THE WELTERWEIGHT REVIVAL - ROUND ONE

Posted by Lookout! Boxing on April 5, 2015, 10:52 am

BEFORE: Despite being the fifth string on welterweight's most powerful roster Megan Gale is widely regarded as the woman to beat on the Revival order of merit and comes in as hot favourite against the fellow brunette Katharine McPhee who has indeed complained about drawing the Floydian girl in the days leading up to this fight. However if you want to earn yourself a positive Boxing World Online reviews you have to dispatch all your opponents and someone had to draw Gale in the opening round; the collective sigh of relief among other entrants doesn't justify McPhee's stance and one has to wonder whether the Australian model has cast a mental spell on her peers despite being inactive for the last four years. The Floydian label still means THIS much among the welterweights and some trigger happy pundits predict a right old beating on hand which would even topple Paula Patton's rough treatment of Jodi Lyn O'Keefe in the previous fight.

Katharine McPhee wears a blue basque top, white hip-huggers and blue gloves. Black hair in loose waves. Megan Gale wears a red & white striped bikini top, red knickers and white gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a sleek ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.

Round 1:
Gale seeks making early statement and gallops into McPhee's path and starts thumping the guard aside as the actress struggles to live with the heat and just covers up all too quickly and accepts the model's superiority. Heavy slaps from Gale pierce the guard without much trouble and all those sparring sessions with Amanda Righetti indicate there's not a single rusty patch in her attire as she pounds a lacklustre opponent back to the ropes and adds more facial assault to rock Katharine's head back & forth come the final minute. McPhee sinks really badly afterwards and just can't land anything solid from behind the guard, skims off the forearms all the time and gets wrenched by a big hook on the nose right on the bell to tremble to the side with a loud painful gasp.

Round 2:
Another high-tempo start from Megan has her rocking Katharine's head again but the actress finally scores a good punch and goes for the model's body in a heated close range assault. It's almost all or nothing approach from McPhee who manages to slow the Aussie brunette down thereafter and smack her across the mouth with a well measured uppercut. Megan breaks the close range stance and realizes she perhaps won't send McPhee down for the count as quickly as she hoped for but down the stretch it's Katharine finding her rhythm in mid-range better and she pierces Gale's mitts repeatedly come the final minute with the model looking a bit unsure on her feet and struggling to regain her shot accuracy.

Round 3:
More of the same in the third, an early body attack has Gale wincing and struggling to stretch her elbows before a subsequent retreat hands the momentum back to McPhee who lands a couple of big hooks on the temples and starts hassling the favourite around the ring. Still Megan holds her own and whips heavy leather on the head herself, snaps Katharine's dark locks around her neck but fails to land that follow up pilrdriver and gets clinched as a result. McPhee wrestles her back to the corner and slips by for more ribcage jabbing which is something that Gale just can't shake off, even the ref doesn't come to the rescue and McPhee leaves a visible bruising on the model's ribs to make her look really angry at the bell.

Round 4:
McPhee tries to repeat the same trick but misses the overhand approach and gets belted across the chest with Megan all fired up again and lashing out in vengeful fashion. She throws a series of jabs in close range and forces the actress to cover up before thumping a midsection assault herself to bend McPhee to the side and seeking immediate respite. A well measured hook over the top smacks Katharine's mouth though and wobbles her onto the ropes; instead of trying to escape the actress wants to nail an oncoming model with another overhand but gets beaten for pace and whacked on the mouth herself to lean over the ropes and have Gale ripping through her ab muscles instead. Megan in supreme control along the ropes, punches the fellow brunette against the turnbuckle come the dying seconds and leaves similar bruises to the ones McPhee gave her in the previous round. But since she's the harder puncher of the two, Katharine hugs her aching guts in visible distress and walks back to her corner in considerable pain.

Round 5:
Megan realizes she's hurt Katharine to the body and it didn't take a lot to expose the vulnerable spot at all, immediate rushing attempt has McPhee almost tripping over her own feet in desperate retreat but not quick enough for Gale's looping hook that nails her on the left temple and wobbles against the ropes; this time McPhee tries to jump to the side but gets wrenched by another looping right hander on the nose and bends forward moaning. Megan unloads the uppercut piledriver straight between the shaky looking guard and it almost shoves Katharine's mitts against her cheeks as the punch finds the jaw and lifts the younger of the two brunettes off her feet and bouncing against the ropes dead meat... McPHEE COLLAPSES FLAT ON HER FACE like a sack of potatoes and that was a supreme one punch destruction from the Floydian girl... Ref starts the count but McPhee was just knocked out silly here and he soon realizes it's all for naught since the actress remains unresponsive to his actions and one should better call for the medical assistance instead... Wicked KO5 Megan Gale!!!

AFTER: That was a highlight KO from the Aussie model which put the entire Caesars Palace audience on their feet! Most people had Gale as the runaway favorite anyway but that was still scary good finish from the Floydian's most overlooked welterweight. Indeed, Megan gives the whole arena a really long look while placing her gloves on her hips in true XXI century Amazon-pose as if she demanded the tournament honors being GIFTED to her already while the medics desperately try to revive McPhee from her KO daze. If Paula Patton looked impressive against O'Keefe then what can the fans and experts alike say about Gale's performance? It's like she's never been away and well, Katharine really drew the short end of the stick with this match-up.

Final result: Megan Gale def. Katharine McPhee KO5.
