BEFORE: Just few weeks ago Jennifer Carpenter had Odette Yustman at her mercy but fumbled a golden opportunity to secure one of the upsets of the year and now has to revert to some slightly less demanding opposition to find out whether she can actually complete a destruction job proper or will she forever be regarded as one of those who always come up short despite a lot of promise. Because there is a lot of promise in the 35 year old brunette who keeps stalking the likes of Yustman and Yvonne Strahovski which can be viewed as pure overconfidence more often than not and it would be best advised to secure an otherwise valuable second tier scalp before challenging the elite fighters again.

However Phoebe Tonkin doesn't think she's second tier at all and in fact plans to simply pound Carpenter's brains out to raise her own stock. With Odette Yustman losing her Ice Hotel title in the so-called mean time there's some talk about the Aussie actress targeting the California brunette herself as the unofficial matchmaking endures another new twist. This being said, beating Carpenter seems essential for Tonkin to get rid of the second tier label and girls like Yustman even considering her as a genuine threat.

Jennifer Carpenter wears a black basque top, matching knickers, red boots & gloves. Long brown hair straight. Phoebe Tonkin wears a navy blue basque top, black knickers, white boots & gloves. Brown hair in loose waves. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.

Round 1:
Jennifer's committed to an early onslaught but Phoebe response likewise and both women trade vicious facial leather from the onset trying to establish superiority as quickly as possible. Neither one secures the breakthrough allthough a couple of lumps appear on Tonkin's face but she drives her gloves into the American's midsection down the stretch and starts to back the ultra aggressive opponent back to the ropes. Carpenter's forced to fight from the back foot but scores the hardest punch of the lot to smack Phoebe's nose and halt her actions briefly. The Aussie girl wobbles to the side and that's enough for Jennifer to strike over the top and walk away from the ropes, trigger jabbing slices Phoebe's guard afterwards and we go back to the opposite direction as Carpenter pounds the younger brunette instead and lands more jabs on the nose to make Tonkin moan quietly at the bell, that last charge pretty much secured the American an otherwise too-close-to-call round.

Round 2:
Phoebe blasts a cross on the mouth to open the second round; she beats Jennifer for pace and starts ripping into her face in vicious fashion leaving lumps along the way and staggering the American to the spot. Jennifer fails to strike back from the heels again and has to cover up as Tonkin enforces a close range brawl and whups the older brunette around the ropes to secure more success. Carpenter's woefully wayward down the stretch, smacks single punches off Phoebe's forearms and gets pounded back to the ropes as neither woman shows supreme agility and footwork to escape punishment and it's all about soaking up leather instead. Phoebe traps her foe on the ropes in the final minute but reverts into midriff assault as she can't slice the guard again, still does more than enough to pull the scorecards even at this early stage and deprive Carpenter from any run away start the American had hoped for.

Round 3:
It's another cross hook on the nose opening the third round but this time Jennifer gets on top of that punch and beats the Australian by a fraction to snap the dark waves around Tonkin's neck. A left handed follow up nails Phoebe on the chin and sinks her deep with a whimper which paves the way for another furious exchange with Jennifer drilling her mitts against the cheeks and making sure Tonkin displays more facial bruises again. A carbon copy of the second round but this time it's Phoebe all covered up and soaking up punishment, getting pounded back to the ropes and having to drop her guard low as Carpenter ravages the ribcage ever since the middle minute. The clinching efforts are futile and Jennifer digs a stray elbow between her rival's arms to gain any kind of extra advantage, ref tries to drag her off but as Phoebe thinks she's safe there's no command given and Jennifer blasts her across the nose again to raise the moaning volume and make some people jeer the American in disgust. Tonkin's not quite aware of her whereabouts for a moment and ref refuses to pull Jennifer away with just a few seconds on the clock left; paves the way for the American to drill heavy leather into the younger brunette's guts and Tonkin slumps badly at the bell after a very unfortunate ending to an otherwise terrible round.

Round 4:
Phoebe wants to bide some time and blatantly clinches the American who tries to slip by on the tummy but is wrestled back to the ropes and ref has his hands full through the minute mark; Tonkin just refuses to let go and receives a warning but has none of it and in fact catches a visibly bemused opponent with another cross hook on the nose to trigger a right old barrage of punches most of the flyweights would be proud of. Neither girl wants to yield an inch in the second minute and we've got two very bruised brunettes as a result, Carpenter wobbles forward and settles for a clinch herself. Tonkin rests butt-in-ropes but she's nailed her foe with a couple of really big hits and some people in the audience are surprised this bout hasn't drawn any blood yet. Both girls gasp for air at the bell and Jennifer's got a dark patch across her left cheek and feels the swelling increasing with every second as Phoebe consults her corner about further tactics. The all-in bashing could turn very sour very quickly indeed but neither woman seems to care about the defence much in first place!

Round 5:
Sure enough, another powerful attack from both sides and Phoebe's breathing heavier of the two but wades in right on right overhand... AND CARPENTER SCORES... she tags the Aussie's temple and follows up with a left hand through the middle to burst Tonkin's nose into a bloody mess.... "Ahhhh....", a loud shriek signals the younger brunette's troubles as she gets rooted to the spot with that combo and fails to raise her arms in time for more American leather just ripping through her cheeks and snapping the head back & forth a few times.... TIIIIIIMBBBBBEEEEEERRRRRRRRRR!!! Tonkin crashes HARD on her back having just endured a facial barrage of the highest order.... Jennifer leaps in the air and scream out in delight, displays the bloody stains on her red gloves to the crowd and there are clearly visible indeed... Phoebe's busted up nosed doesn't prevent her from making an effort to beat the count, but it's a slow one and she only rises up at eight.. a very slow eight that was... Jennifer wants to resume the punishment as the ref checks up with the doctor... it's a fifty-fifty call but Phoebe is allowed to continue however she just trips back to the ropes and wants to wipe the blood with her forearm instead of defending from the oncoming disaster... Carpenter wades in on the head again and just rocks the wounded Aussie with some brute force... Tonkin's reduced to a smoking mess in no time and has nothing left to give as the American apparently wants to fracture her nose or something... The ref realizes he's made a mistake here and finally hauls Carpenter off her prey, should have been so effective in the third round when Phoebe was still in a very good shape but it's a bloodbath in the making and the poor guy almost slips on the blood Jennifer punched out of the fellow brunette's nose... Bloody TKO5 Jennifer Carpenter!!!

AFTER: That was outright gruesome finish to an otherwise aggressive fight and this time Jennifer truly made sure her opponent doesn't escape the ineviteable finish. Letting Odette Yustman off the hook was bad enough for her elite prospects but another miscue against the Aussie actress would have been almost criminal. Carpenter pumps herself across the chest leaving more bloody marks as her gloves are almost soaking red and poor Phoebe just sits down in the ring and indicates her nose might have well been broken by the older brunette. What a carnage here but that's what you get when two tall lightweights try to emulate some of the classic flyweight antics... there's just too much strenght in these girls not to expect blood spilling all over the canvas...

Asked afterwards about her performance Jennifer says: "I don't care if I broke her nose or not! I'm not a dirty fighter, I just want to hand a proper beating to anyone who questions my superiority. For any independent girl this attitude is essential to ever make it big in this league. We both wanted to destroy each other but I was simply the better woman. No love lost. That's all. And I bet Yvonne, Odette and Mary Elizabeth have noticed this result and know I will be knocking on their doors again soon!"
