial storm of leather bangs up Ashley’s face and the sides of her head. Ashley driven back towards the ropes, but the PLP fighter manages to get her upper body moving to evade incoming and she strikes back to Piper’s midsection with a rapid-fire series of lefts and rights. Piper forced back and Ashley’s punching rises higher to belabor Piper’s breasts and ultimately rings up her chin. Then Piper shoots to one side and smashes a straight left and right combo into the side of Ashley’s. Ashley falls back on rubbery legs trying to jab to keep Piper away, but Piper’s snapping punches into Ashley’s cheeks. Ashley driven backwards again as Piper’s pressure is unrelenting. Ashley finally cornered against the ropes, clinches to break up Piper’s attack, but by the time the bell, the PLP fighter’s body is ringing from the punishment. Now it is Ashley going back to her stool looking pained and Piper with a newfound spring in her step.

R5: Ashley counterattacks early this round darting in to punch Piper’s gut with that strong hook and try to get her chin back in range. Fighters in very close as Piper hooks right back into Ashley’s gut and then manages to get a strong hook into Ashley’s solar plexus. Ashley gasps in shock and guard slips down. Piper lightning quick to bring uppercuts left and right crashing into Ashley’s chin. Ashley floundering back and Piper hurls a lightning bolt straight right dead center into her forehead. Ashley stumbled back still further as her gloves drop to her sides and then an old fashioned one-two left/right to the chin AND ASHLEY BENSON CRASHES TO HER BACK. Ashley lands hard against the canvas bouncing a bit, red suited chest heaving, legs close together and arms at her sides. Her eyelids are fluttering but no one seems home! Referee starts counting. Ashley seems to hear to the numbers and pushes herself into a sitting position, leaning on her right arm, but that is the best she can do. “NINE…TEN!...” IT”S OVER!
The Winner: Piper Perabo KO5!

After: “The kid has punching power and she moves pretty well,” Piper tells scribes in the ring after a visit to Ashley’s corner to make sure the younger fighter is all right. “Luckily, I was able to survive her best stuff and eventually nail her. There’s nothing like beating a good younger fighter to make you feel good and I feel REALLY good tonight.”

Ashley gamely talks to press once her head has stopped spinning and admits: “She got away from me and came back. That’s what happens when you can’t finish someone as tough as Piper when you have the chance.  She fought a good fight and won it fair and square.  Of course, I am not happy at losing, but I think I showed that I am not overwhelmed at bantam and I would like to try it some more. Of course, not everyone may agree with that, but I think it is right for me.” (Ashley looks over at Sasha Pieterse, who just smiles and ruefully shakes her head, apparently knowing her friend’s mind is made up for now).

Interesting fight with plenty of action. Ashley did show some ability at bantam, but she still lost and until she wins at the weight, it’s going to remain an open question. Piper Perabo showed stamina in surviving a hard R3 knockdown to come back and win it just two rounds later. It’s got to be encouraging for in the competitive ranks of the Medallion bantams.
