Elodie Frege vs. Pink
(Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)

Third time around for these two singers, but, interestingly, not a rubber match. Pink has won both times. But. Both fights also went ten rounds, and Frege was the story at the end of each, the first time around for taking terrific punishment and refusing to break, and, the second time, for bringing out a new fighting style that allowed her to hold her favored rival to a narrow decision. "And, now is the time I win," says Frege with a smile. "The first time, I had a problem with how physical she was. The second time, I found a way to deal with that and lost by a single point. Tonight, it will be my hand that's raised."

"See," Pink says shaking her head, "I've told people all along this girl could fight. You make it to the tenth with Pinkness, you've got some ability. But, nobody believed me. Then, she goes out and takes out Pressly and Alba, and, they're all 'Wow! Frege's better than we thought.' Well, Yeah. Just like I said. Thing is, though, we've been down this road twice before. Result was the same both times. Not going to be any different tonight."

ROUND ONE:

Frege clearly remembers the previous two fights. In the former, she fought mid-ring, tried to box, and ran into major problems with Pink's power, quickness, and athleticism. The second time, she fought like Britney  Lite, from the pocket. And that style worked a lot better. So, it's no surprise that Elodie channels the Hall of Famer immediately in this one. She gives ground, backs to the ropes, leans back in the high guard, and invites Pink to have at her. Pinkness, however, remembers the last fight, too. She remembers getting too aggressive and giving away points. Not this time. Instead, the Front Streeter sets about a strategic assault. She works some body. Sets up her punches. Works to limit the openings for Frege to counter. But, Elodie is nothing if not slick. She finds openings. She creates the odd opening. She gets punches home. Works combinations. Scores her points. And claims the first and the 10-9 lead, the first she's ever had in 21 rounds against Pink.

ROUND TWO:

More of the same. Frege very comfortable in the pocket. It's a style that emphasizes her strengths, slick boxing skill, precision punching, and a high ring intelligence. She uses those strengths along with quick hands to work the counters to perfection. Pink, meanwhile, remains under control. It's a slow, careful siege. She's not going to shell her ammunition dumps flat, like she did in earlier fights. She works hard, but not too hard. She conserves energy and makes every punch count. She works upstairs, but also invests in the body. It's a textbook way to attack the pocket from a girl who's not much for boxing textbooks. The result is similar to round one. Both girls score, but Frege scores more. When the bell sounds, Elodie is up 20-18.

ROUND THREE:

The siege of Elodie continues. Frege not just comfortable in the pocket, she's slick in it. She doesn't make the mistake some girls do and rely too much on her guard. She's all about movement of the head and shoulders, all about slipping and dipping and making herself as difficult a target as possible. But, about half way through the round, Pink finds the target in a big way, blasting home a right hook that shakes Frege and wobbles her knees. Everything changes at that moment. The American goes all in and the French beauty finds herself in serious trouble. Pink cuffs her along the ropes, landing her best punches of the fight, repeatedly hurting Elodie and getting the attention of the referee. As ever, though, Elodie tough as nails, refusing to give in. She hangs on, sometimes literally, clinching, holding, running clock, and she makes it to the end of the third. Pink claims the round wide, but Frege still leads 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Pink turns up the heat, then turns it right back down when she realizes Frege has, surprisingly, has shaken off most of the effects of last round. Elodie's back in slick pocket mode, so Pink gets back to the work of slowly reducing the French beauty. The round isn't a carbon copy of the first two. Pink is a bit busier, a bit more effective. But, Elodie is still masterful in the counter, still able to get punches through keyholes and take advantage of any and all openings in the American's defense. She's also able to block, deflect, duck, dodge, and roll with much of what Pink sends upstairs. The Front Streeter doesn't get frustrated, though. She stays under control, keeps working, and keeps scoring, and makes the round closer. But, Frege, narrowly, takes it again, and extends her lead to 39-37.

ROUND FIVE:

Pink's work beginning to bear fruit. Elodie's body pinking up. The French beauty wincing as Pink continues to rip leather into her flanks, ribs, and midsection. She keeps the guard high, keeps moving, but she's not moving as well, and that means Pink can get more leather home upstairs. Frege's offense, however, not affected. She's still using each and every opportunity to counter, and she's still deadly accurate with both hands. As a result, more good punches land in this round than in any of the first four. Both women take some clean shots, and both ship the shell and keep coming back for more. The work rate actually increases as the round goes on, and some spirited exchanges occur in the final 30 seconds. When it's over, it's close again, but Pink's gotten the round and halved Frege's lead again. It's now 48-47.

ROUND SIX:

Things settle right back in. Pink on the assault, Frege counter punching from the pocket. Pink investing more heavily in the body, but, despite all the work she's done there, Frege's work rate not slowing. She's still counter punching extremely well, sometimes landing clean shot that sends sweat flying from Pink's head. The American, mean while, bringing grimaces to Elodie's lovely face with her tenderizing shots to the midsection and ribs, one of which bunches Elodie up for the first time. And Pink does not waste the opportunity. When Frege ducks down, a whistling uppercut blasts into her face. Elodie staggers, stumbles, and nearly goes down! And, for the second time in the fight, Pink calls in an artillery barrage. All guns begin firing as the Front Streeter becomes intent on ending the French beauty's night immediately. Frege sent wobbling along the ropes, ends up trapped in a corner. Pink pounds her relentlessly, but, as always, Frege game. She fires back as best she can, covers up, clinches, hangs on, runs out the clock. Again, she's taken a beating, but, again, she's given up only a single point. And, after six, we're all even at 57.

ROUND SEVEN:

Pink turns up the heat. And then turns it up some more. Elodie has not shaken off the results of the last round this time. She's clearly still buzzed and wobbly, and Pink's going to take full advantage. Now she'll fire her artillery until her ammo dumps are flat. Or until something else is. It's a left hook this time. People forget that Pink is left handed, because she boxes righty. But, she is a natural lefty, and that means the most natural power is in the left hand. The hook is set up by a straight right that splits Frege's gloves and knocks her head back, allowing the left to go behind Elodie's right glove and crash into her chin. Head swivel. FRENCH GIRL DOWN! Elodie spills along the ropes, bouncing off and landing face down at Pink's feet. The Front Streeter takes her time getting to a neutral corner. She knows there's no rush. The power's been cut and it's not coming back on any time soon. Frege never moves as the count passes her by. And your winner by KO7 is Pink!

AFTER:

Frege brought around in the proverbial stages. When that's completed, Pink demonstrates the respect and sort of kinship that's developed between the two fighters by going over to check on her opponent and tapping gloves with her before the post-fight interview. "Like I said, she can fight," Pink says with a nod. "This style of hers is tough to crack. She's very slick, and, if you let her hang around, you might not like what you find on the cards. I couldn't take that chance. Had to get her out of there. That was never going to be easy, but, I don't need 'easy'. Pinkness does difficult very, very well."
