THE WELTERWEIGHT REVIVAL - ROUND ONE

BEFORE: It's the last bout of the night and most BBU fans should be more familiar with these girls than their American colleagues as Gemma Atkinson and Michelle Ryan have earned themselves a higher stock over in Great Britain but are equally desperate to make it big overseas as well and despite having a solid FCBA experience under their belt (especially in Atkinson's case) they have never broke through the hot looking journeywomen status. The Welterweight Revival offers a perfect opportunity to emerge as divisional contenders and well, most pundits think this will be the closest fought contest on the night and Gemma's outrageously exposed rack is destined to suffer a proper brunette punishment. Indeed, the JMD naysayers don't bet a dime on Atkinson lasting the distance but does Ryan have the strenght in her to destroy the biggest set of boobs on the Revival fight card as a jealous Nicola McLean looks on from the front row having been condemned to a reserve status all night long? Well, let's find out!
Gemma Atkinson wears a red bikini set with black trim and white gloves. Shoulder lenght blonde hair straight. Michelle Ryan wears a black bikini set and red gloves. Dark brown hair tied in a high ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.
Round 1:
Both girls struggle with hit & miss approach and it gets worse down the stretch as if the equal betting odds provided a mental block on both of them and removed any mean ideas being enforced this early into the fight. Some woeful clinching and wrestling follows in the most disappointing opening round of any of the tonight's four duells before Michelle finally picks the most obvious target on Gemma's attire and thumps her across the chest trying to reel her towards the ropes. However the blonde model shows superior strenght and spins the brunette back and presses her into the ropes herself, almost makes her tumble off the ring in questionable fashion which has more to do with WWE than SSB and the Las Vegas crowd doesn't really like this display either and jeers both vixens long before the bell already.
Round 2:
Michelle targets the blonde's rack again but after an early connection Gemma reverts into mid-range assault and tries to stay away from striking distance looping overhands from the back foot instead. Michelle has her eyes glued on the mounds for too long to realize she's letting her guard too low and Atkinson starts to score clean punches hand over fist in the second minute and when she tags the brunette's nose one time too many, Ryan has to drop her aggressive ideas and settle into an earmuff cover as she allows the blonde to overwhelm her in numbers. Gemma shows superior confidence and bats away at her foe's cheeks to slice the guard far too often and reel a rather cumbersome looking Ryan back to the ropes where she catches her on the nose with a couple of good punches before the round is over.
Round 3:
Gemma seeks another superior display but misses the hooking approach and has Michelle clattering into her jugs instead; heavy slaps from the brunette break the blonde's chest resilience but as she tries to protect her assets, Ryan slips for an overhand display and tags both temples with a riffling combo... Atkinson moans in pain but gets wrestled back towards the ropes before she can dish out punishment again and is thumped across the nose as Michelle keeps her trapped in precarious position and just lashes out in full swing landing more crisp jabs on the head. Gemma's high guard stays in tact for most of this assault but right at the death Ryan still finds a clubbing hook on the nose that makes the model yelp in pain again and signs off the round with a measured hook on the liver area. Atkinson spits out her mouthguard in frustration while sitting on her stool and piercing the brunette with a deadly look in her eyes.
Round 4:
Ryan squares up to the balloon chested blonde and rips an uppercut straight in the middle that bounces off the cleavage but more importantly nails Gemma on the chin to snap her head backwards in no time... it's not as good as the one that ended Katharine McPhee's semi-final hopes but still reels the English model back and unable to provide cover for a subsequent barrage of puches that send her rocking back to the ropes with Ryan inflicting heavy bruises on both cheeks to underline her dominance. Gemma shrieks out in disarray but fails to keep her arms in tact and Michelle just drills through all the holes and snaps the blonde's head back repeatedly in the final minute sagging her on jelly knees come the bell and leaving one swollen faced glamour model who just stumbles over to her corner and sports a hollow look in her eyes. Ryan pumps herself across the chest instead and refuses to sit down during the interval; there's every chance she's gonna send Atkinson packing in the next round already!
Round 5:
Gemma looks very much the worse to wear but seems proud her jugs didn't take the most pounding even though her face indicates that Ryan showed her no sympathy whatsoever... indeed the brunette jumps into another high jabbing frenzy and tries to take full advantage of Atkinson's leaky guard, she smacks the mitts aside but misses the uppercut hook as Gemma leans on her and sends a ribcage assault herself in almost last-ditch fashion, Michelle bounces off the blonde's mounds but with no real strenght behind her shot and gets creamed across the mouth moments later to wobble back away from close range... both girls jump into immediate recovery but it's Atkinson who harpoons the solar plexus first and has the brunette scowling in pain and bending forward for a crisp uppercut on the jaw... DOWN GOES RYAN... the runaway leader gets whipped on her back with a heavy shot that leaves her legs shooting up in the air as she tumbles down in lightning quick fashion... that really gets the crowd going and Ryan is genuinely shocked over the knockdown but still beats the count relatively handily at seven... Gemma scowls at her full of vengence and both women tangle in the middle of the ring late in the going again however there's too much mean intentions rather than cold blooded accuracy and the round concludes with a desperate wrestling struggle along the ropes.
Round 6:
Michelle seeks another switch on the cleavage but gets whacked by a looping hook on the temple as she closes in on the blonde before eating another uppercut on the jaw which exposes her wobbly guard... Gemma powers ahead with frantic jabbing on the face but slips by for a ribcage assault to prevent the brunette clinching her... Michelle starts to gasp for some extra air and loses her accuracy alltogether, skims off the forearms and guard for most of the round but instead of breaking free, she remains in close range exchanges and gets pounded back to the ropes in the final minute as a result and has to protect her guts as Gemma shuts her off up high with superior breast pressing and keeps drilling the ribcage... Michelle sags on the blonde's shoulder and just doesn't have the strenght in her to shake her off and gets pounded into her eyes closing in visible pain as Gemma almost chops her in half and leaves hugging her ribcage after the bell.
Round 7:
Michelle's tank seems to be drying up quickly as she struggles to recover from that knockdown and all the midriff punishment that followed; she still hoofs Gemma's mounds aside in an early tangle but there's a visible lack of JMD knowledge whereas Atkinson's too experienced with other women trying to render her flat chested and just powers ahead with an uppercut combo that shatters the brunette's guard and tags her on the chin again... Ryan's arms drop low and she more or less just wobbles back to the ropes with a loud scowl. She tries to push herself off the ropes into another attack but basically walks into a looping hook on the eye that dumps her onto the ropes again with eyes closed; Gemma jumps into point blank range assault and buries a left hand into Michelle's ear before knocking her out to the orbit with a right hook on the nose... Ryan's resistance gives up the ghost and the BRUNETTE CRASHES ONTO HER KNEES before just rolling to her side with eyes closed and it's another premature end to a fighter that looked so good at the start of the night... KO7 Gemma Atkinson!!!
AFTER: Gemma showed improved punching resistance tonight but Michelle simply didn't have the stamina required in the latter half of the fight and must regret letting the blonde off the hook early plus she looked the inferior of the two in core strenght behind her punches. Atkinson was long maligned in the American media about her jobber crazy looks but you can't buy yourself a boost of confidence any day of the week and this victory should help the buxom blonde mentally more than anything else. Because she will be the underdog in the semi-final contest against Megan Gale according to most of the fans and experts.
Meanwhile the wild card affair between Katharine McPhee and Michelle Ryan is destined to become a real coin-flipper since both girls showed lack of proper welter punch and even if McPhee eventually folded thanks to a single shot on the jaw, she was paired against a better opponent in the first round than Ryan. And that could become the all important difference in a fortnight's time.
Final result: Gemma Atkinson def. Michelle Ryan KO7.
