TESS VALMORE

VEGA/ BENSON An interesting fight while it lasted. Vega was having some success early on, taking three of the first four rounds. In the fifth, Benson went to work on Vega’s body with good effect. She continued the body attack in the fifth until Vega’s arms started to drop. Then, a couple uppercuts and a straight right between the eyes ended Vega’s hope of victory as she was counted out

HALE/ GOMEZ A hard punching fight that was going Gomez’s way in the first three rounds as she landed punch after punch causing Hale’s lips to swell and then split. The fourth round, began Hale’s comeback as she took that round and the next two. She had Gomez rubbery legged at the end of the six . Gomez looked like a beaten fighter at the beginning of the seventh. Before the seventh ended, she was a beaten fighter. She went down from a punch to the jaw. She beat the count, but was shattered along the ropes and the referee stopped the fight

DANES/ VANDERVOORT The D-Train rolled once more. Vandervoort took the first two rounds, then Danes took over. By the end of the fifth, Vandervoort was a mess, her hairline cut, lips and jaw swollen. Vandervoort managed to win the sixth, but that was her last hurrah. Danes use Vandervoort face for a punching bag until Vandervoort finally went down and stayed down as the ten count passed

LILLY/ M.KELLY The first half of this fight belonged to Lilly as she took three of the first five rounds and scored a knockdown in the third. Lilly then took the sixth and seventh to take a big lead going into the final three rounds. The fates weren’t kind to Lilly. Kelly scored a knockdown in the eighth, pitched a shutout in the ninth and pulled out the win by taking the final round. Kelly got a one point decision

HEWITT/ BECKINSALE This bout was even at the end of four very active rounds. In the fifth, Hewitt unloaded on her opponent who was barely able to make it to her corner at the end of the round. It got worse for Beckinsale in the sixth. Hewitt pretty much pounded her at will until Beckinsale went down. Beckinsale made the mistake of getting up as Hewitt unleashed a savage beating that turned Beckinsale face into a bloody mess and the referee justifiably stopped the bout

CANALIS/ B.LIVELY I have admit I don’t know much about Canalis. I figured Lively needed rounds, so I never considered that Canalis might win this bout. When she was ahead on the cards at the end of three, I figured it was only a matter of time. Fortunately I was right. Lively tore into Canalis in the fourth. She was saved by the bell at the end of the round. In the next round a left/right combination dropped Canalis. She made it he feet at the nine count but was defenseless, so the referee called a halt to the bout giving Lively a TKO5

CUOCO/ GARNER What is it with older Hall Of Fame fighters who keep fighting after they have retired once? I will say Garner managed to make a fight of it. It was a hard punching back and forth brawl that had Cuoco hurt in the fifth and Garner in the sixth. Both were in poor shape going into the seventh. After a flurry of punches, Garner went down and was unable to rise to beat the count. I have been hard on Theron however, Garner’s recent record is even worse. She is something like 2-9 in her last 11. It’s time to hang them up for good

STRAHOVSKI/ T. COLE This was the best fight of the night up to this point. A real slugging brawl. No finesse, nothing cute, just power punching. Cole had the lead at the end of six due to a second round knockdown and she had also caused an injury above Strahovski’s left eye. The slugging continued in the seventh, this time going Strahovski’s way and by the end of the round Cole’s face was a mess. Strahovski continue to have the upper hand in the seventh until she sank a right into Cole’s liver. Cole went down and the fight was over. A huge win for Strahovski over one of the most dangerous fighters in the FCBA. That should catapult her back into the title picture

UPTON/ T. WILSON I have no idea why some think that a 40 year old who has had one fight in four years can compete with a top ten welter unless you really think the welters are that bad. They are not. This is another fight were you knew it was only a matter of time. Even though Wilson had the lead at the end of four, it was matter of time. Time occurred the in sixth, when Upton landed a big right hand that left Wilson sleeping it off as the count passed ten

FREEMAN/ J. RYAN This was another fight were the question was not who was going to win but how long it would last. It lasted not quite six. Ryan did give a fairly good account of herself by fighting Freeman even for five. In the sixth, Freeman had a field day at the expense of Ryan, closing her right eye and punching here almost at will until two left hooks to the body and a straight right put Ryan out cold on the canvas

HUDGENS/ SCERBO I pains to talk about this bout because my BFF lost. but I have to and I will keep it brief. Another great slugging match. I thought Cassie had it won in the fourth when she floored Hudgens. My heart sank when Cassie went down in the sixth. I had high hopes again in the eighth as the champ went down again only to have my hopes dashed when Scerbo went down and couldn’t beat the count. Cassie will bounce back quickly. Count on it

WILDE/ C. HOLT This match was a contrast in styles with Wilde moving and jabbing and Holt stalking and power punching. Each fighter had her moments, but when crunch time came it was Holt’s power that proved decisive. In the eighth, Holt caught Wilde with counter to the chin that dropped Wilde on her face. She would beat the count but as so ofter happens, couldn’t prevent Holt from bashing away until the referee stepped in to save Wilde from more punishment

HELFER/ PERRY It is no secret that I was appalled when Helfer was awarded a title fight. I would have looked pretty bad had she won, but Katy saved me from embarrassment, Helfer did knock Perry down in the fourth however Perry returned the knockdown in the fifth. Perry had a one point lead going into the eighth. The fight ended in that round as a overhand Perry right connected with Helfer’s chin and the fight was over

RUAH/ REGAN Two fighters that I like. Too bad one of them had to lose. I thought Regan’s power would be the deciding factor. For once, I was right. Daniela managed to stay even with Bridget through four. Between rounds four and five, Bridget got a talking to from Pointy and whatever he said got the job done. In the fifth. a powerful left cross caught Ruah on the chin and down she went. She managed to get to her feet, but as so ofter happens, was an easy target and the bout was stopped
