RACHEL NICHOLS VS MISSY PEREGRYM
(Foxfire Boxing vs Lookout Boxing)
Results: Lookout Writing: Archer

Before: “Rachel has been a thorn in my side since I lost to her twice in 2013,” Missy Peregrym tells the press. “I mean, I have beaten so many Foxfire girls: Rachel McAdams, Laura Vandervoort, Mary Elizabeth Winstead—okay, so Jen Garner knocked me out—and now that’s she's been seen back in the ring maybe I’ll do something about that. However Rachel Nichols is my target this time and there is no way I lose to her THREE times in a row!”

The usual cheerful Missy seems more than a little intense in that last remark. Rachel Nichols just smiles and saunters to the podium.

“I realize that it is extremely difficult to beat a fighter of Missy’s quality twice in a row, let alone three times, but it can be done—and it will be done-- by me,” Rachel Nichols says. “Missy is just going to have to learn to live with that.”

Missy comes to the ring in a sky blue sports bra and tight navy blue shorts. Sky blue boots and gloves with dark laces. Hair with bound in a ponytail with a sky blue bow. Rachel in an aquamarine bikini with matching gloves and boots. Dark hair in long battle braid.  Preliminaries are brisk and to the point, these two veterans are saving their energy for the fight.

R1: Last time out, Missy got knocked out by Rachel in the first round, so it’s not surprising that she is cautious this time out. Rachel more than happy be the aggressor as she pops Missy with long-armed rights and lefts to the head and body. Rachel doing a pretty good job of finding openings to knock Missy’s head around and then pulling back to evade Missy’s counters. Rachel not having it all her own way as Missy seems to tire of merely being the target and stepping forward to tap Rachel’s chin a flicking right cross followed by a equally quick left hook. Rachel moving to forward  in response goes mainly to the body, but catches Missy with a solid uppercut late in the round. Missy retreats on quaking legs and Rachel pursues, but is unable to really corner her by the time the bell rings. Still. Rachel has the opening round in her column.

R2: Missy bolder this time, dueling Rachel at mid ring trying to seize the offensive in this round. Vigorous exchange of punches in close where Missy’s strong arms are driving her leather into Rachel’s lanky body. Rachel not landing quality punches at this range and she has to cope with Missy’s beef driving into her guts. Rachel finally pulling back to get her jab fully functioning, but though it keeps Missy moving and evading, she’s not scoring many points. Missy driving Rachel back late to salt away her first round of the night.

R3: Missy clearly encouraged by her offensive efforts last round goes right at Rachel from the bell and seems intent on driving the Foxfire fighter to the ropes. Rachel fighting fiercely to maintain her position, using the jab to strike Missy along side the head, straight into the face and some into the chest area for variety Missy doing her best to grind her way in close and she is doing a lot of work on Rachel’s torso this round mainly with short muscular hooks. Finally, Missy able to drive some straight rights and lefts between Rachel’s gloves and get hard leather on Nichols’ face. Rachel backpedals as she takes shots to both eyes, mouth and nose plus a noggin knocker to the forehead. Rachel hunched over, crouching behind her gloves is able to protect herself to the bell, but it’s another round for Missy Peregrym.

R4: Rachel not letting Missy get so close this round, moving backwards and using her long arms to strike at Missy when she pursues. Missy works hard to try to cut off the ring and drive Rachel to the ropes. Unfortunately, Rachel just too nimble this round and Missy is getting frustrated. (Lookout fans loyally boo Rachel’s tactics, but Rachel just keeps doing what works). As the clock is reaching the third minute, Rachel suddenly darts forward and cracks a powerhouse right off Missy’s exposed jaw. DOWN GOES MISSY PEREGRYM! Missy on all four lifting her head up with a “What happened?” expression on her face. Missy tries to stay calm as the ref starts his count and is up at 9. Rachel waved back in, but Missy’s not about to get careless again. She jabs and backs way not giving Rachel another opportunity to the bell, but Rachel’s won this round with that knockdown.

R5: Rachel on the attack very quickly this round, sending lancing hooks to Missy’s body that leave her hunched up and defensive. Then Rachel swings away to the head, bouncing her rights and lefts off Missy’s head as she tries to shelter behind her gloves. Missy takes a while to get her jab going and even then Rachel is moving her head and body enough to avoid serious damage from the counters. Rachel backing Missy up nearly the whole round, though she can’t quite pin her to the ropes. Rachel settles for a wide win on points.

R6: Rachel Nichols ups the pressure on Missy Peregrym this round with a relentless attack from the opening bell. Missy finds her attempts at countering being knocked aside by Rachel whose long-armed punches are feasting on body in a methodical bombardment. Head, body, ribs, all come under attack by Rachel and Missy starts looking flustered. Things get worse for the Lookout fighter as she is driven back to the ropes and has to give up her body to Rachel’s punches as she buries her face in her gloves. Rachel shifting around, trying to find the place to land a knockdown punch, but Missy finally thinks to starts clinching. Rachel’s attack disrupted, but she winds up winning the round in shutout.

R7: Missy seen getting a stern lecture from her corner during the break. Rachel has swept the last three rounds, she’s reminded and told “don’t let her win another!” Of course, that’s easy for a trainer to say as Missy finds out when Rachel comes rolling towards her once again. This time Missy gets her jab working early and this takes the steam out of Rachel’s offensive. Rachel not pleased with the show of resistance, steps back, regroups and plunges back in. She’s trying to work her hooks into Missy’s midsection. Missy taking the leather, but sees an opening as Rachel’s attack makes her chin suddenly available. Missy pumps short right uppercut into the chin. Rachel caught flush totters backwards and lands on her butt with a crash! Rachel sitting there shaking her head as the referee starts his count. Rachel up at 8 and tries to go after Missy, but takes a quick right to the cheekbone that makes her reconsider. Rachel on the defensive to the bell as Missy takes the round.

R8: Now it is Missy’s turn to launch a relentless attack from the outset. Rachel gets head bounced around by sweeping Missy’s rights and lefts. Rachel covering up face in gloves and trying to steady herself. Missy not about to let Rachel pull herself together. She hounds Rachel to the ropes. Rachel using clinches to break up Missy’s tempo, but she’s not doing much counter punching  even as she makes it to the bell. No surprise this goes down as a shutout round for Missy P.

R9: Rachel is slow off her stool, but she has good jab going when Missy comes back at her. Missy tries circling and looking for openings, but Rachel keeping up with her, showing some good counters. Rachel feels confident enough to go on the attack herself, trying to drive her straight shots between Missy’s gloves. Missy sends her own straight rights and lefts back and slides in over Rachel’s gloves. Punch catches Rachel between the eyes and stuns her. Missy swiftly follows with short muscular uppercuts to Rachel’s chin. Rachel goes reeling back, arms flailing. Missy drives a right hook into Rachel’s belly doubling her up and then crashing a left into her temple. Rachel crashes to her knees and falls over on her side. Missy retreats to the neutral corner, watching with interest as the Rachel tries to rise as the referee counts. Rachel makes it to her knees, but can’t get any further as the referee reaches “…TEN!”

Missy raises her arms in a triumph as her fans cheer her triumph. Rachel helped to her feet by the referee, turns away from the sight of Missy victorious and walks to her own corner.

After: “I guess it’s true ‘The Third Time’s the Charm’!” Missy  happily tells the press. “I have to admit she scared me with that 4th Round knockdown. It was like that KO1 all over again, but I made myself beat the count. No way would I let her knock me out again! I came back and I out her on her knees. That was a very satisfying sight for me.  I’m sure you’ll all understand why.,”

“She beat me. I can’t deny that,” says an unhappy Rachel Nichols. “I almost had her—more than once, but I just couldn’t keep her down long enough. That’s something I need to work on. As for what comes next, I will just put this behind me and move on—but I just want to add this is not over between Missy Peregrym and me.”

(Asked to comment later, Missy says: “Of course we’re not over. I’ve got to beat her at least two more times to go ahead in our series and prove I am the superior fighter.”:

The fans got their money’s worth with this class of veteran lightweight rivals. Plenty of back and forth action ending in a knockout. There seems little doubt this rivalry will continue even if the two fighters find other top quality lightweight opponents in the near future.
