THE WELTERWEIGHT REVIVAL - ROUND ONE

BEFORE: First up on the night are Sarah Lancaster and Karen Gillan, both somehwat overwhelmed to open the Welterweight Revival action but when someone has beaten Amanda Righetti for the lineal title before, nothing in the FCBA world should come as a surprise anymore. That's the case with Lancaster who's one of the most overlooked unmanaged big girls around the organization, probably the most overlooked since Cassidy Freeman dropped out of free agency over three years ago.
Meanwhile Gillan enjoys the Lookout! Atlantic support and no girl has ever earned herself such a negative record under Michelle Trachtenberg's and Nicole Richie's guidance, four defeats in four fights is almost an insult to common sense and one must wonder if there's extra pressure to perform on the Scottish redhead since those numbers are hard to accept even by the European branch of the mighty Lookout! stable's standards.
Sarah Lancaster wears a white one piece swimsuit and red gloves. Dark brown hair in loose waves. Karen Gillan wears a black one piece swimsuit and blue gloves. Carrot-like hair long straight. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.
Round 1:
If anyone expected a slow start to this bout then he's up for a surprise as Sarah just wades in on the redhead and smacks her mitts aside to snap the head back and give Karen a proper introduction to the Revival tournament. Gillan tries to respond but bounces off the guard and has to back off down the stretch as Lancaster shows superior committement and swings around the redhead's temples to keep her dancing around in avoidance before a clubbing hook on the nose spins her onto the ropes. Sarah traps Karen with some precise jabbing and pummels through the guard to put the hammer down early; reverts into punishing her navel afterwards and signs off the one-way traffic display by clipping Gillan's jugs to leave her looking at the brunette in complete disbelief at the bell.
Round 2:
Karen jumps the gun for the second round and beats Sarah for an early overhand before driving her mitts into the brunette's guts and enforcing a close range brawl thereafter. Lancaster struggles to stretch her elbows in such a stance and gets bumped off into earmuff cover as Karen works the midsection assault to claw herself back into this fight before sending more hooks over the top down the stretch. Sarah endures some cheek bruising as her guard proves equally vulnerable and wobbles back onto the ropes but the redhead runs out of time to add further punishment.
Round 3:
Another furious start from Gillan who shows superior agility and footwork to put Lancaster under immediate pressure. More close range brawling gives the Lookout! redhead the desired result as she pierces the brunette's ribcage and bends her forward before slicing the mitts with a vicious uppercut that finds the chin clean... Sarah winces in pain and wobbles with her arms going astray and falls into more leather assault from Karen who digs a jabbing combo on the cheeks and cross hooks the mouth thereafter to sink Lancaster on jelly knees all of the sudden.. another piercing uppercut catches her on the jaw and SENDS CRASHING DOWN ON HER KNEES as Karen unloads some welterweight power to score the first knockdown of the tournament... Sarah seems equally shocked as most of the Las Vegas audience but it doesn't take a lot when a proper welter punch finds it's target... She's back to her feet at six but bellows out into a desperate cover afterwards as Karen pounds her towards the turnbuckle and seeks more midsection punishment; leaves the brunette all covered up and looking out of her depth at the bell as the Lookout! Atlantic entourage celebrate the breakthrough performance from their redhead protegee.
Round 4:
Lancaster's forced to accept more close range brawling and struggles to land even a single clean punch as Gillan pummels her around the ring to run away with this fight; she remains on top of the brunette in the footwork department and allthough she can't slice through the high guard anymore, she's easily finding her range by piercing Sarah's ribcage and trapping her along the ropes in the second half of the round. Another one-sided display from the redhead who drops her aggressive stance in the closing minute but still meets no response from the cumbersome brunette who needs to find a way to break the close range heat if she hopes to advance to the semi-finals. That's three in a row for Gillan whose smile keeps getting bigger as she high-fives her entourage during the interval.
Round 5:
Sarah goes for some body assault after another quick tangle in the middle of the ring has her changing her plans to mirror Karen's tactics. Both women are looking to find that painful shot on the liver but settle into a clinch afterwards where Lancaster can catch some respite. She refuses to let the redhead go and is given a warning as the fight enters an ugly period with the brunette seemingly unable to punch herself out of trouble. Gillan is annoyed at first but then gets reminded that Lancaster ain't gonna beat her via wrestling and shoving and accepts the tactics allthough Sarah finds a late combo on the ribs and muscles her back against the turnbuckle where she clips the redhead's jugs and tries to thump her on the cheeks as well to show there's still some spark left in her somewhat against the run of play.
Round 6:
Gillan expects more clinching tactics from the brunette but gets whacked across the mouth in a feisty approach and it seems like Lancaster has teased her into a false sense of security as more punches crash off the redhead's cheeks and wobble her on the back foot before Sarah finds a piercing hook on the liver area to send Karen backing into the ropes with a loud gasp. Before the redhead can raise her guard again she gets plastered with a quick hook on the brow ridge and succumbs to a barrage of leather in the second minute where Sarah gets all vocal in her efforts and finally lands one hook on the brow ridge too many... GILLAN CRASHES DOWN ON HER BACKSIDE and leans her head against the ropes with Sarah adjusting her loose hair and just staring down at her full of venom... Karen takes her time and cheks up whether she's not been cut around the eye, the swelling is there but no blood drawn just yet and she resumes the fight relatively unharmed however she sags on the ropes as Lancaster tries to drill her way through on the face again but comes up short despite a lot of effort.
Round 7:
We're back to square on but Sarah maintains the trigger happy attitude and smacks the redhead on the face with superior ammount of punches while Karen just tries to block her off and drag into more wrestling stalemate herself. She still sends few shots on the brunette's midriff but becomes too wary of the overhand response and keeps circling back and forth while Sarah does look a bit tired now as well and just fails to back up her previous round knockdown with another full blooded display. It's almost like she's relieved she pulled the knockdown back and settles into a shoving match come the final minute which leaves this fight really hanging in limbo.
Round 8:
Gillan pierces the ribcage with a measured hook and shows superior agility again, it's like she really wasn't all that hurt by the knockdown and excels in exposing Sarah's lack of wicked aggression and now stalks the brunette's liver area to score easy harpoons around the elbows. Lancaster bumps her off for a while and remains lively on her feet until the second minute when Gillan's menacing tactics finally become too much to handle and reel an aching brunette back to the ropes through sheer ammount of effort. Sarah tries to clinch her rival again but gets whacked on the navel and Karen digs into her breadbasket and blocks off the clinch, left handed assault pummels the brunette's guts into a moaning slump as Lancaster almost has the plug pulled on her in that exchange and looks to be in serious shortage of fresh breath come the bell. However Karen doesn't look all that great anymore either and bends over with her gloves touching her knees and both girls suffer a lot of pain going eight rounds after such a lenghty period outside the ropes in recent months.
Round 9:
It's a survival battle now as both girls settle into a single punching exchange without risking too much. Since it's one knockdown each nobody's forced into doing anything really aggressive and there's a visible lack of energy on both sides. The Las Vegas crowd realizes the girls just don't have anything in their tanks left and refuse to jeer them but urge any of these two to mount a last-ditch attack that could swing the scorecards into the eventual winner's favor. Ten seconds left and Sarah circles back with hands dropped, Karen tries to stalk her nonetherless and sends a looping cross but misses.. and gets caught with a piercing uppercut on the jugs that is followed by a crisp left hander on the brow ridge that wobbles the redhead back to the opposite side of the ring.. Lancaster doesn't even try to chase her foe down and the clock expires moments later anyway...
Round 10:
Karen's brow ridge is really swollen now and that last hook in the ninth resulted in it growing to the size that the redhead's vision is badly impaired... Sarah notices that and keeps swinging left hooks around as Gillan just tries to clinch and wrestle... a couple of punches still find the target and force the redhead into a desperate earmuff but that's the wrong tactics so close to the finish line... Lancaster jumps into one last frenzy after all and keep sending the high assault, she backs Karen into the ropes come the second minute and rips more vicious shots to the point the guard collapses and Gillan can't deke to the side in avoidance either... A riffling combo on the brow ridge slumps Karen's head between her shoulders and makes her cry out in pain before Sarah clips her on the nose to add further insult to injury... She rocks Gillan's head back & forth as there's no resistance and pure strenght left in the redhead anymore and as the ref tries to see out the barrage for whatever reason, Lancaster digs one last hook on the swollen brow ridge TO SEND A MUMBLING GILLAN CRASHING TO HER SIDE with eyes closed... And there's no coming back from that one as Karen bursts into a sobbing wreck and only rolls on her back covering her face with both gloves... she simply can't make it back up to her feet and it's KO10 Sarah Lancaster in bruising fashion!!!
AFTER: Lancaster's too exhausted to even celebrate that success and indicates she'd be hard pressed to endure a potential overtime... she collapses to her knees right next to a sobbing Gillan and bends her head aginst the redhead's tummy... The crowd gives both these women a standing ovation for their efforts and it's almost a shame someone had to lose tonight... Karen didn't look so out of depth against a woman who's beaten Amanda Righetti before and but for her infrequent activity over the last few months she'd be the celebrating the semi-final entrance instead of the brunette. However Sarah did seem to be the harder of the two punchers which made the difference in the closing stages of the fight where Karen's brow ridge just couldn't handle the repeated attacks anymore and resulted in her gruesome demise.
Final result: Sarah Lancaster def. Karen Gillan KO10.
