FEBRUARY FISTICUFFS AT THE ASYLUM

BEFORE:

"This is a big opportunity in a lot of ways," says Graham with a nod. "She's highly ranked, of course, but she also came in here last time and beat Meester. When I beat her, I'll have a signature win AND I'll jump to the top of the pecking order."

"It's cute how Front Street keeps sending its flyweights after me," says Brenda with a lovely smile. "Give them credit for not quitting, but, no matter which one they tap on the shoulder, the result is going to be the same...me with my hand raised."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Wanna Say', and here comes the singer of that song, 'The Liberian Lynx', Kat Graham!"

Tess: "And Kat wasn't exaggerating about how big an opportunity this is for her. She's just a few months out from being benched, and now she has a shot at a highly-ranked fighter who beat one of her stablemates the last time she was here..."

O'Dell: "And Kat laser-focused, wasting no time getting down the aisle and into the ring. She's helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that yellow bikini she likes, and that's 'Hungarian Rhapsody #2' by Liszt, and here comes Brenda Song..."

Cassie: "Either that or a corpse flower has just bloomed in the arena..."

McCarthy: "Song, of course, is the top-ranked BAZZ FLYWEIGHT..."

Cassie: "Brenda Song does NOT represent the Bazz Fight Club. And her breath smells like a freshly-cracked ancient Egyptian tomb!"

O'Dell: "Brenda has a glare for Cassandra Lynn on her way down the aisle and it's returned in kind..."

Tess: "You'll note, however, that Cassie is maintaining control and not yelling about Brenda 'eying' her and getting us pulled off the air..."

McCarthy: "SHUT IT, WALMART!"

O'Dell: "Drink up, boys, and get an eyeful as Brenda is helped off with the robe to reveal a black number..."

Cassie: "And the body of a ten-year-old boy..."

McCarthy: "Truck, be ready to pot down Scabbo's mic, because her head is going to explode when Song wins..."

O'Dell(sighing): "The ladies are about ready and it IS time for picks. Mac has just gone on record, and Tess also favors Brenda. Do I need to ask, Cassie?"

Cassie: "Kat WILL beat Buffalo Breath Brenda. And I WILL enjoy it."

O'Dell: "And the first is underway. Graham immediately on her bicycle. She's bouncin' and misbehavin', dancing, popping jabs, using her reach and speed to keep Song at bay. Brenda keeping the hands high, trying to work forward, but Kat keeping the distance..."

Cassie: "Mostly because a gasoline tanker full of Scope couldn't extinguish the stench of Song's breath..."

O'Dell: "Brenda with that unorthodox style, trying to angle and slip punches, but Graham getting that jab on target and stopping Brenda in her tracks with it. Song getting touched up right now. Not hurt, but she's getting her face powdered..."

Tess: "Graham so quick and athletic. The speed and dancers legs the big reasons Front Street signed her. She's had some disappointments lately, but you can see the tools she has to work with..."

O'Dell: "Indeed, you can, and she's making very good use of same. She's just not THERE when Brenda tries to hit her. Song can't close, can't cut, can't get anything done. Graham getting plenty of leather home, however, as she dances and jabs right to the bell."

McCarthy: "Good round for Graham, but it's only 10-9 and it's plenty early."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "Second begins with a more flat-footed Graham. Kat snapping out the quick jab, looking to follow on with hard rights. Song angling, slipping, countering now..."

McCarthy: "Some good counter-punching from Brenda. We've seen how effective she can be doing that when she was here against Meester..."

O'Dell: "And we're seeing it again. Graham jabbing, trying to follow, but every time she throws a punch, Song finds an opening for a counter. Brenda getting clean stuff home, backing Graham up..."

Cassie: "She needs to MOVE. Graham needs to MOVE. She shouldn't be standing there..."

O'Dell: "The Front Street corner agrees with you, and they're letting Kat know it. But Graham ignoring them. Planting her feet, getting some power behind those punches, but Song picking them off, slipping them, and landing hard counters in response. Final seconds tick away and there's the bell. No question who got that one."

Tess: "And Song's tied it at 19."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Third underway and Kat heard it in the corner between rounds. She was told in no uncertain terms to get moving, but again she's mostly flat-footed, fighting lead, trying to put together flurries but again being nailed by sharp counters from Song..."

Tess: "What's Graham's thinking here, Mac?"

McCarthy: "She has fast hands, and she thinks she can beat Song to punches. She's not wrong. The problem is, she's doing exactly what Brenda wants her to do. Song loves to counterpunch, and Graham's letting her do it."

O'Dell: "Song definitely not as quick as Graham, but, she's not exactly slow herself, and, again, she has that unorthodox style, that excellent defense, and those precision counters..."

Cassie: "She also has breath that makes the Paris sewer system smell like a field of wild flowers in the spring..."

O'Dell: "Song using all that, not the breath, but the rest of it, to offset the speed and score again and again in counter. Graham IS getting punches on target, but she's not putting them together, and she's getting outscored again as the final seconds tick away ending round three."

Tess: "And Song takes the lead 29-28."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "Fourth begins with Graham again flat-footed, but coming forward now, snapping out the jab, following on with right hands, showing a ton of volume now..."

Tess: "Trying to suppress, Mac?"

McCarthy: "You've learned a few things from sitting next to me, Walmart. That's exactly it. She's upping the work rate and pressing forward to cut down on opportunities for Song to counter."

O'Dell: "And it's working. You're seeing a lot more of Brenda covering up, keeping the hands high, working to pick punches off and slip others. Song still landing in counter, though, still getting her points..."

Tess: "Front Street corner is not at ALL happy about this, despite the fact that it's succeeding to a point. They want Graham moving..."

O'Dell: "They do, indeed, but that's not how this is playing out. Kat's continuing with the forward pressure. Getting the hands off, forcing Song backward. Brenda still slick, though, finding spots and landing solid counters. Graham a GOOD combination! Her best of the fight. Song responds with a HARD right in counter and that's the bell. Close. But Graham."

Cassie: "And we're tied at 38."

ROUND FIVE:

O'Dell: "Fifth underway and Graham again making with the pressure and the barrage of leather. Song adjusting, giving ground and sliding left and right, angling up, finding openings for those sharp counters..."

Tess: "This style of Song's. We've said it before, but, it's VERY hard to deal with..."

Cassie: "Not nearly as difficult as dealing with her BREATH, which smells like a cave filled to its roof with bat guano..."

O'Dell: "Brenda definitely frustrating Kat. She's all angles and movement and punches coming from places where you wouldn't expect them. Graham getting punches off, but she's not landing a high enough percentage, and every miss creates an opening for a nice counter or two from Song..."

McCarthy: "Song's taking her to SCHOOL right now..."

O'Dell: "Mostly, it would seem, because Graham's fighting Song's fight. And Brenda's taking full advantage of it. She's got Graham hesitating now, jabbing with the left and holding the right, not wanting to expose herself to the counter, but Brenda finding space for them anyway. Final seconds ticking away in the fifth and there's the bell. Song wide."

Tess: "And Brenda now ahead 48-47 at the half."

ROUND SIX:

O'Dell: "Sixth begins like the fifth ended. Graham flat-footed, pushing forward, letting the hands go, trying to suppress Song. Brenda slipping, picking off, countering very well. Song giving ground, changing elevations, slipping off square, stepping in to land a combination, then sliding back and away..."

McCarthy: "Song in a good rhythm now. She's not being troubled by anything Graham's doing."

O'Dell: "Doesn't appear to be. Brenda quite content to dip and slip, slide and counter. Graham again landing some stuff, but missing too much, giving Song far too many openings for counters like THAT ONE! A nasty right hand by Brenda and Kat's wobbled!"

Tess: "Great counter!"

O'Dell: "Graham covering up as Song goes to town with both hands now. RIGHT HOOK AND DOWN GOES GRAHAM!"

Cassie: "You SERIOUSLY can't fix STUPID..."

O'Dell: "Song to a neutral corner Graham down on her back. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Graham rolls to her belly. Seven. Eight. Kat to hands and knees. Nine. TEN! It's over!"

Cassie: "Un-FREAKING-believable..."

O'Dell: "And your winner by KO6 is Brenda Song!"

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"

Tess: "I have our winner, Brenda Song, and, Brenda, quite a performance tonight..."

Brenda: "Well, THANK you, Tess. It's nice to be interviewed by a REAL journalist this time. As for the fight, I have a big load on my shoulders being the ALPHA fly at Bazz, so a certain level of performance is EXPECTED from me. I hope I didn't disappoint tonight..."

Tess: "What's next for Brenda Song?"

Brenda: "Obviously, I have my eye on Hudgens. I plan to be Bazz's first flyweight champion and prove once and for all that management did the right thing by dumping that loser Gomez, DEMOTING their other fly, and giving ME top billing."
