THE WELTERWEIGHT REVIVAL

SEMI-FINAL FIGHT #1

Posted by Lookout! Boxing & Vassago on April 19, 2015, 9:42 am

BEFORE: Sarah Lancaster barely outlasted Karen Gillan in the opening round leaving the door wide open to question her durability and Welterweight Revival fitness preparation which couldn't result in any sharper contrast to Paula Patton's stakes who knocked out Jodi Lyn O'Keefe in straight-forward fashion and emerged as the biggest favorite for the overall win according to Tractrorpull Magazine. Even Sarah's past glory at the expense of Amanda Righetti brings nothing to the table since Patton has also defeated the divisional legend before and settled as one of the most demanding fighters to beat regardless of Lancaster's punching power. Most of the Las Vegas audience doesn't believe Sarah can repeat the ten rounds heroics again and the fight can finish very quickly especially if Paula would like to send a warning message to the other two semi-finalists where Megan Gale is heavily favored to beat Gemma Atkinson.

Sarah Lancaster wears a black bikini set and white gloves. Paula Patton wears an orange bandeau bikini and black gloves. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.

Round 1:
Sarah storms out of her stool and crashes a jabbing combo into Paula's face seconds into the fight before switching low and making early gut contact as well. This ultra aggressive start was expected from her and even though Patton must have been aware of this, she just can't live with the heat and gets pounded back on her heels as Sarah just drills her breadbasket and clips the breasts in a frantic effort to dominate the higher rated opponent. Patton's response skims off the cheeks and there's no real strenght behind these shots whereas Lancaster keeps thumping away at the body and finally nails Paula on the jaw to send her butt-in-ropes in the final minute... Patton is forced into a desperate earmuff cover and fails to make her weak single punches count as Sarah rips into her guts and takes the opening round in truly commanding fashion!

Round 2:
Lancaster tries the pacey approach but swings wide off the mark as Patton ducks underneath and slams her best punches of the night straight between the fellow brunette's jugs to wobble her to the side and crush her guard with a piercing uppercut on the jaw. Sarah scowls in a sudden moment of discomfort but gets quickly moved around the ring when Paula jumps into a jabbing frenzy of her own and just repays the favor... she snaps Lancaster's head back a couple of times and fends off a jabbing rally from the back foot to dig her left glove into the ribcage and make Sarah squeal in pain again. More aggressive punching from Patton follows and Sarah has to clinch her to catch some respite, however she gets shoved into the corner and has little answer to Paula thumping her ribs in vicious fashion as both women are seemingly very keen to end this fight as early as possible!

Round 3:
Close range exchange has both women trying to knock the other's head off and Paula comes off the worst as she nurses a fat lip on the minute mark after Lancaster pierced her guard with more clean punches and escaped having her nose squashed instead. Patton has to yield real estate and wobbles badly under a swift follow up as Sarah acknowledges superiority and leans on her with more aggressive jabs in close range. Head snapping galore sends Patton into a moaning struggle along the ropes and as she keeps swinging just above Sarah's head, she gets pinned to the turnbuckle when Lancaster settles into drilling her guts again to take the steam right out of the older actress and make her soak up solid midriff punishment that seems to be more effective than the fat lip she inflicted on Patton in the opening minute.

Round 4:
Lancaster keeps defying the odds and assumes another close range superiority now punishing Patton's guts at will and switching into piercing uppercuts down the stretch to snap the older woman's head back and inflict more yelping struggle. Paula almost has to revert into a haymaker pursuit already but she finally nails the rampant fellow brunette with a clubbing hook on the brow ridge followed by a left overhand on the nose. Sarah gasps for air and wobbles badly for the first time in a while and Paula thumps unanswered jabbing combo on the mouth to push her back to center of the ring and salvage more pride thereafter. Another close range dust up has Lancaster's head rocking and the former divisional champ has to seek respite but gets whacked on the ribs and eats a later flurry of punches on the cheeks to sink really deep on her knees at the bell with Patton clawing back the round in impressive fashion. She gives Sarah a really long look before turning back to her corner and the Las Vegas audience believes the REAL action is only about to start now!

Round 5:
Patton seeks another close range tangle and targets the fellow brunette's midsection but drops her arms a bit too low after a fruitless pursuit and GETS WRENCHED by a massive left overhand on the ear that renders her all woozy just twenty seconds into the round... she makes a desperate effort to stay upright but then Lancaster sends a drilling hook on the nose AND PATTON'S LEGS GIVES WAY... a thundering noise of Paula crashing hard on her back lifts the roof off Caesars Palace and it's another upset on the cards as the heavy favorite looks to be exiting stage left after a mammoth combo caught her cold... Patton tries so hard to beat the count she almost goes down on her face twice but somehow makes it back upright at nine... she's still hollow in the eyes but ref refuses to stop the fight in such a shocking manner... but that only gets Lancaster mad as a hatter... she ignores the mercy plea from the front seats and CRUSHES PATTON'S FACE with a riffling series that sends the older actress into dummy mode on the ropes simply unable to defend herself anymore... Sarah wants to knock Paula's head clean off by the looks of it and that's too much for Patton's self esteem... the odds-on favorite breaks down in tears and begs for mercy as Sarah rocks her with a left hand almost throwing her out of the ring alltogether.. "I'm done.... I'm done...", Patton turns her back to the raging opponent and leans against the ropes as ref finally has to step in and haul Lancaster off her battered prey.... Shocking TKO5 Sarah Lancaster!!!

AFTER: That's a huge upset with Sarah Lancaster making it onto the Revival final simply thumping the daylights out of the heavily favored Paula Patton! The brutal nature of this stoppage even outweights the actual result as nobody expected such a statement making performance from the 35 year old actress. Just how good Karen Gillan looked in her own defeat then?

Sarah is overwhelmed by this success, she had nothing in the tank to celebrate the Gillan victory before and now looks genuinely stunned just as most of the crowd and stares at the sobbing Patton breathing very heavily herself. Her fitness remains a valid talking point but when you pummel the other girl into a smoking mess before half-distance you can get away with anything out there! At least Lancaster is aware she will be up against it again if Megan Gale manages to beat Gemma Atkinson in the other semi-final and doesn't allow this result to get to her while most of the post-fight activities focus on escorting a mentally as well as physically shattered Patton back to the locker room. This outcome has truly defied everyone's odds and threw the competition wide open again! Just imagine if Megan Gale fails to live up to the Floydian expectations now!

Final result: Sarah Lancaster def. Paula Patton TKO5.
