THE WELTERWEIGHT REVIVAL - ROUND ONE

Posted by Lookout! Boxing & Vassago on April 5, 2015, 10:50 am

BEFORE: Paula Patton enters the welterweight tournament as one of the favorites having scored two big wins over Elizabeth Berkley and Christina Hendricks this year already however Jodi Lyn O'Keefe is not afraid of the tough competition; despite her limited FCBA record she's faced Amanda Righetti before and didn't look all that bad against one of the elite stars of the whole organization. Still, in wake of Patton's hot streak she's regarded as the underdog but one can't rule out a genuine upset too quickly especially that any welterweight clash can be turned on it's head by literally a single punch thanks to the superior power display from most of the women involved.

Paula Patton wears a bandeau orange bikini and black gloves. Black hair tied in a high ponytail. Jodi Lyn O'Keefe wears a red bikini set and white gloves. Dark brown hair tied in a braid. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.

Round 1:
Both women tangle in a feisty exchange to lift the Caesars Palace crowd on their feet seconds into the fight especially when Jodi Lyn whacks Paula on the nose big time and almost spins the older actress into a full circle before stalking her with more facial assault. Patton's forced into an early escape as Jodi shows her now respect whatsoever and hammers away from both hands clattering heavy punches between the mitts and snapping the head back repeatedly. Talk about an upset as it's all O'Keefe thereafter too; she just whips Paula's head back & forth and pounds her onto the ropes where she tries a midsection switch but that proves to be the wrong choice as Patton wraps herself around the raging younger brunette and survives the round in a very much enforced and needed clinch. She hardly smacked Jodi Lyn with a good punch and just shrugs her head in anger.

Round 2:
O'Keefe works the pacey approach mixed with some big punching again and beats Patton for a quick overhand however fails to establish such a commanding position again and has to settle for a measured leather exchange in mid distance. Paula tries to score her first meaningful action of the bout and works the high tempo drill aimed at her rival's head but Jodi's a bit too quick to fall into serious trouble and swings with equally committed jabs to land the better punches and smack Paula's ponytail around her neck. Patton winces in her efforts but struggles to pierce the guard and is backed towards the turnbuckle late on before jumping away at the last moment in pure avoidance fashion as O'Keefe takes another round in fairly comfortable fashion and even affords herself a cheeky smile after noticing Paula's scowling disapproval in the opposite corner.

Round 3:
Jodi Lyn goes for another big punch to set the tone for the remainder of the round but Paula for once ducks underneath it and sends powerful harpoons to the body instead staggering the younger brunette for the first time tonight. A close range brawl follows where Patton finally finds her stride and pushes O'Keefe backwards and dumps her onto the ropes with more piercing spikes. Jodi seeks a clinching solution but eats a quick uppercut on the chin as Paula moves up high and switches to a facial assault full-time thereafter. Jodi bellows out into an earmuff cover and struggles to respond from behind the guard as Patton wades in on the body late on and buries her butt-in-ropes to finally secure a round on the cards.

Round 4:
Jodi doesn't smile anymore but becomes too predictable for someone who has beaten Amanda Righetti before and Paula easily ducks underneath a high approach to resume a midsection punishment herself. O'Keefe keeps struggling in close range dust up and wobbles badly as she tries to escape with Patton cracking a on-two combo on the chest to make the younger brunette moan in pain. A desperate clinching effort goes for naught as well and has Paula bumping O'Keefe off towards the turnbuckle and sagging her cold with a powerful left hand on the nose... Jodi begins to feel the heat and just leans back in the corner and allows Paula to score further shots on the body and even slice the guard again as the brunette braid goes for a steady ride and has Jodi yelping in disarray at the bell with a couple of nasty shiners appearing on her left cheek already.

Round 5:
Paula switches her targets and goes for a facial assault from the onset, she beats Jodi Lyn for pace across the canvas and dissects her guard with a high tempo approach inside the opening twenty seconds before handing the cumbersome opponent a handful of leather through the minute mark. Jodi just doesn't have the agility and bendiness in her to handle the upgraded Patton stance and bellows out into sluggish single punches that skim off the forearms and guard as the older actress responds with pure offence and dominates the close range duell. She has Jodi backed deep into the corner and finds little trouble with thumping the guard aside as O'Keefe can't trigger any counterpunching given her foe's nearly inch perfect accuracy and. Patton demands more damage though and goes all vocal while shattering Jodi Lyn's mitts and smacking her across the nose ridge to leave a bloody mark come the bell. O'Keefe sinks on jelly knees afterwards and her sheer punching resistance needs to be questioned now in wake of Paula's vastly improved performance.

Round 6:
Jodi looks uneasy with that mark across her nasal ridge and tries to hang around in mid distance as long as she can however Paula just topples her movement and closes right down with more menacing hooks aimed at the head which enforces a classic dust up exchange that Patton wins in ruthless fashion by thumping the fellow brunette's jaw and adding a quick hook on the eye. O'Keefe wobbles onto the back foot after her own efforts only graze Paula's cheeks and drops her guard too low to provide cover for a lopping left hander crashing into her wounded nose again... That really pulls the plug on Jodi's resistance and she bends forward with a loud ache as she struggles to keep her balance anymore and Patton drives a heavy uppercut on the nose again to send the younger actress spinning onto the ropes. Jodi makes a desperate lunge for survival but doesn't have the pace in her to escape and gets wrenched by a left hand on the ear THAT SENDS HER TUMBLING TO THE SIDE in a flash... Jodi bumped her head against the boards as she went down and when she tries to get up she wobbles onto all fours instead and notices drops of blood marking the canvas... she checks her nose and sure enough, that last rally from Patton further opened the wound and that's just too much for the younger brunette who sits down on her heels while holding her injured nose and allows the ref to count her out!!! KO6 Paula Patton!!!

AFTER: That's three in a row for the Mission Impossible saga actress who remains strictly business in victory and just shakes her head while looking at her entourage: "That was just the matter of time!" No respect whatsoever for the fallen brunette who can only offer Patton a vicious death stare but not much else and despite a very promising start, Jodi Lyn was brutally exposed whenever Paula got really aggressive and delivered the bloody battle marks on her opponent.

Perhaps the betting odds played on O'Keefe's mind or Patton's upset of the year triump over Righetti a while back or the lack of frequent activity over her entire career. She just couldn't live with the A-level pressure and is now destined for a really tough time against Karen Gillan who showed much better durability in her too-close-to-call gruesome battle against Sarah Lancaster. Meanwhile Patton's semi-final clash with the former welterweight champion Lancaster seems poised to become another coin-flipper mauler at the very least. That would be exactly what the division needs to draw the all important attention!

Final result: Paula Patton def. Jodi Lyn O'Keefe KO6.
